Celebs Go Dating's filming halted as Chaser Mark Labbett hit by health scare

Daily Mirror5 hours ago
Mark Labbett dives back into the dating pool in Celebs Go Dating. But one health-related incident led him to experience a terrifying moment behind the scenes of the C4 show.
It's the 14th season of the hit reality dating series, and who better to guide the latest batch of celebs through the romantic chaos than Anna Williamson?

The trusted matchmaker returns to the agency alongside Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, Paul C Brunson and everyone's favourite receptionist Tom Read Wilson.

Among the stars trying their luck on Celebs Go Dating is The Chase 's Mark Labbett - but he's more used to quizzes than kisses. 'I've been single for most of my life,' he says. 'I'm a little bit on the spectrum.' Mark says he finds human signals much harder than trivia. Facts are easy, people are complicated.'

A diabetes-related health scare made filming even tougher. 'One night, I had a hypoglycaemic attack,' he says. 'I might have been a bit grumpy that night. I apologised to everyone after.' Though he admits a nap on set helped him cope.
But the real curveball came when agents asked him to read social cues. 'I went, 'What do you mean?,'' he says. 'You don't notice people's emotions when in the room?,' and I said no. There was shock on both sides.'

Anna Williamson, on the other hand, was thrilled to be back on the Channel 4 reality series. The latest season of Celebs Go Dating opens with a sunny shake-up, with the celebs kicking off their dating journeys with a trip to Ibiza.
'Get your popcorn ready,' Anna adds. 'We have a 'new' agency this series. We've got amazing celebrities who are so different. They each brought such different challenges for us coaches to work on."
This year's line-up is packed with TV favourites from across the reality and entertainment spectrum. Love Island 's Olivia Hawkins, Too Hot To Handle star Louis Russell, The Sandman 's Donna Preston and Made In Chelsea bad boy Sam Prince all step into the dating ring alongside Mark.

They're joined by TV personality and autism advocate Christine McGuinness, singer turned reality star Kerry Katona – who returns to the show six years after her first appearance – and S Club 7 's Jon Lee.
'The challenge this year was trying to keep up with the celebrities and their dating prowess,' Anna says. 'It was quite challenging to help some of our celebrities unlearn certain behaviours. Some of them didn't know how to even walk into a date and execute it appropriately.'
Anna, Tara and Paul work closely with the celebrities to help them identify unhealthy patterns throughout their on-screen dates. 'We let things play out,' Anna says.

'They feel emotional, tearful – that's part of the process. It's a very important part of the work. When we get to our vulnerable side, we start to look at what needs to be done.' It's a tough process, particularly with high-profile names. 'With celebrities, they are typically very guarded,' Anna says.
'They've usually lost a bit of faith in the dating world because they've been burnt a lot along the way. Their dating pool tends to be smaller because they tend to date more within their celebrity circle.

They've been burnt by people selling stories or that haven't been dating them for genuine reasons. They can be a bit guarded and jaded.'
But Anna knows how to break down barriers. 'Tara always calls me Mama Anna,' she says, 'I am a nurturer by nature. I'm always the first to jump up and give someone a well-needed hug.'

That being said, she's no pushover. 'I can be tough when I need to be,' she says. 'A couple of our celebs get a little bit of a dressing down from me this series.
It might surprise you, but it always comes from a place of love. I will always help our celebrities, but if I see repeated habits, I will tell them. And I do.' Her priority is always clarity and accountability.
'The most unrealistic expectation, for a couple of our celebrities, is that you can date multiple people within the agency, but not take accountability for how you either continue or finish those interactions,' Anna says. 'Some of them got a bit of a bitter pill when they were having fun. Some of those bad habits started to catch up with them.'
Fortunately, Anna has support from her colleagues at the agency, Paul, Tara and Tom. As for the future? She has high hopes for the series. ' Pete Wicks has been on three times, we may as well have Sam (Thompson) on three times,' she says.
But what she really wants is a reunion. 'I would love to do an All Stars version of Celebs Go Dating,' she says. 'Paul and I are always talking about this, because we've had so many celebrities come through our doors. We are always in touch with them.'

Love Island's Meg and Dejon vow to 'prove everyone wrong' after Maya Jama grilling

Dumped Love Island stars Meg and Dejon have spoken out about their time in the villa after they were brutally dumped by ex-Islanders just days before the final Meg and Dejon were the only Love Island couple to stay together since day one, however they failed to make it to the end after being brutally dumped by their fellow Islanders last night. ‌ On Friday night, Megan and Conor were dumped from the villa after receiving the least amount of votes for the most compatible couple. However, it didn't stop there. ‌ Last night, it was revealed that Meg and Dejon and Ty and Angel were also vulnerable after the public vote. However, their fate was decided by the ex-Islanders who made a dramatic arrival back to the villa. It was a close call - but in the end it was Meg and Dejon who received the most votes. ‌ It came after the couple had a huge argument during their final date, with Casa Amor bombshell Andrada pointing out that Dejon was "aware of the cameras" before making the decision to dump them. Despite looking downcast - Meg and Dejon have now revealed they "weren't surprised" that they were dumped days before the final. Speaking on the argument, Dejon said: "I wasn't shocked to leave because of the timing of mine and Meg's argument that we had. I knew people might not like that, so I wasn't shocked to leave, but I know what we have is real and in real relationships you have disagreements. I'm still grateful for our experience and I wouldn't have changed it." ‌ Echoing his statement, Meg added: "We weren't shocked, especially being so close to the end and how things had ended after our date. As soon as we saw the former Islanders come back, we knew we would be going. All the couples are very compatible so it was a case of all being in it together and knowing we would all see each other again in a day's time." Maya Jama herself wasn't letting Dejon getting off lightly, telling him he was "obviously very aware of the cameras" as they were dumped from the Island. ‌ During Aftersun, the host asked if he understood why some people may have thought he had a game plan, to which he added: "Yeah, definitely. "Coming in, I just thought, I'm on Love Island. I'm gonna explore connections, I'm gonna be flirty, I'm gonna see what my strongest connection was," as he continued: "It was always Meg." Despite this - Meg and Dejon say they're desperate to prove everyone wrong, and are even thinking about moving in together. Asked what was next, Meg said: "Proving to everyone we are actually going to stay together! Spending time together and introducing one another to family and friends." "I definitely want to have a conversation with her family, get to know them and have her meet my family so they can see the real us. ‌ "A lot of the Islanders saw how genuine we were and I have no doubt it will be like that with our families. After that hopefully we can move in together as I can't imagine not living with her," Dejon said.

Celebrity SAS chaos as two stars walk out during first episode

Celebrity SAS chaos as two stars walk out during first episode Two celebrities were seen exiting the Channel 4 series Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, despite the show only just beginning Hannah Spearritt quit Celebrity SAS (Image: Channel 4) Celeb SAS: Who Dares Wins was plunged into turmoil on Sunday (3 August) as a pair of celebrities withdrew during the opening episode. ‌ The Channel 4 military challenge programme made its return on Sunday night, though proceedings didn't unfold as anticipated. ‌ Fourteen famous participants, featuring Love Island personalities Chloe Burrows and Tasha Ghouri, alongside X Factor veteran Lucy Spraggan and footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa among others, faced gruelling tests under the watchful eyes of Mark 'Billy' Billingham, Jason 'Foxy' Fox, Rudy Reyes, and Chris Oliver. ‌ An early challenge transported the recruits to a derelict facility for what was branded the 'most perilous' hostage extraction exercise they would encounter. Former S Club 7 member Hannah Spearritt, 44, who later pursued acting with appearances in programmes including Primeval and EastEnders, was visibly finding the experience overwhelming, reports the Mirror. Moments afterwards, it emerged that the Reach vocalist had become the inaugural departure from the programme, with fellow contestants suggesting she may have experienced a panic episode. ‌ Two stars walked off Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins during the first episode on Sunday night (Image: PA) Nevertheless, in a pre-recorded interview shown shortly before, Hannah revealed: "I am pretty determined. I wouldn't say I give up easily but whether I get to the end or not...I don't think I'll go on the first day because I just wouldn't forgive myself." She subsequently informed the directing staff: "Sorry - I'm done. Sorry. I've reached a point." ‌ She wasn't alone in struggling early on, as dancer Louie Spence also made a dramatic exit when the demanding scenes became too much. Speaking beforehand, Louie had said: "If there was a world war and they decided they were gonna call everyone up, would I be the first to jump up and say 'Yes me?' Being surrounded my thousands of soldiers, I might just jump at it. I'd be the home guard like on Dad's Army. We'll have a gay Dad's Army. Honestly, they wouldn't wanna mess with the gays!" Yet despite his bravado, moments afterwards Chris Fox branded the group's performance as "abysmal" following their most recent challenge. He urged the recruits to remember their purpose for being there and advised them to approach things "seriously". ‌ Louie interjected: "I wanna do an immediate withdrawal. I just don't have the conviction and I feel as though I'm not dedicated enough," he declared whilst removing his armband. Chris offered him the opportunity to replace his armband, but Louie declined, prompting Chris to respond: "Get your kit." Louie Spence also walked off the programme in the first episode (Image: Channel 4) In a pre-recorded interview, the 56 year old Louie had stated: "I'm a survivor, I would keep battling to survive. I think the worst way for me to leave the course would be to choose to leave. That would really p*** me off," yet moments later, it was confirmed he had indeed departed the programme. ‌ Before his abrupt departure, Louie was full of admiration for the programme's directing staff, stating: "I actually looked at them and thought, 'oh, my God', because what they do and what they've done is incredible. I could never do that for real. "Do you know what I mean? They are a different breed, like doctors and surgeons and things like that. So I did look at them in that sense and think that what they really did in their day job was incredible." When questioned about what he found most challenging, he confessed: "Definitely the physical side of the course. Article continues below "Even though I've struggled with my anxiety and depression, mentally I was in a really strong, good place. It wasn't about an individual which they made very clear at the beginning, it was about the group. I love being a group player, I love being with people. But in that scenario, in the reality of it when I was there, I didn't think I was capable of being a group player." Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Channel 4 at 9pm
