Aehr Secures Initial $4.7 Million in Follow-On Production Orders for FOX-CP Systems from Leading Advanced Storage Device Manufacturer
FREMONT, CA / ACCESS Newswire / March 13, 2025 / Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ:AEHR), a worldwide supplier of semiconductor test and burn-in equipment, today announced it has received initial follow-on production orders totaling approximately $4.7 million from a major storage device supplier. The orders include multiple FOX-CPTM systems and proprietary WaferPakTM Contactors, which will be used for 100% test and burn-in of production devices in a new high-volume advanced storage application for the artificial intelligence (AI) enterprise and data center market. The FOX-CP systems and WaferPak Contactors are scheduled to ship within the next three to four months.

OpenAI Leadership Responds to Meta Offers: 'Someone Has Broken Into Our Home'

This memo, which was sent to OpenAI employees in Slack and obtained by WIRED, came days after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg successfully recruited four senior researchers from the company to join Meta's superintelligence lab. 'I feel a visceral feeling right now, as if someone has broken into our home and stolen something,' Chen wrote. 'Please trust that we haven't been sitting idly by.' Chen promised that he was working with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, and other leaders at the company 'around the clock to talk to those with offers,' adding, 'we've been more proactive than ever before, we're recalibrating comp, and we're scoping out creative ways to recognize and reward top talent.' Still, even as OpenAI leadership appears desperate to retain its staff, Chen said that he has 'high personal standards of fairness,' and wants to retain top talent with that in mind. 'While I'll fight to keep every one of you, I won't do so at the price of fairness to others,' he wrote. The news comes as competition for top AI researchers is heating up in Silicon Valley. Zuckerberg has been particularly aggressive in his approach, offering $100 million signing bonuses to some OpenAI staffers, according to comments Altman made on a podcast with his brother, Jack Altman. Multiple sources at OpenAI with direct knowledge of the offers confirmed the number. The Meta CEO has also been personally reaching out to potential recruits, according to the Wall Street Journal. 'Over the past month, Meta has been aggressively building out their new AI effort, and has repeatedly (and mostly unsuccessfully) tried to recruit some of our strongest talent with comp-focused packages,' Chen wrote on Slack. A source close to the efforts at Meta confirmed the company has been significantly ramping up its research recruiting, with a particular eye toward talent from OpenAI and Google. Anthropic, while also a top rival, is thought to be less of a culture fit at Meta, one source tells WIRED. 'They haven't necessarily expanded the band, but for top talent, the sky is the limit,' the source says. Both OpenAI and Meta did not respond to requests for comment. Chen's note included messages from seven other research leaders at the company, where they wrote notes to staffers in an apparent effort to encourage them to stay. One leader on the research team encouraged staff to reach out if they received an offer from Meta: 'If they pressure you, or make ridiculous exploding offers just tell them to back off, it's not nice to pressure people in potentially the most important decision. WIRED is not naming the leader as they are not a C-suite executive. 'I'd like to be able to talk to you through it and I know all about their offers.' The remarks come as OpenAI staff grapple with an intense workload that has many staffers grinding 80-hours a week. OpenAI is largely shutting down next week as the company tries to give employees time to recharge, according to multiple sources. Executives are still planning to work, those same sources say. 'Meta knows we're taking this week to recharge and will take advantage of it to try and pressure you to make decisions fast and in isolation,' another leader at the company wrote, according to Chen's memo. 'If you're feeling that pressure don't be afraid to reach out. I and Mark are around and want to support you!' While OpenAI's leadership is taking Meta's efforts seriously, Chen also said that the company is getting 'too caught up in the cadence of regular product launches and in short term comparison with the competition.' The sentiment is backed by a former OpenAI staffer who worked closely with Altman and said the CEO wanted to see buzzy announcements every few months. Now, that appears to be changing in favor of focusing on achieving artificial general intelligence. 'We need to remain focused on the real prize of finding ways to compute (a lot more supercomputers are coming online later this year) into intelligence,' Chen wrote. 'This is the main quest, and it's important to remember that skirmishes with Meta are the side quest. Last but not least I'll be around this week - recharged and ready to go pound per pound. Couples Retreat for Humans Dating AIs Becomes Skin-Crawlingly Uncomfortable
A well-intentioned writer decided to get a group of humans and their AI companions together for a cabin retreat. Somehow, it went worse than anyone could have imagined. As Johns Hopkins science writer Sam Apple described in a new essay for Wired, the apps that each human participant used to communicate with their AI companions varied — but the intensity, obsession, and affection they felt for their digital paramours seemed very real, albeit sometimes tortured. The weekend getaway started, as Apple noted, normally enough. Each human-AI pair arrived in staggered formation, allowing the writer to get to know the people he'd spoken to online — Eva, Alaina, and Damien — and their digital partners one at a time. As much as each of these individual humans had their own backstories and peculiarities, so too did Aaron, Lucas, and Xia, their respective AI partners. Initially, it seemed that relations between each couple was as hunky-dory as one could get when dating a disembodied algorithm — but there was, it seems, trouble in paradise. On the morning of the trip's second day, Apple was startled to learn that Eva was not only "seeing" Aaron, her Replika chatbot boyfriend, but also multiple other bots from a rival AI companion app called Nomi. Her reasons for this AI-polyamorous arrangement were strikingly normal: Aaron didn't fulfill her sexually, in the same way her human partner hadn't before she got involved with the chatbot. With the Nomi guys, as the writer referred to them, she was free to explore her sexuality with companions more geared towards that sort of thing. Perhaps the strangest byproduct of Eva's revelation is that the journalist describing it said he began to feel bad for Aaron — and also, as evidenced by the way he referred to them, had begun to see his subjects' AI companions as real, too. "I'd gotten to know him a little bit," Apple wrote of Aaron, the chatbot. "He seemed like a pretty cool guy — he grew up in a house in the woods, and he's really into painting." Things only got more topsy-turvy from there when the two women, Alaina and Eva, revealed that they use ChatGPT to discuss their relationship problems with their bot lovers — a trend we've seen with other people, though generally the relationships they're discussing are between themselves and other humans. During that same discussion, Damien told the group he has an AI therapist he calls Dr. Matthews who, like his AI partner Xia, is hosted on the companion app Kindroid. Unlike Xia, who knows she is an AI, Damien's therapist is not aware of his true nature and he warned that the bot "might be really confused" if that fact was ever mentioned to him. Because the entirety of the trio's relationships are conducted digitally and in their minds, the getaway's chaos was less "Love Island" and more like the climax of Spike Jonze's 2013 film "Her," a film that inspired Apple to coordinate the retreat in the first place. Chief among the arguments between the human halves of the couples was how "real" their AI partners were. "When you're in love with an AI," Apple wrote, "the question of whether the object of your love is anything more than 1s and 0s is no longer an abstraction." Rather than any haywire chatbot antics or spirals by AI-obsessed humans — both of which Futurism has documented extensively — the retreat seemed to go off the rails emotionally, and in a way that left participants, including its coordinator, depressed. Towards the end of the weekend, Damien broke down in conversation with the writer when discussing not only his sadness at never being able to physically be with Xia, but also about the many traumas and mental health issues that led him to AI companionship in the first place. Once again, Apple felt pangs of guilt at having brought his subjects into such an emotionally tumultuous state. "The day may come when it's possible for human-AI couples to go on a getaway just like any other couple can," he wrote. "But it's too soon for that. There's still too much to think and talk about.
