KATSEYE faces backlash as fans accuse HYBE of mistreating and sidelining Manon in group promotions
Global girl group KATSEYE, formed through HYBE and Geffen Records' joint project, is facing mounting backlash as fans express concern over the visible absence of member Manon in recent group promotions.
The growing controversy began earlier this week when a tweet highlighting Manon's minimal screen time and lack of presence in multiple appearances went viral.

Supporters quickly compiled numerous examples, including her exclusion from a billboard celebration with Glossier.
In group photos, Manon was noticeably absent, and in one case, her face on the billboard was obscured by another member.
Fans also pointed out her individual image was missing from a recent group interview with Hypebae, and that she had limited presence in the group's video collaboration with Monster High.
Tensions reached a tipping point as fans expressed frustration, arguing the pattern was too frequent to dismiss. Many questioned why the only Black member of KATSEYE would be continually sidelined, sparking broader conversations about representation and racial sensitivity in global entertainment projects.
Online comparisons were swiftly drawn to similar concerns raised in the past with Black members of other pop groups, such as Leigh-Anne Pinnock of Little Mix and Normani of Fifth Harmony.
Critics called for transparency from HYBE and Geffen Records, but neither the company nor KATSEYE's official accounts have issued a public response.

BTS agency HYBE raided over alleged fraud trading

SEOUL: HYBE, the agency behind K-pop superstars BTS, was raided by police on Thursday in connection with alleged fraudulent trading involving its founder Bang Si-hyuk, investigators said. 'We are conducting a search and seizure at HYBE's headquarters in Yongsan District,' Seoul police said in a brief statement. Bang, the mastermind behind BTS, is under investigation over allegations that he misled early investors to reap illicit profits from the company's 2020 initial public offering. He is accused of gaining around 200 billion won (US$146 million) through the process, according to local reports. HYBE has denied Bang committed any wrongdoing. 'We will dutifully clarify that the listing at the time was carried out in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations,' the company said in early July, pledging 'active cooperation' with authorities to get to the bottom of the case. Bang allegedly misled HYBE's early investors, who held pre-IPO shares, by telling them in 2019 he had no plans to take the company public. He then allegedly encouraged them to sell their shares to private equity funds when in fact IPO plan was in the making. HYBE went public in 2020, after the shareholders sold their stakes. Top stars and directors head to Venice for high-powered 2025 festival The 52-year-old is accused of secretly striking a deal with the private equity funds to receive a portion of the profits they made from selling shares after the IPO. 2026 comeback The investigation comes as all seven BTS members complete their mandatory military service and prepare for a comeback next year. HYBE announced this month that a new album and world tour were scheduled for 2026. BTS, known for championing progressive causes, holds the record as the most-streamed group on Spotify and became the first K-pop act to top both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Artist 100 charts in the United States. Before their military service, BTS generated more than 5.5 trillion won ($4 billion) in yearly economic impact, according to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. That accounts for roughly 0.2 percent of South Korea's total GDP, according to official data. There had been debate over whether BTS should be granted exemptions from military service – sometimes granted to Olympic medallists and classical artists who win top international awards – but pop stars do not qualify under South Korean laws. With the lack of public consensus on the matter, the members enlisted individually, beginning in late 2022.

Rick Ross claps back after 50 Cent's yacht video jab misfires, person in footage allegedly identified

50 Cent shared a grainy yacht video on Instagram suggesting Rick Ross was kissing a man, captioning it, 'Ya man was looking real saucy kissing that boy on that boat! Thats not AI.' The clip sparked quick backlash as viewers pointed out the person seen embracing Ross had distinctly feminine features. Many claimed the woman was supermodel Jazzma Kendrick, discrediting 50's claim and flipping the narrative in Ross's favour. Rick Ross addressed the incident in a composed Instagram response, saying, 'Curtis Curtis Curtis, you're so infatuated with my lifestyle. You seen me on a yacht with a Black, beautiful woman and I hope you don't have anything against Black, beautiful women, Curtis.' Rick Ross with a message for 50 Cent 👀 — 2Cool2Blog (@2Cool2Blog) July 23, 2025 Ross also alluded to 50's past heartbreak, adding, 'You're a hurt ho, but get over it, man.' Though neither Ross nor Kendrick confirmed the woman's identity, most online users are convinced it was Kendrick in the video. One user commented, 'That's a supermodel and she bad af. Hard to diss this kinda flex,' while another noted, 'That's a female with a low cut.' The long-standing feud between Ross and 50 Cent dates back to 2009 and continues with frequent jabs, diss tracks, and social media drama. This latest episode only adds to the saga, but this time, the internet has clearly sided with Ross.

‘Cosby Show' actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner dies in drowning in Costa Rica

LOS ANGELES: US actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who played the son in the smash-hit sitcom 'The Cosby Show,' has drowned in Costa Rica, authorities in the country said Monday. He was 54. Warner played the loveable Theo Huxtable for all eight seasons of the show, helmed by disgraced comic actor Bill Cosby. 'We received a report of an adult male who died of drowning asphyxiation at Cocles Beach in Cahuita' on Sunday afternoon, said a statement from investigating police. 'When the victim entered the sea he was apparently pulled out by a current. 'The man was assisted by bystanders on the beach, but was pronounced dead by Red Cross lifeguards.' King's musical sage Errollyn Wallen blazes new path Local authorities identified him as the actor, and said his body had been transferred to a morgue for further analysis. Warner, who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on 'The Cosby Show,' also appeared in sitcoms 'Malcolm & Eddie' and 'Reed Between the Lines.' 'The Cosby Show,' which ran from 1984 to 1992, was one of the biggest TV hits of its time, detailing the lives of a middle-class Black family in New York. The show was inspired by the stand-up routines of Bill Cosby, who played the family's patriarch, a successful doctor. The show was a commercial and critical hit, and was seen as groundbreaking for its depiction of a loving, happy Black family. But its legacy has been overshadowed in recent years by dozens of complaints of sexual assault against Cosby, a man once known as 'America's Dad.'
