A SpiceJet flight heading to Mumbai from Delhi was significantly delayed on Monday after 'unruly passengers attempted to forcefully approach the cockpit while the aircraft was taxiing', leading to an alleged disruption.
Two passengers were offloaded from SpiceJet flight SG 9282 bound for Mumbai at Delhi airport after they allegedly caused the disruption, according to the airline.
Yachna Nair, one of the passengers who was deboarded, said the issue was a delay in starting the air conditioning of the flight. 'Since 4.50 pm they started promising us that they will start the AC, but didn't do so. I am on medication and was feeling very hot and anxious,' Nair, 55, said.
'After a lot of requests, they were not starting the AC. So my daughter went to talk to the cabin crew, but I don't know why they singled us out,' she said.
Her daughter Alika Nair is the second passenger who was deboarded.
'On July 14, 2025, two unruly passengers were offloaded from SpiceJet flight SG 9282 operating from Delhi to Mumbai. The two attempted to forcefully approach the cockpit and caused a disruption while the aircraft was taxiing,' a Spicejet spokesperson said in a statement.
'Despite repeated instructions and requests by the cabin crew, fellow passengers, and the flight's Captain, the two individuals refused to return to their seats, prompting serious concerns about the safety and security of all onboard,' the spokesperson added.
'In the interest of the safety of all passengers and crew, the Captain decided to return the aircraft to the bay, and the passengers were offloaded. They were subsequently handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF),' the spokesperson further said.
According to air traffic tracking platform Flightradar24, the flight was significantly delayed. The aircraft was supposed to take off at 12.30 pm and land in Mumbai at 2.55 pm. The flight eventually took off at 7.21 pm and landed at 9.05 pm.
According to Yachna Nair, the passengers were seated on the flight by around 4.45 pm and the incident occurred just before 6 pm.
'The CISF's role is limited to handing over the unruly passenger to the Delhi Police, and it is the airline's decision on how to pursue the matter,' a CISF spokesperson said about the incident.

NSG leads hijack & terror-attack drills at airport

Kolkata: A dramatic hijack of an aircraft, tense negotiations, and finally, the storming of the aircraft by National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, followed by a terror attack on the Airports Authority of India office at the Kolkata airport and a counterstrike by NSG to neutralise the terrorists, were played out at the airport over seven hours. This began on Saturday night and ended in the early hours of Sunday. The real-life scenario, with an actual Airbus A320 aircraft, flight crew, and 75 'dummy' passengers and hijackers, was enacted with seriousness. CISF and NSG personnel carried out a full-scale joint counter-hijack and counter-terrorist exercise, it was planned and coordinated with various airport stakeholders and security agencies to evaluate preparedness in the event of a security threat. The simulated hijack scenario was initiated when the Air Traffic Control received an emergency call from the 'hijacked' aircraft. CISF Quick Reaction Teams cordoned off the aircraft while officers from the Intelligence Bureau and the ministry of home affairs engaged in negotiations with the hijackers. When negotiations failed, the NSG Counter Hijack Task Force launched a coordinated operation to storm the aircraft. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like NYC Hotel Smartphone Booking | Bookmark Now! | New York City Hotel Booking | Mill Canyon Road Click Here Undo You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata Simultaneously, a counter-terrorist exercise was initiated simulating an armed terrorist attack on AAI offices, where 12 employees were taken hostage, and the building's power supply was disabled. NSG conducts counter-hijack exercise at Kolkata Airport

Kolkata: The National Security Guard (NSG) conducted a full-scale joint counter-hijack and counter-terrorist exercise at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI) in Kolkata. The exercise, conducted on the intervening night of July 18-19, was meticulously planned and coordinated with various airport stakeholders and security agencies to evaluate preparedness in the event of a complex security threat, said NSCBI sources. 'As part of the counter-hijack drill, a simulated hijack scenario involving an A320 aircraft with crew and 75 dummy passengers was initiated at 21.34 hours on July 18 when the air traffic control (ATC) received an emergency call from the 'hijacked' aircraft. The aerodrome committee was immediately convened, and the aircraft was positioned at the isolation bay for containment,' said an NSCBI insider. As part of the initial exercise, the quick response teams of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cordoned off the aircraft while officers from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) got engaged in negotiations with the hijackers to de-escalate the situation. 'Upon failure of negotiations, the NSG Counter Hijack Task Force (CHTF) launched a coordinated operation to storm the aircraft. The operation resulted in the successful 'rescue' of all dummy passengers and crew, and the 'elimination' of the simulated hijackers. This phase of the exercise concluded at 02.15 hours on July 19,' the NSCBI insider said. Simultaneously, he added, a counter-terrorist exercise was initiated at around 21.00 hours on July 18, simulating an armed terrorist attack on AAI operational offices, where 12 staff members were taken hostage, and the building's power supply was disabled. As part of that exercise, the Special Task Force (STF) commandos of West Bengal Police cordoned off the area and attempted entry but encountered heavy resistance and simulated casualties. 'Following the conclusion of the hijack scenario, the NSG Task Force was deployed to handle the hostage crisis. After a detailed briefing from the STF, the NSG team executed a coordinated tactical operation, neutralised six simulated terrorists, and successfully rescued all hostages. This operation concluded at 04.25 hours on July 19,' the NSCBI insider said.. According to him, those exercises were aimed at validating response mechanisms, inter-agency coordination, and crisis management protocols in high-stakes scenarios involving civil aviation security. The participation and coordination among AAI, CISF, ATC, Airlines, State Police, IB, MHA, and NSG ensured the overall success of the exercise.

Over 2,300 men fined for entering women-only coaches in Delhi Metro in 2024-25

NEW DELHI: More than 2,300 male passengers were fined for entering women-only coaches in the Delhi Metro during the fiscal year 2024–25, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Officials said 2,320 challans were issued under the Delhi Metro Railway Operation and Maintenance Act, each attracting a fine of `250. The highest number of violations were reported in May (443), followed by April (419) and September (397). Interestingly, only one offender was penalised in December 2024. In cases where violators are unable to pay the fine immediately, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) or DMRC flying squad personnel issue a warning and allow them to leave. 'These drives are conducted in close coordination with CISF teams stationed across the metro network,' a DMRC official said. To tackle the issue, DMRC has launched multiple awareness campaigns. These include regular announcements on platforms and inside trains, prominent signage indicating the location of women-only coaches, and social media posts on DMRC's official handles. Additionally, flying squads have been deployed to monitor such violations and take necessary action. 'Our aim is to ensure a safer and more respectful environment for female passengers. These checks and sensitisation drives will continue,' the official added. The Delhi Metro, with its 10 colour-coded lines and 257 stations, covers a network of nearly 395 km. Each train typically consists of six or eight coaches, with one reserved exclusively for women. Recently, a video went viral showing male passengers occupying the ladies' coach and refusing to leave despite repeated requests by female commuters, highlighting the ongoing challenge despite existing regulations.
