Punjab MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa alleges threat to son from jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria
'Jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuriya has threatened to kill my son. One of my associates met my son and within one hour of leaving he was fired upon today,' Randhawa claimed in a post on X.
Randhawa further stated that he was currently in Delhi for the ongoing Parliament session and added, 'No gangster can shake me.' He also accused the Punjab government of allowing the law and order situation in the state to deteriorate, saying, '@BhagwantMann and @ArvindKejriwal have turned Punjab into a gangster's paradise where law and order has totally collapsed.'
The remarks follow ongoing tensions between Randhawa and Bhagwanpuria's family. The gangster's family had earlier alleged that Randhawa was involved in the killing of Bhagwanpuria's mother, Harjit Kaur, on June 26. Kaur died from gunshot injuries in what police described as a targeted attack by members of a rival group.
The police are yet to issue an official statement on Randhawa's latest allegations.
Meanwhile, reacting to Randhawa's allegations, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring slammed the 'complete collapse of law and order in Punjab'.
'A gangster has the audacity to threaten a senior @INCIndia leader and a former Deputy Chief Minister and a sitting MP, from inside the jail!!! Imagine the plight of a common people in Punjab. They are at the mercy of the gangsters only. This reflects complete collapse of law and order in Punjab,' he said in a Facebook post.
'Nobody feels safe. @AamAadmiParty has destroyed Punjab. We in @INCPunjab will not be intimidated. As @Sukhjinder_INC Sahab has said it simple and straight. But that does not mean @AAPPunjab government can run away from its responsibility. @BhagwantMann,' Warring added.
In a post on Facebook, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa also hit out at the 'total collapse of governance under Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal'.
'A jailed gangster openly threatening the family of a senior Punjab Congress leader, former Deputy Chief Minister, and current Member of Parliament — this is not just a failure of law and order, but a shameful example of total collapse of governance under Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal,' he said.
'If gangsters can intimidate elected representatives from behind bars, what must be the condition of the common people in Punjab? Is this the 'change' that the Aam Aadmi Party had promised — a state where criminals rule and citizens live in fear?' he added.
'Bhagwant Mann has turned Punjab into a playground for gangsters, while Arvind Kejriwal remains busy marketing false narratives. The truth is clear: under the Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab has become lawless,' Bajwa further said.
'As Sukhjinder Randhawa has said without mincing words — we stand firm. The Aam Aadmi Party government cannot distance itself from such incidents. Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal must answer to every citizen of Punjab who is now living in fear,' he added.
Bhagwanpuria was detained by the Narcotics Control Bureau under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in March and shifted from the central jail in Bathinda to Assam's Silchar jail. He was earlier in the custody of the Punjab Police in the 2022 Sidhu Moosewala murder case.

BJP MLAs Arvinder Singh Lovely and Raj Kumar Chauhan, who had switched to the party from Congress ahead of the Assembly elections in the Capital, have been appointed to key positions in the Delhi government. Lovely, the Gandhi Nagar MLA, has been named Chairman of the Trans-Yamuna Development Board, while Mangolpuri legislator Chauhan has been appointed the Chairman of the Village Development Board. It added that other members of DVDB will be nominated by the government. 'The function of the Board will be to advise the government on issues connected with the infrastructural development works in rural and urban villages of Delhi,' it further said. Both Lovely and Chauhan had previously served as ministers in the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government. The latest appointments are seen as a reward for their role in strengthening the BJP's campaign in the Assembly election. 'This was a much-awaited reward. Both leaders bring administrative experience and will play key roles in developmental initiatives and in the party's civic poll strategy,' said a senior BJP functionary. Officials said the nominations received approval from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta a few days ago. Lovely, who also served as the pro-tem Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, quit the Congress last May, citing disagreement with the party's decision to ally with AAP for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He had then joined the BJP for the second time and said: 'The last time I left Congress, it was in anger. This time, I did so with a cool head and after deep thought. Now, it's BJP or nothing—either we do politics here, or we don't do it at all.' Chauhan resigned from the Congress after being denied a ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Contesting on a BJP ticket from the Mangolpuri (SC) seat earlier this year, Chauhan emerged victorious. Punjab: PCA prez, 5 others to face trial for murder of liquor contractor's worker
A Faridkot court has framed charges of murder, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy against Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) president and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Amarjit Mehta and five others in a 2016 murder case. The charges were framed under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act. (HT File) The other accused include four Punjab Police personnel — sub-inspector Lachman Singh and constables Parminder Singh, Dharminder Singh and Kabal Singh — and liquor contractor Dharampal Singh Goel. All six are on bail. The charges were framed under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act. The trial will begin on August 8. Hearing the matter on July 30, the court of additional sessions judge Dinesh Kumar Wadhwa said from the material placed before the court, a prima facie case for an offence punishable under these sections was made out against the accused. The case pertains to the killing of kabaddi player Ajmer Singh, who worked for a liquor contractor in Faridkot, on May 25, 2016. According to the FIR, Ajmer was portrayed as a member of the Davinder Bambiha gang and killed in a police encounter that was allegedly in self-defence. Allegations against the accused Bathinda-based businessman Amarjit Mehta and his associate Dharampal Singh Goel, who was involved in the liquor business, had allegedly been pressuring liquor contractors in Faridkot to either sell their shares to them or divert their liquor quotas Ajmer and his brother Ranjit, both kabaddi players, reportedly worked for a rival liquor contractor. Ranjit, who was also later murdered, had alleged that Mehta, Goel and the police chased and killed Ajmer. In 2018, a judicial probe into the killing was initiated after Ajmer's mother Manjit Kaur filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The probe by the sub-divisional judicial magistrate of Jaitu found major inconsistencies in the police account, which it held were aimed at concealing the facts behind Ajmer's murder. What the police claimed The FIR filed on May 26, 2016, by then Jaitu SHO Lachman Singh stated that Ajmer, along with another armed man, opened fire on a night patrol team. In self-defence, a constable used his rifle and one of the gunshots hit Ajmer. The FIR stated that an SUV later arrived and took away the injured man. Ajmer's family, however, contested this, alleging that Mehta, Goel and the police officials chased and shot Ajmer dead. A murder FIR was subsequently registered on June 7, 2021. A special investigation team (SIT), led by DSP Jatsinder Singh, later again backed police's self-defence claim and recommended cancellation of the FIR. Ajmer's mother contested this and the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) rejected the cancellation report on July 30, 2024. The SDJM order also cited the judicial inquiry report, which found that the probe by DSP Jagdish Kumar Bishnoi was inadequate, raising suspicions that the probe was designed to protect the real culprits. The order mentioned that the police tortured Ajmer's brother Ranjit and filed false charges against him under the NDPS Act and Excise Act to pressure him. Ranjit was later acquitted in both cases. The SDJM order also noted that Ajmer's family was allegedly offered ₹35-40 lakh by SHO Lachman Singh to withdraw the case, and threatened when they refused.

Rahul will not only remove Modi but also protect the Constitution and uphold 42% reservations for OBCs by conducting a national caste census," he claimed.
