PORTSMOUTH, England, May 1 (Reuters) - - Champagne sprays and DJ decks will trade mountain peaks for ocean spray this summer as apres-ski pioneers La Folie Douce bring their high-altitude hedonism to Britain's premier sailing spectacle.
SailGP, taking place in Portsmouth on July 19–20, will mark its return to British shores with a new waterfront lounge where the party atmosphere of the French Alps meets high-octane sailing just metres from shore, organisers said on Thursday.
'SailGP is thrilled to team up with world-class hospitality brands such as La Folie Douce and celebrated chef Ollie Dabbous,' said SailGP Chief Marketing Officer Leah Davis. 'It promises to be an unforgettable apres-sail experience that fans will not want to miss.'
Founded in Val d'Isere in 1974 by Luc Reversade, La Folie Douce has expanded to eight locations across prestigious French ski resorts including Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens, becoming the definitive high-altitude party destination combining gourmet dining with theatrical performances and DJ sets.
Some 20,000 spectators are expected at SailGP's first appearance on British shores in three years, where they will witness 12 national teams racing F50 catamarans at speeds exceeding 100 km/h.

The Glasgow man has not played for Scotland since the 2023 Rugby World Cup due to a ruptured knee ligament. He is joined in the backline by winger Harry Paterson and centre Rory Hutchinson. Tyson Fury ready for comeback and targets Oleksandr Usyk rematch

Fury – who has recently posted footage of himself back in the gym with trainer SugarHill Steward – then followed up that announcement himself, speaking to Boxing News at an IBA Pro Event in Istanbul. The 'Gypsy King' will be back!!! I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026 … 🥊 We have a rabbit to hunt! 🐰🐇 — TURKI ALALSHIKH (@Turki_alalshikh) July 2, 2025 'Who would I rather fight right now? Usyk. I want my revenge in England, that's all I want,' Fury said. 'I want my fair shout, and I don't believe I got a fair shout the last two times. I don't know what I'm going to have to do, because I can't let it go to a decision. 'That's the one I want, but if I don't get that then it will be Joshua, the biggest British fight that will ever happen. 'It would break all records and it would sell out 100,000 at Wembley in an hour and it's a fight I think can happen, if I decide to come back and the deal was right.' Usyk will become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion should he defeat Daniel Dubois, the IBF heavyweight world champion, at Wembley later this month. Tyson Fury, right, said he wants a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk following his loss in December (Nick Potts/PA) Fury appeared to dismiss the prospect of taking on Dubois. 'If I did come back, hypothetically speaking, if I was to return and box Daniel Dubois, he wouldn't land a glove on me, it would be a one-sided beatdown,' he said. 'But I wish him luck in his fight against Usyk, but styles make fights and his style and my style don't gel. I would annihilate him.' Alalshikh signalled a potential Fury return with a social media post on Tuesday which referenced the 'rabbit' nickname given by Fury to Usyk in the build-up to their previous fights. 'The 'Gypsy King' will be back,' Alalshikh wrote. 'I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026 … We have a rabbit to hunt.'

Ryanair flights cancelled due to air traffic control strikes

Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary renewed calls on EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to take 'urgent action' to reform European Union air traffic control (ATC) services in light of the disruption, which comes at the start of the European summer holidays. 4.7M Ryanair passengers delayed by French Air Traffic Control this year‼️ Full story on ATC 'League of Delays'👇 — Ryanair Press Team (@RyanairPress) July 2, 2025 Mr O'Leary said: 'Once again, European families are held to ransom by French air traffic controllers going on strike. 'It is not acceptable that overflights over French airspace en route to their destination are being cancelled/delayed as a result of yet another French ATC strike. 'It makes no sense and is abundantly unfair on EU passengers and families going on holidays.' Ryanair has long-campaigned for an overhaul of ATC services across Europe. It wants the EU to ensure ATC services are fully staffed for the first wave of daily departures, as well as to protect overflights during national ATC strikes. 'These two splendid reforms would eliminate 90% of all ATC delays and cancellations, and protect EU passengers from these repeated and avoidable ATC disruptions due to yet another French ATC strike,' Mr O'Leary added. Ryanair also said on Wednesday it had been hit by the recent conflict in the Middle East, and it cancelled more than 800 flights last month. It is among those to have cancelled and rerouted flights amid the conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as continued attacks in Gaza. Last week, flights were halted at Dubai airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as passengers were told to expect further delays and cancellations. Ryanair said it still operated more than 109,000 flights in June, indicating that fewer than 1% of flights were affected. The Ireland-based business carried 19.9 million passengers in June, representing a 3% increase on the same month last year.
