He clarified that while using fallen or unsuitable trees is acceptable, felling healthy trees poses significant risks. "The country currently maintains 25.1% forest coverage, with the state showing only 21%, falling short of other regions by 11%. To ensure adequate oxygen supply and water availability, forest coverage should reach 33%. Kharge advocated for tree plantation across educational institutions, roadsides, and available lands," Kharge said. "Despite forest development being a key component of the 20-point programme, some have dismissed its importance. Currently, 20 lakh hectares of forest has been lost, including coastal regions. While the periphery shows tree coverage, internal areas reveal cleared land for development, which is concerning. Environmental protection requires collective responsibility and awareness. Modi govt's recent forest conservation amendment act lacks proper implementation. Continued environmental degradation threatens access to clean air, sunlight, and food security," he commented. Kharge recommended utilising river water to develop forests near dam backwaters. He encouraged public participation in expanding forest coverage through home gardening. The state govt's target of planting 3 crore saplings this year could prove highly beneficial even if 2.5 crore plants survive, he added. DJB Regains Financial Powers To Independently Execute Major Projects
New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board will now be able to independently execute capital-intensive projects without depending on the Delhi cabinet to approve them, chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. Gupta said the govt has restored the financial powers of DJB, which were taken away by the previous govt in the 2021-22 financial year. This will help in expediting high-cost projects such as the rejuvenation of the Yamuna, sewage treatment, and improvement of regular drinking water supply. She added that the financial powers of DJB's chairperson, chief executive officer, and other senior officials have also been significantly increased. Gupta emphasised that the enhancement in the board's powers was aimed at making governance more efficient, responsive, and effective. The board will now be authorised to sanction all projects over Rs 50 crore independently. While the DJB chairperson (water minister) can approve projects worth Rs 25-50 crore, the CEO has the power to clear projects costing between Rs 5 crore and Rs 25 crore, and the members can give their sanction to projects worth up to Rs 5 crore. Officials said the senior officers will also have enhanced financial powers now. "This will lead to better decision-making at every level of the board and reduce unnecessary delays in execution," said an official. The CM said Yamuna cleaning plans remained only on paper for a long time due to the cumbersome and lengthy approval processes, but the bottleneck has now been removed. "Our govt is committed to delivering result-oriented governance, not entangling people in paperwork," the CM said. She added that the functioning of the DJB has now been made more transparent and accountable, which will reduce the chances of corruption and ensure responsibility at every level.

6 masked men uproot SBI ATM with Rs 18 lakh in 14 minutes in Rajasthan
In a daring late-night heist, six masked men uprooted and took away an entire State Bank of India ATM containing approximately Rs 18 lakh in cash from Ajitgarh town in Rajasthan's Sikar district. Police said the entire operation was executed in just 14 incident, which occurred between 2 am and 2:30 am, has sparked fear among local residents and triggered a multi-team police masked assailants arrived in a black Scorpio vehicle and targeted the SBI ATM located near a government school on Chomu road. The security guard on duty, Gajendra Singh, was brutally assaulted and tied up with ropes. His mouth was gagged, and he was reportedly beaten with an iron rod for resisting. The miscreants then disconnected the electricity supply and disabled the CCTV cameras before uprooting the ATM robbers also snatched the guard's mobile phone before fleeing the scene with the machine. Footage from a CCTV camera at the ATM captured the masked men entering the premises one by one. However, due to their covered faces, identifying them has proven Superintendent of Police Umesh Gupta confirmed that the robbers acted with precise planning.
