At a time when most would chase promotions and perks in glass towers, Abhishek Kumar did the unthinkable. An IIT Kanpur graduate with an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad , and then a Vice President at Goldman Sachs , he quit his high-profile job to shadow security guards in gated societies. Not for a documentary, not as a social experiment—but to build something that would redefine urban community living in India . That idea became MyGate Abhishek's journey began at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, one of India's most prestigious schools. He then went on to pursue a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, followed by an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Armed with a world-class education, he entered the finance world and spent six years at Goldman Sachs, eventually rising to the position of Vice President. But the boardroom didn't satiate his long-term purpose.Abhishek's drastic shift wasn't impulsive—it was sparked by a vision shared by Vijay Arisetty , a Shaurya Chakra awardee , former Indian Air Force pilot, and alumnus of NDA and ISB. In 2016, Arisetty foresaw the rise of smart community living and the pressing need for secure, connected, and digitized residential societies. Alongside him were Abhishek Kumar and Shreyans Daga, an IIT Guwahati and ISB alumnus.In one of his LinkedIn posts , he wrote that 9 years back, he was shadowing the security guards for several weeks to gain more insights for their app. He decided to step into the shoes again and did a full 12 hours shift of a guard from 8 am to 8 pm for a day.The trio—each from a vastly different background—came together to co-found Bengaluru-based app, MyGate, a community management app that today handles over 720,000 requests every minute and has processed more than 6 billion entries across India. Its mission? To enhance daily living with security, convenience, and connection.While some startup founders skim user data for insights, Abhishek went boots-on-the-ground. He spent months observing and speaking with security guards, understanding the operational gaps. What began as a digital gatekeeping solution quickly expanded into an ecosystem, helping residents discover local services, purchase property, and even file society tickets, of which over 6 million have been resolved through the platform.According to Tracxn, Vijay Arisetty, together with Daga and Kumar, the trio built MyGate into a Rs 1,670 crore powerhouse, transforming how Indians experience community living.

Relaxed emission norms for thermal generation to reduce power costs
AI image NEW DELHI: The mandatory retrofitting of coal-fired generation plants with mechanisms to reduce sulphur emission will apply to only units within 10 km of cities with population exceeding 10 lakh instead of all power stations under a 2015 mandate. The revised policy, notified on Saturday, is expected to reduce the cost of power by 25-30 paise per unit, officials and experts involved in the revision of the earlier mandate for installation of FGD (flue gas desulphurisation) units at all power plants said. The new norm lets off the hook 79% of the country's thermal generation capacity, a fact that environmental activists have used to criticise the revision. But officials argued that the 'evidence-based recalibration' makes the policy 'focused, efficient and climate-conscious." For example, they said, under the revised policy, new plants in critically polluted areas or non-attainment cities will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis instead of an omnibus application that would push up the cost of power. The notification justified the revision, saying it is in line with the analysis by the Central Pollution Control Board, which found increased carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the operation of existing control measures. Additionally, studies by IIT-Delhi, CSIR-NEERI and the National Institute of Advanced Studies put ambient sulphur dioxide levels in most parts of the country within the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Power producers have been opposing the blanket FGD mandate for all plants due to the high cost involved. Industry estimates put the cost of installing FGDs at all power plants at Rs 2.5 lakh crore, or Rs 1.2 crore per megawatt. This, industry representatives had said, would jack up tariff for consumers. Additionally, the average timeline of 45 days for each unit was also cited as a threat to grid stability during peak seasons. Differentiated compliance based on proximity to urban populations and the sulphur content of the coal used will ease the burden on power producers, industry executives said. Indian coal typically has a sulphur content of less than 0.5% and due to high stack heights and favourable meteorological conditions, dispersion of SO2 is efficient. Measurements across multiple cities showed sulphur oxide levels ranging between 3 and 20 micrograms per cubic meter, significantly below the NAAQS threshold of 80 micrograms per cubic meter. The officials said studies had also questioned the environmental and economic efficacy of a universal FGD mandate in the Indian context. 60L boost for shopping complex at Thycaud market
Thiruvananthapuram: The long-awaited Thycaud market shopping complex is one step closer to completion with mayor Arya Rajendran approving Rs 60 lakh from the corporation's own funds. The fund allocation comes as the shopping complex, being developed by the city corporation at a cost of nearly Rs 1 crore, nears the final stages of construction. The project, located in the heart of Thycaud, is envisioned as a major infrastructure boost for the local community. The building's ground floor is fully dedicated to market facilities. Electrical work in the building has commenced. The newly sanctioned Rs 60 lakh will be utilised for essential final-stage construction works. These include compound wall construction, flooring, roofing, drainage systems and an underground pipeline to manage stormwater flow. Administrative approval for these components was granted as part of mayor's commitment to expedite public utility projects. Give land voluntarily for Shaktipeeth, get 25% bonus, says Kshirsagar
Kolhapur: Farmers who voluntarily give up their land for the Shaktipeeth expressway will receive an additional bonus of 25% of the land price, said state planning commission chairman Rajesh Kshirsagar on Saturday evening in Kolhapur. He said farmers will receive two-and-a-half times the land cost, and district collectors will be given the authority to fix the price. Approximately 46,000 hectares of land will be acquired for the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth expressway. In Kolhapur district alone, 5,300 acres will be acquired. "We met officials of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the implementing authority for the Shaktipeeth expressway, a couple of days ago. The panel under the district collector will be set up to find a mean of the ready reckoner and market price of the land to compensate the farmers. The base price will be two-and-a-half times the mean cost, and above that, the farmer will receive an additional 25% as a reward for voluntarily giving up their land. Recently, the state cabinet approved Rs 11,700 crore for land acquisition in 12 districts. Also, the road width would not exceed 110 metres. "The actual cost of construction is around Rs 51,000 crore. The rest is the interest on the loans, environmental compensation, and land acquisition, which in total takes the project cost to Rs 86,000 crore," added the MLA. Meanwhile, the anti-Shaktipeeth expressway forum challenged anyone supporting the highway to show that their land was in the way of the highway after Kshirsagar claimed that 35 farmers have submitted their 7/12 extracts for land acquisition. Raju Shetti, of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, said, "The MLA took 35 people with him to show support for the road project. Some of these people don't have land that will be affected by the project. There are more than 10,000 farmers who will be affected by the project, and showing support from a mere 35 farmers is a clear failure on the part of govt and those supporting the destructive project."
