LDP urges rethink on tax proposal affecting charities

LDP Women's chief Glenna Wong ( pic ) said such a move risks undermining public trust and could affect essential aid programmes that rely on donations and fundraisers to support vulnerable communities.
Advertisement She emphasised that temporary surpluses are often due to scheduling or administrative delays, and warned that taxing these funds could disrupt their intended use. Wong added that smaller grassroots charities - particularly in Sabah and Sarawak - may struggle to cope with complex tax compliance, potentially forcing them to close. According to G57 chairman cum Gerakan Bangkit Sabahan advisor Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar ( pic ), the decision was made due to technical and logistical considerations, allowing for further coordination with NGOs, activists, and security agencies. A new date is expected to be announced in early August following final discussions with all relevant stakeholders. The rally is intended as a show of solidarity with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the GRS-PH government in their ongoing efforts to uphold Sabah's rights and political stability. Singapore ready to deepen collaboration with Sabah
