The First Night With The Duke ending explained: Did Seon-chaek and Yi Beon's finale deliver closure - or open the door to season 2?

The First Night With The Duke ending explained: The First Night with the Duke came to a close on July 17, 2025, with the release of its final two episodes, 11 and 12, bringing Lee Beon and Cha Seon-chaek's love story to a heartfelt conclusion. The fantasy romance began with a twist of fate, as an ordinary college student wakes up reincarnated in a romance novel - not as the heroine, but as a side character - only to unexpectedly spend the night with the novel's dangerously obsessive duke, setting off a whirlwind of drama and desire. What is The First Night With The Duke about? Cha Sun-chaek, a present-day student, suddenly awakens inside her favorite medieval romance novel - reborn as the noblewoman Cha Seon-chaek. After a chance meeting with the story's intense male lead, Prince Yi Beon, she accidentally derails the original plot. In an effort to restore the narrative, she tries to steer him toward the novel's true heroine. But as events unfold, Yi Beon's feelings begin to drift from the scripted romance, drawing him irresistibly toward Cha Seon-chaek instead. (Spoilers ahead, you know what to do) The First Night With The Duke ending explained Is Yi Beon dead? Seon-chaek begins her new life as Yi Beon's wife in Hoseondang, but their bliss is short-lived as he leaves for war. While she clings to memories of him, the palace becomes tense; Yi Gyu is urging the sick King to abdicate and plans his rise to power. News soon arrives from the Chinese border: Yi Beon and his unit have been ambushed. His headpiece and a handkerchief she once gave him are returned, confirming his presumed death. Refusing to believe it, Seon-chaek embarks on a quest to find him. Meanwhile, Yi Gyu seizes the opportunity to propose marriage to Seon-chaek, seeking to consolidate his power. She rejects him directly, convinced that Yi Beon is still alive. As tensions rise, Seon-chaek - known as Miss K in the modern world - touches a curious object and passes out. The relic reveals the truth: the two ladies switched lives in different realities. The episode's climax sees Yi Gyu apprehend Seon-chaek and her family, threatening execution. Yi Beon is also in danger of being killed by the Barbarians. Time freezes just when it appears that all hope is lost. Miss K awakens and rewrites the story, changing its direction. In a dramatic twist, Yi Beon reappears, saving Seon-chaek in the closing seconds and altering their destiny. Are Yi Gyu's crimes finally exposed? Episode 12 opens with Yi Beon taking swift action against the Heuksa Clan and their royal court allies. Arrests follow as the conspiracy unravels. The King, weakened by poisonous incense, finally awakens and is stunned to see Yi Beon alive. Overcome with guilt, he apologizes for the exile of Yi Beon's family and acknowledges his mistakes. Eun-ae is arrested for her role, and Yi Gyu's supporters begin to confess. Yi Gyu, unrepentant, is exiled. Soon after, reports claim his ship sank during a storm - though no body is found, leaving his fate uncertain. Before their wedding, Seon-chaek tells Yi Beon that they are characters in a fictional story. Despite his confusion, he decides to believe her, claiming he would still love her in any situation. The pair marries, capping off their trip on a loving and hopeful note. What happend to K and is there a Season 2? In the present day, K, a college student, discovers the novel has come to a conclusion. Just as she is processing the conclusion, an unexpected notification alludes at a sequel to The Obsessive Tyrant, implying that a new story may be on the way. In the imaginary universe, years have passed. Seon-chaek and Yi Beon are now proud parents of six children, leading a tranquil and contented life. Eun-ae and Soo-gyeom, who were once enmeshed in betrayal and sorrow, find peace and begin again. In a symbolic ending, K throws the enchanted figurine into the water, while Seon-chaek places it in a box, each representing the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next. While The First Night with the Duke wraps up with resolution and closure - villains punished, love fulfilled, and the magical figurine tucked away - is there a need for a sequel? The mysterious alert K receives about The Obsessive Tyrant sequel hints that a new arc may be in development. Season 2 could explore life of the couple after marriage, or take a different turn - possibly involving a fresh storyline from the real world. Yi Gyu's fate also remains uncertain. Though presumed dead, his vow to return lingers, opening the door for a dramatic comeback. However, as of writing this, there's no official confirmation yet, but the ending could leave space for The First Night with the Duke to return. Made In Just Rs 7 Crore, This Tamil Film Beat ‘Chhava' To Become 2025's Top Earner Yet

The year 2025 was, by most accounts, a lacklustre one for the box office. Despite high expectations and several big-budget releases, the majority of films failed to resonate with audiences or recover their production costs. A few titles managed to break through and achieve commercial success, with Chhava emerging as the highest-grossing film of the year. However, it was not Chhava that stole the spotlight in terms of profitability and impact; it was an unassuming Tamil film that quietly rewrote the rules of box office success. Tourist Family, a slice-of-life comedy drama directed by Abhishan Jeevith, turned out to be 2025's most profitable film so far, defying all industry predictions. Produced on a modest budget of just Rs 7 crore, the film delivered a staggering 1200% return on investment; a feat rarely seen, even in Indian cinema's regional circuits. What started as a small release quickly gained momentum thanks to overwhelmingly positive word of mouth and critical appreciation. The film stars Mithun Jai Shankar, Kamalesh Jagan, and M Shashikumar, along with a talented supporting cast. Released in cinemas on April 29, 2025, Tourist Family opened to encouraging box office numbers, collecting Rs 23 crore in its first week alone. Far from slowing down, its popularity continued to grow over the following weeks. The film eventually grossed Rs 62 crore across India and a remarkable Rs 90 crore globally. Its relatable storyline, humour, and emotional depth struck a chord with audiences of all ages, helping it become the year's biggest financial success story. In contrast, Chhava, despite being the highest-grossing film with a collection of Rs 808 crore and a production budget of Rs 90 crore, recorded a profit margin of 800 percent. Impressive by any standard, yet it paled next to the unexpected windfall generated by Tourist Family. Other high-profile releases in 2025 didn't fare nearly as well. Housefull 5, saddled with an enormous budget, earned Rs 300 crore but failed to produce substantial profit. Salman Khan's Sikandar underperformed relative to expectations, and Aamir Khan's much-anticipated Sitare Zameen Par, with a production cost of Rs 65 crore, managed Rs 260 crore in global earnings, delivering a 300 percent profit. While 2025 might not be remembered for its cinematic brilliance, it will certainly be marked as the year a modest Tamil film proved that strong storytelling and audience connection can outperform even the grandest of productions. Tourist Family has not only redefined box office success but also reinforced the potential of regional cinema in India's ever-evolving film industry.
