How George Kittle is giving Mykel Williams early ‘welcome to the NFL' moment

Star 49ers tight end George Kittle thrives in coach Kyle Shanahan's outside zone scheme as a blocker, and first-round draft pick Mykel Williams might have to learn that the hard way in practice this season.
Kittle detailed his early interactions with Williams during San Francisco's offseason so far, and it's clear things could get interesting between the two teammates during training camp later this month — all in good fun, of course.
'I get to run outside zone against Mykel Williams, and so that's going to be really fun because he was telling me how he thinks it's disrespectful for tight ends to block him,' Kittle told NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco at the American Century Championship on Thursday in South Lake Tahoe.
'And I was like, welcome to the NFL baby. You're going to see something different on these practices, I promise you that.'

Kittle's PFF run block grade of 84.5 is the best for NFL tight ends over the last seven seasons, and the All-Pro could put together a feature-length film of his viral pancake blocks over the years. Kittle even has admitted to laughing after tossing an opponent onto their back.
'Whether you're taking their soul, they just made a highlight reel clip, and you never want to be on a highlight reel clip,' Kittle told reporters in 2021. 'So I kind of laugh about the fact that they just made a highlight reel clip. So thanks.'
Kittle is an all-around talent as a blocker and pass-catcher, and Williams certainly will learn quickly that the 49ers do things differently when it comes to outside zone.

Barcelona complete signing of Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen
Barcelona have completed the signing of Roony Bardghji from Danish side FC Copenhagen. The 19-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the La Liga side. Bardghji's contract with Copenhagen was due to expire in December but the clubs have agreed a deal which sees the winger join Barcelona immediately. He is expected to join straight up with Hansi Flick's first team squad in time for preseason training which begins on Monday. Bardghji made only six appearances in the back end of the 2024-25 Danish Superliga season after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in May 2024. Before that injury, Bardghji had been touted as one of the brightest prospects in European football and had scored 10 goals in 36 appearances that season for Copenhagen. Advertisement The Athletic has previously reported that Barcelona were keen to bolster their attacking ranks this summer but missed out on Nico Williams after the Spain international opted to stay at Athletic Club on a new contract until 2035. Bardghji has also been capped at youth level by Sweden, featuring nine times for their Under-21s. He made 84 first-team appearances for Copenhagen, scoring 15 goals.

What is the NFL's best division in 2025?
A few years ago, the NFC East had three teams in the playoffs. Last season, the division had both teams in the NFC championship game. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders to win the NFC championship and would go on to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. All four divisional teams have made the playoffs at least once in the last three years. The NFC East must be the best division, or, at the very least, one of the top two divisions in the NFL. Right? Not, according to Eric Edholm of who ranked all eight divisions, with the NFC East coming in at No. 4. The Super Bowl champion Eagles will try to defend their title with the vast majority of last year's offense back in place and enough defensive reinforcements to match the unit's 2024 success. Their biggest threat could come from within the division, with the rising Commanders giving the East arguably the best 1-2 punch of any division. Last year's Eagles were only truly outplayed one time all season -- a 33-16 defeat at Tampa Bay in Week 4 -- and they have enough talent to replace their free-agent losses on defenses. After a few early stumbles last September, the defense emerged as an elite unit -- and a repeat wouldn't be shocking. Here's what Edholm said about the rest of the division. The Commanders took the league by storm, with Jayden Daniels stealing the key to the city in a brilliant rookie season. Daniels is a special talent, and Washington added two big offensive pieces (LT Laremy Tunsil and WR Deebo Samuel), but concerns remain on defense. The Cowboys are a tricky team to handicap with Brian Schottenheimer taking over. Dallas' new head man needs to revitalize the run game and get the best from Dak Prescott. But the defense also looms as an area of worry after last season's troubles stopping the run. The Giants have added more talent to a solid defense and completely refreshed the QB room, offering hope for better results. But a daunting schedule and major pressure on head coach Brian Daboll won't make it the easiest turnaround this season without major improvement on both sides of the ball. New York remains a bottom-eight team until it proves otherwise. Opinions are mixed about which team will finish second in the division. Some believe the Cowboys will give the Eagles a fight with quarterback Dak Prescott back and healthy. However, even more believe that Washington is here to stay. Jayden Daniels is already the best quarterback in the division, and that always gives you a chance.
