JPSO officials said an initial investigation shows that a Toyota Sienna was driving in the center westbound lane when a 76-year-old man stepped out in front of it.
The man suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on March 23.

Heat Advisory returns plus an Extreme Heat Warning starts off the new week!
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – As if Sunday wasn't hot enough, gear up for a toasty start to the new week. Sunday's Heat Advisory ended at 8 p.m. leading to a brief 'cool down' through the overnight, But it'll warm up pretty fast early on come Monday eventually getting up to 96-degrees with mostly sunny skies and a few scattered showers in the forecast. Another Heat Advisory will be in effect for your Monday starting at 10 a.m. and running until 8 p.m. There will also be an Extreme Heat Warning in effect starting at 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. on Monday for the following areas: St. James, St. John The Baptist, St. Charles, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Jefferson, and Plaquemines parishes in addition to Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties. When you put the forecasted temperatures together with the expected 'very humid' conditions, we will surely have Heat Index values nearing or even surpassing the 110-mark. I may sound like a broken record at this point because I can't stress the importance of heat safety and the following simple tips: (a) stay hydrated, (b) limit your time outdoors especially during the peak hours of the day and (c) check-in on family and friends who don't particularly do well in the dangerous heat. With what's currently expected for Tuesday in terms of the temperature and level of humidity, there's a pretty good chance that we could see another Heat Advisory for that day as well. Slidell woman accused of buying Lamborghini while on government assistance
SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — A Slidell woman was arrested on Monday after she allegedly paid for multiple luxuries, including a Lamborghini and plastic surgery, while fraudulently remaining on government assistance. According to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, 35-year-old Candace Taylor, of Rousset Ridge in Slidell, was being investigated by the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation after a complaint came from the Louisiana Department of Health accusing Taylor of committing Medicaid recipient fraud. Man shot, killed near Algiers gas station Tuesday morning Investigators say the alleged crimes occurred between 2020 and 2024, with her multiple businesses reportedly earning over $9.5 million in revenue throughout that time. According to the affidavit, in 2020, she allegedly claimed to have no income and was approved for Medicaid. During those four years, investigators said Taylor reportedly made deposits of over $480,000, over $45,000 in car payments to Audi Finance, multiple six-figure withdrawals for property purchases, paid for cosmetic surgery, high-end jewelry, luxury services and purchased a 2022 Lamborghini Urus. Victim of fatal I-94 crash near Northbrook identified as Chicago man
The Lake County Coroner's Office announced Friday afternoon the identity of the man killed in a single car crash on the I-94 expressway earlier this week in Northbrook. Illinois State Police and Northbrook Fire Department officials responded to the crash north of Dundee Road on I-94 in the northern suburb on Wednesday, July 16, at approximately 10:42 a.m., according to the coroner's office. Emergency responders took 60-year-old Jianzhong Tan, of Chicago, to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room. The cause of death, as determined by the coroner's office, was blunt force injuries as a result of the crash. Tan's vehicle, a Toyota Sienna minivan, caused 'significant damage' in a construction zone in that area, the coroner's office said. The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
