
Manly Wharf has welcomed a brand-new seafood restaurant with a former Rockpool chef in charge
'We feel very fortunate to play a role in the ongoing revitalisation of Manly Wharf,' says Adam Flaskas, co-founder and director of Artemus Group.
'With Felons Seafood, our hope was to create something that feels true to Manly – a relaxed, welcoming space where people can enjoy fresh local seafood and take in the beauty of the harbour. It's a simple, coastal venue shaped by the warmth and spirit of the locals,' he adds.
Head chef and Palawa man Luke Bourke has worked alongside Corey Costello (ex-Rockpool and current chef-owner of Marrickville's award-winning 20 Chapel) to create the menu. Expect quality Aussie produce, with the chefs hitting up local fishers and growers.
Menu highlights include freshly shucked oysters with native kelp vinegar and cucumber mignonette; a prawn cocktail; an abalone schnitzel sandwich with salted chilli mayonnaise; a chilled seafood platter featuring king prawns, Sydney rock oysters, tuna tartare, honey bug cocktail and lemongrass pipis; and a showstopping Queensland mud crab with black pepper and curry leaf sauce.
Feel like a classic fish and chips? Choose from a selection of market fish, served with house-made tartare sauce pimped up with pickled Warrigal greens and Felons IPA malt vinegar. For dessert, step back in time with a seasonal trifle plucked from your nan's cookbook – this winter, it's served with port wine–poached plums (yum).
The drinks list is fun. Take Felons Super Cold Crisp Lager, for example. Poured at -2°C, the team reckons it's Australia's coldest lager – and with a lean malt profile, light bitterness and smooth finish, it's going to go down a treat come summer. We're also fond of the Salt and Vinegar Martini made with Oyster Shell Gin, caperberry brine and chardonnay vinegar; and a striking blue Yuzu Break with Four Pillars Fresh Yuzu Gin, blue curaçao and amaretto. Whites, rosé and fizz are mostly from Australia and designed to be matched with fresh seafood. Hello, Sunday sessions.

'It was a shock for me at the time. I had to drop my ego because I didn't have any income. 'So I thought, 'I'm just going to work at Tesco and play semi-professional football on the side. 'At Tesco I did everything and anything. Honestly, I was on the tills, I was doing click and collect. I used to get up at five in the morning and then finish at two or three. 'At that age, I was earning more money working at Tesco than I was on my scholarship at Cambridge. So I was saving more money and was able to fund my university fees. 'That ended up giving me the football career I had because I enjoyed those years of my life without having a ridiculous amount of pressure that a lot of academy players have to deal with.' Hannant ended up spending two years with Gateshead before Port Vale snapped him up in 2018 when he was aged 24 and made 68 appearances for the then League Two club. He moved to Cambridge and featured in 77 games, winning promotion from League Two in 2021. But, with the benefit of hindsight, he made a mistake by not signing a new deal and playing League One football in favour of a bigger pay cheque with Colchester in the fourth tier. He said: 'Because I'd come from working at Tesco and earning a modest income, I was waiting for a deal that I deserved and had worked hard for. 'If I look back, do I regret it? Maybe there's a little part of me that does because I'd have wanted to try and play in League One and play against some of them big clubs. But you can't live in regret.' Hannant had initially come through the youth ranks at Norwich where he was from the ages of nine to almost 15. But I said, 'I can't keep up with you Gary.' 'And he was like, 'Get on your bike, mate.' So I used to bike next to him as he ran around the village. I had to chase him on my bike too! He was so fast. So today Hannant is grateful he gets another shot at the EFL while Oldham fans are finally happy after three decades of misery since they were founder members of the Premier League. Hannant, who was born in 1993 during Oldham's last season in the top flight, said: 'Last time I checked we'd sold almost 2,000 tickets to go to Milton Keynes. That is massive. There's a lot of confidence in the camp and if we can be consistent then we can have a strong season.'

Newcastle receive 10-word Alexander Isak warning to leave Liverpool response non-negotiable
Alexander Isak has made it clear he wants to leave Newcastle for Liverpool this summer, but the Magpies' owners have been urged not to sell the striker Newcastle United's owners have received a firm ten-word warning to stand firm and prevent Alexander Isak from departing St James' Park. The Magpies rebuffed an offer worth a reported £120million in total from Liverpool for the Swedish striker on Friday, with the bid not meeting Newcastle 's £150m valuation. Isak, who netted 23 times in the Premier League last season, has missed his team's pre-season tour in Asia, instead training with his old club, Real Sociedad. It's widely anticipated that the Reds will soon table an enhanced offer for the 25-year-old. Ex-Premier League striker and former Newcastle coach Dean Saunders has urged the club's owners to reject any further advances for Isak from Anfield. Saunders, who worked for the Magpies during Graeme Souness 's tenure, cautioned against selling Isak, saying: "It's just like punching all the supporters in the stomach." Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Wolves and Wrexham manager said: "Newcastle haven't really had a good transfer losing Isaac is going to be a massive blow for them. How do you replace him? "It's a dilemma because he signed a five-year contract at Newcastle and he's got three years left. Liverpool have come knocking, and he's said to Newcastle, 'Right, I want to go.' Howe previously told ChronicleLive: "He is still our player. He's contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that's not in my full control. Meanwhile, Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon said: "For Alex, I feel for him too. It's difficult. People forget you're a human-being in that scenario. He will be going through a lot. The club is going through a lot. I hope everyone gets what they want in the end." Former Magpies forward Shola Ameobi has also weighed in on the Isak situation. Despite the ongoing uncertainty, he maintained that the owners still have grand ambitions. The Nigerian, who is serving as a club ambassador during the pre-season tour, said: "At the end of the day, this is football and when you are trying to mix it with the best teams, you are going to have great players that other teams want. "The thing for us is where we are at as a club, an ownership, we are really ambitious. We want to do our best for the club. They have shown that right from the get go, and that is not going to change. "There are things happening in the background. We are really keen to communicate that the club are going to do what is best for the club. He added: "Myself, being somebody who has lived this since I was a kid, it is great to see that ambition. Not only the manager and the staff, but all the ownership, the exec team, and the board, they are all on the same page and want us to win more trophies." ‘Incredible' fast food chain from Australia to open 100 new UK stores
It's been called 'the best Mexican on the market' – and now this Aussie-born favourite is planning to take over the UK. The popular fast food chain Zambrero, known for its customisable burritos and burrito bowls, is set to open 100 new UK restaurants by 2030. The Mexican-inspired chain first launched in London in 2021 and has since expanded to 13 locations, including Manchester, Birmingham, Essex and Reading. But it's not stopping there. Zambrero has confirmed more UK sites are on the way next year, including its very first Scottish location. 'We've had a lot of interest in the brand during the last couple of years – and now is the right time for us to expand through our franchise partners and work towards opening 100 restaurants by 2030,' Emily Teh, CEO of Zambrero UK, said. So, what's on the Zambrero menu? Customers can build their own burritos and bowls, nachos and quesadillas from a range of fillings, including pulled pork, chicken, cauliflower and spicy black rice, with salsa, cheese, sour cream and guacamole to top it off. Prices start from around £10 for a small burrito or burrito bowl, with larger sizes coming in closer to around £13. It'll also cost you extra for chips and guac, and churros. Zambrero is probably best known for its burritos and burrito bowls, and some customers have called them the best around. One reviewer raved on TikTok about the Manchester location, calling it 'incredible' and claiming it had 'the best burrito in town'. Founded in Canberra, Australia, in 2005, Zambrero has become the largest Mexican restaurant chain in both Australia and Ireland. With more than 300 global sites, it's now aiming to expand into the UK lunch scene. Social media is filled with praise, and TripAdvisor reviews are equally glowing. 'An absolute must go. I have 3 / 5 of my lunches there. Best Mexican on the market,' one customer wrote. Another called it 'the perfect work lunch spot', and if the expansion goes to plan, you might be seeing one open near your office sooner than you think. It's not the only popular fast food chain expanding in the UK. One burger joint from the Netherlands is also planning to open 100 new UK sites. More Trending Fat Phill's, which is said to be home to Amsterdam's 'best burger', quietly launched in Clapham Junction in London at the end of 2024, serving up smash burgers, American-style sandwiches, loaded fries and mac and cheese. The chain, also known as Fat Phill's Diner, is still relatively new, having only been founded in 2019 by Armin Vahabian, but it's already got 18 locations across the Netherlands. It's been brought over here by Freshly Baked Ltd, the franchisor behind pretzel joint Auntie Anne's UK, and as part of this deal, there are plans to open several more sites on London high streets in the near future and develop up to 100 sites nationwide over the next 10 years.
