Suspect arrested for armed robbery in Orange County

A suspect was arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Orange County. The suspect was identified as Jonathan Lopez, 22, of Santa Ana, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. On May 10, police responded to a robbery at a shopping plaza at 3321 S. Bristol Street in Santa Ana, near the South Coast Plaza mall. Surveillance video captured the female victim walking to her car at night. Moments after she arrived, the suspect drove up, stepped out and pointed his gun at her, demanding she hand over her property. He forced his way into her car and stole her wallet and a large amount of cash, police said. He fled the scene before officers arrived. Following a weeks-long investigation, detectives identified Lopez as the suspect involved. On July 9, a search warrant was served at his home where officers found the victim's belongings as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition, two large capacity rifles and handgun magazines, and approximately $15,000 in cash. Lopez was taken into custody following the search. The case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information can call Santa Ana police at 714-245-8049.
