Colorado sees weekend cooldown before heat returns
The sky is a bit smoky on Saturday morning, and that will stick around for most of the day. This afternoon, there is a chance for storms across the metro area and eastern plains. The mountains saw rain early Saturday, and that could continue for the day.
We are watching the storms closely this afternoon, as a few could turn severe. The biggest threat is on the eastern plains.
The "cooler" weather does not stick around. A ridge of high pressure brings our temperatures back into the upper 90s for the work week.

Clouds and showers return to Maryland by mid-week
It's a beautiful afternoon across Maryland, with just a few clouds, temperatures in the mid-80s, and comfortable low humidity. It's a perfect day to enjoy the sunshine, because changes are on the way — thick clouds are set to return Tuesday and linger through midweek. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 50s to mid-60s tonight, just a bit warmer than recent nights due to increased high-level cloud cover. That cloud cover will signal the beginning of a more unsettled stretch. Onshore flow will strengthen Wednesday night into Thursday as high pressure settles over New England and low pressure develops off the East Coast. This will usher in cooler, cloudier, and more humid conditions for much of Maryland. Low clouds and periods of light rain are likely during this stretch, although the timing remains uncertain. Some weather models show light rain beginning as early as Tuesday morning, while others delay it until Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures on Wednesday will likely struggle to reach 80 degrees, a noticeable drop from today's warmth, with persistent easterly winds keeping skies overcast. From Thursday through the weekend, the below-average temperature trend will continue. Highs will range from the upper 70s to mid-80s, with lows in the 60s. While much of this period should stay dry, a stray afternoon shower or thunderstorm can't be completely ruled out. This pattern will give Maryland a taste of early September, offering a break from the heat and humidity of midsummer.

McNair High in Stockton flooded by water main break, students shift to remote learning
A Stockton-area school is shifting to remote learning for the day after a water main broke and caused flooding on campus. The Lodi Unified School District announced Monday that McNair High School will be on remote learning for the day due to the situation. "Students will need to log onto their Google Classroom during their class periods. Students on campus will be going home," the district said in a statement. Video from the scene shows significant flooding in one of McNair's buildings. It appears several classrooms are impacted. Workers are trying to mitigate the damage. It's unclear how the water main broke and how long the school will be in remote learning. Lodi Unified schools only just returned from summer break last Tuesday.

SpaceX lifts 28 Starlink satellites in landmark reusable booster mission
Aug. 4 (UPI) -- SpaceX launched dozens of new Starlink satellites into orbit overnight after initial delays over weather in the company's 69th liftoff this year. The Starlink 10-30 mission saw liftoff at 3:57 a.m. EDT from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida after its original 2:01 a.m. time slot had to be changed due to persistent storms. The Falcon 9 and its joint Falcon Heavy rocket carried 28 Starlink satellites to its growing constellation of Internet-ready satellite devices. But it marked a milestones for SpaceX with the 450th launch of its flight-proven booster 1080, which flew for its 21st time. Initially there was an 85% chance for favorable weather in the forecast, according to the 45th Weather Squadron. But strong thunderstorms via a low-pressure system hung over the region and temporarily delayed the launch as Tropical Storm Dexter gains strength. A little over 8 minutes after liftoff the B1080 landed on SpaceX's drone ship "Just Read the Instructions" in the Atlantic Ocean in the 131st landing on the drone ship vessel. So far this year SpaceX has launched over 1,650 Starlink satellites in the Elon Musk-run company's bid to expand global Internet access.
