I bought a bunch of cheap dresses from Amazon for summer — one was a cut above the rest

Yahoo12 hours ago
My favourite one has more than 16,000 reviews.
Last year, I purged my closet and donated several dresses that no longer brought me joy. The best part about getting rid of stuff is that you feel less guilty about treating yourself to something new — it's simple math, really. When I set out to revamp my wardrobe, I wasn't looking to spend a fortune, so I took a look at some of Amazon's bestselling dresses for inspiration. I couldn't decide on just one, so I ended up adding six different styles to my cart. Everything I chose is under $50, so I figured, why not?
I was most excited about this corset dress, but did I love it when I tried it on? And what about this floral maxi dress? It has more than 16,000 reviews, but did it live up to the hype? Scroll below to see which Amazon dresses have earned a permanent place in my closet, whether for my next summer party or vacation.
What I bought: WEACZZY Summer Dress
What I like about it: The moment I tried this on, I knew it was a keeper. It falls right at the knee, and the soft spandex/rayon blend hugs my figure in all the right places. It's easy to dress up with a pair of heels and a stylish blazer or throw on over your bathing suit for a day at the beach. I ordered it in a small which was perfect as it fits true to size. The empire waist and pleats make it a great choice for when I'm feeling a bit bloated but still want to wear something cute.
Room for improvement: It does wrinkle and it's also a little sheerer than I thought, so you definitely want to be mindful of your undergarment selections when wearing.
What other shoppers are saying: This dress has an average rating of 4.1 stars from more than 980 reviews. Shoppers agree it's "true to size," "flattering," and say it "drapes beautifully."
What I bought: GRECERELLE V-Neck Maxi Dress
What I like about it: This maxi is a fun choice for a night out or a summer wedding. I like the sash, which gives it a bit more of a refined look. My favourite detail of the dress is the cute ruffled capped sleeves. The 95 per cent rayon fabric feels great on and doesn't cling to the body, which is perfect on those hot summer nights. I ordered this wrap dress in a small and it was a little big on me.
Room for improvement: This dress wrinkles so easily! For that reason alone I would hand wash it, anything to cut down on the wrinkles. Also, as it's shorter in the front, it does ride up a bit when you sit down, which I don't love.
What other shoppers are saying: Shoppers call this maxi "so comfortable" and say it's "flattering and forgiving." Another reviewer is impressed with how much "boob room" the dress provides, saying that if you are "chesty," this is the dress for you.
What I bought: Courecrop Midi Corset Dress
What I like about it: This cheap corset dress was the one I was most excited to order. The length is great, falling a little below the knee. The corset is surprisingly comfortable even when tied tight. This polyester dress is not stretchy and it runs true to size.
Room for improvement: I so wanted this dress to be a winner for me, but alas, it was far from it. I'm 5'5" with a short torso, and this dress didn't fall quite right on my frame. The slit up the front was also a little too high for my personal taste. I know I am slim, but the corset still didn't seem to do anything to "snatch" my waist.
What other shoppers are saying: One reviewer called this dress "very flattering," going on to say that the fabric is "light and flowy" and "perfect for summer." Another said that it "fits true to size" and is "amazing quality."
What I bought: MOLERANI Sleeveless Button-Down Dress
What I like about it: I could live in this soft and stretchy dress all year long. It falls rights below the knee, is easy to put on, and the front pockets are the best. The decorative brown buttons down the front? Perfection. I accidentally ordered a medium, and I'm glad I did. It fits great and the looser size is great for throwing on over my bathing suit or to run errands in the morning.
Room for improvement: As I mentioned, I accidentally ordered the medium, so it's a little baggy in the underarms, but I think if I had gotten the small, that wouldn't have been a problem.
What other shoppers are saying: "The dress fits great and is very comfortable," says one review. They also said the "soft" dress "feels good on." Another customer said that this "great" dress is "very forgiving," while another person called the dress "flattering" and "comfy."
What I bought: MOLERANI Maxi Dress with Pockets
What I like about it: This maxi dress is my top choice dress for casual comfort. I don't care what mood I am in; the second I put on this virtually wrinkle-free dress, I am revived. The hidden side pockets are great and I find myself reaching for this dress over others I own. It's flattering and runs true to size.
Room for improvement: I'm 5'5" and I ordered a small and it fell right at my ankles. I can imagine if I were any shorter the dress would be too long.
What other shoppers are saying: Dubbed the " most comfortable dress" by one shopper, the maxi has earned more than 16,000 reviews on Amazon. It's "beautifully made" and "true to size."
What I bought: Famulily V-Neck Puff Sleeve Dress
What I like about it: If you are looking for a low-maintenance dress that gives you a polished and professional look, this is it. The fabric doesn't wrinkle easily, and it's super easy to clean.
It's also great for travel. Just take it out of your suitcase and let it hang in the closet for a bit and voila, your dress is ready for a night on the town.
Room for improvement: The only reason I am not giving this dress five stars is that I wish it was a little longer. What can I say? Below the knee is my preferred length for warm-weather dresses. It also runs a little big. But this one still scores an A, just not an A+.
What other shoppers are saying: Of its 1,800+ reviews, 59 per cent of shoppers gave this knee-length dress a perfect five-star rating. One person said this "great dress" looks "just like the picture" and "fits true to size."
The verdict
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by all 6 of the Amazon spring and summer dresses that I tried — especially given their affordable price point. If you're thinking about buying — here's my ultimate ranking and reasoning:
1. MOLERANI Maxi Dress with Pockets: I'm obsessed with this wear-anywhere dress, which shoppers call the "most comfortable dress." It's versatile, flattering and fits true to size — but if you're on the shorter side, it may be a bit too long.
2. MOLERANI Sleeveless Button-Down Dress: Another slam dunk from MOLERANI! This little number is flattering and hits right below the knees, making it great for warm days. Shoppers say it's "very forgiving" and I'll be wearing it everywhere from backyard BBQs to the beach.
3. Famulily V-Neck Puff Sleeve Dress: This low-maintenance dress is polished and professional, and is also super easy to clean. The only downside? It's a bit short for me — but that definitely may just be personal preference.
4. WEACZZY Summer Dress: This sleek empire waist and pleats make it a great choice for a day when you're feeling casual but want to still want to look put-together. I do want to flag that it is a bit sheer, so you'll want to be mindful with your choice in undergarments.
5. GRECERELLE V-Neck Maxi Dress: This dress would be cute for a wedding or another event, but it wrinkles really easily. That combined with the fact that the front rides up when you sit down means I wouldn't recommend it for more than a couple wears.
6. Courecrop Midi Corset Dress: This one didn't do it for me at all — but again, personal preference. I found that the "corset" waist didn't do much to highlight my figure, and the front slit was a bit too high for my taste. I'd personally recommend skipping this one — but to each their own.

This Is the Summer of Celebrity It-Bag Revivals

In fashion, what goes around comes around—meaning, if something goes out of style, it is bound to come back in style at some point. In other words: Hang onto those investment pieces, folks! Sure, in a time where there are so many conversations around spring cleaning and decluttering (paging Marie Kondo!), one can easily be ruthless about parting ways with our relics of the past. But if today's trendsetters like Rihanna and Bella Hadid have taught us anything, it's that a little bit of strategic hoarding can come in handy. Because the only thing better than designer, is rare, vintage designer. Case in point: This summer, luxury bags from the 2000s (and even further back) are being revived and given a brand new life. A-listers like Tyla, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, and Dakota Johnson have all been spotted stepping out and carrying handbags that were once hot. Just this week, Tyla carried a Lous Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse Speedy bag. Y2K, much? The bright, bold graffiti-style bag was all of the rage in the 2000s, yet Tyla made the case for it in 2025 by pairing it with a nonchalant tank and cargo pants. The South African singer is not the only star on the board with reviving a past It-bag. Be it Dakota Johnson and her beloved Gucci Jackie bag (which harks back to the 1960s), to Bella Hadid and her trustee Balenciaga City bag (another 2000s favorite), it's clear that the summer bag approach is the older it is, the better it is. So, start scouring eBay—and try predicting what will be the next past handbag to have a comeback. (Given Céline just revived the 2010s-favorite Phantom bag on the runway, you better start hoarding those secondhand ones—while they are still cheap.) Below, five past It-bags that are having a revival. Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse When Marc Jacobs was at the creative helm of Louis Vuitton, one of his most famous releases was his collaboration handbags with American artist and designer, the late Stephen Sprouse. First released in the spring 2001 collection, Spouse applied neon graffiti-style lettering overtop Vuitton's signature leather monogram print. The splashy bags were heavily coveted and signalled a new era for daring to innovate beyond storied luxury house codes, and were worn by stars like Paris Hilton. Today, Tyla and Rihanna have proven they are still fans of the Y2K style. Photo: Backgrid Photo: Backgrid Chloé Paddington Chloé will forever be known for its romantic, boho-chic aesthetic, and one of its signature bags to date is the Paddington—a slouchy leather shoulder bag, punctuated with a big heavy padlock. The style was first debuted in 2005 while Phoebe Philo was creative director. Given the boho revival is all of the rage in fashion currently, it was only a matter of time before the Paddington had a comeback, too: Stars like Rachel Sennott and Daisy Edgar-Jones have worn the new interpretations, brought back to life thanks to current Chloé designer Chemena Kamali. Fendi Spy Bag I spy, you spy—we all spy the Fendi Spy bag! Originally debuted in 2005, the Italian label released a mini top-handle boho bag that was worn by loads of celebrities at the time—everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to the Olsen twins. Today, it feels just as fresh, now designed in contemporary shades like butter yellow and rich chocolate brown. Stars like PinkPantheress (a noted handbag lover, toting it on stages from Coachella to Glastonbury) and Aubrey Plaza are diehard fans. Photo: Backgrid Balenciaga City Bag Did the Balenciaga City bag ever go out of style? Debatable, but the enduring fashion favorite—first released in 2001, thanks to Nicolas Ghesquière—is certainly the hottest bag in fashion at the moment. Everyone from Dua Lipa to Tate McRae has worn the edgy, slouchy bag with big silver hardware. It will forever be the perfect on-the-go bag that instantly makes an outfit. Photo: Backgrid Gucci Jackie bag A more retro offering, the Gucci Jackie bag was debuted back in 1961, and was popularized by Jackie Kennedy Onassis (hence the name). More than six decades later, the curved silhouette and golden lock clasp feels fresher than ever—though, the modern styling approaches that stars like Dakota Johnson and Yara Shahidi have taken certainly help make the case for it as a 2025 It bag.

Scottie Scheffler family tree: Meet wife Meredith, parents, more to know about star golfer's roots

Scottie Scheffler has ascended to a level that few other professional golfers have before. His three majors wins, including two at The Masters, can only be matched by some of the sport's most well-known stars, and he just keeps going. Each time a major comes around, it's become an expectation that Scheffler will be in contention. When he does come out on top, the American star can often be seen celebrating with his family, including his wife and young son. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp From Scheffler's high school sweetheart, to his New Jersey-native parents, here's everything to know about those closest to the star golfer. MORE:Complete list of U.S. Open winners and payouts throughout history Scottie Scheffler wife: Meredith Scudder Long before Scottie Scheffler became world No. 1 in golf, he met his future wife, Meredith Scudder, in high school. Both being from Dallas, they began dating their senior year at Highland Park High School. "I had to woo her for a few years," Scheffler said with a laugh in 2023. While they met in high school, the couple spent some time apart in college. While Meredith attended Texas A&M, Scottie Scheffler went to the University of Texas, and they dated from a distance for all four years. 'At the beginning of high school I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn't take himself too seriously,' Meredith told Golf Digest of Scottie. 'Even when he had amazing accomplishments, that wasn't the most important thing about him.' The couple got married in December 2020. Photos from the wedding can be seen in Scheffler's 2023 anniversary Instagram post: Meredith is also in charge of curating opportunities for Behind Every Door (BED), a faith-based nonprofit which provides sport, educational and creative programs for youth in underdeveloped neighborhoods in the Dallas area. "I believe everyone has unique gifting. I love being part of an organization that is showing kids their giftings and giving them a chance to not only discover those gifts but see who God created them to be," Scudder told Veritex Community Bank for Essential Golf. Meredith can often be seen supporting Scottie Scheffler at his tournaments, whether walking the course with him or celebrating his wins. Scottie Scheffler son: Bennett Scheffler Scottie and Meredith Scheffler welcomed a son, Bennett, in May 2024. "Welcome to the world little one," Scheffler wrote in an Instagram post. "Your mom & dad love you so much." "I can't really describe the feeling of dreaming of just coming and playing on the PGA Tour, to be sitting at home with the girl I dated in high school with our child and then the Green Jacket sitting in the closet is a pretty insane feeling, and I just wanted to be as thankful as possible," Scheffler said after his son was born, per National Club Golfer. MORE:Every British Open winner in history, from Rory McIlroy to Tiger Woods Scottie Scheffler mother: Diane Scheffler Scheffler's mother is Diane Scheffler, who grew up in Park Ridge, New Jersey. Until Scheffler was six years old, the family lived in New Jersey, where his father is also from. They later moved to Dallas. Scheffler said in 2023 that growing up, his mom was the one "who was working and supporting our family financially, which I would say is a little bit different." She worked as a business manager at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Affiliates in the 1980s, according to People, then later became a Chief Operating Officer at various law firms, including Thompson & Knight LLP, Troutman Sanders LLP and Foley Hoag LLP. Currently, she is a consultant for Scout's East Coast Ranch in New York City. In his 2024 Masters speech, Scheffler thanked both of his parents. "To my parents, thank you for taking me to way too many golf tournaments as a kid. I love y'all both very much," he said. "I can't put into words what it means to have your support out here, win or lose. I love y'all." Scottie Scheffler father: Scott Scheffler Scheffler's father, Scott Scheffler, is from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. He was a carpenter and stay-at-home dad throughout Scottie's youth, and he played a role in the star golfer's interest in the sport as a kid, including taking him to the driving range and with Diane, eventually getting Scottie access to Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas. Because of Diane's job, Scott was often the one at home, which Scottie told AP in 2022 that he "didn't know any different." "It's just what you do as a father for your children ... I've done for all of them. They've given us great joy," Scott Scheffler told AP in 2022. "[Scottie's] the one that did all the hard work, not me. I just raised him and tried the best I could to be a good dad.' Scott Scheffler, who often watches his sons tournaments in-person alongside Diane, has spoken of his son's accomplishments plenty of times in the past. 'I used to wonder, 'Can Scottie really be that good at his craft, at the game of golf?' And he is. He truly has been given a gift and he uses it," Scott told the New York Post in April 2023. "It does surprise me ... He's my child. He's my son. Sometimes you just say to yourself, 'Wow.' ' MORE:Why is the Masters always at Augusta National? Scottie Scheffler sisters: Callie, Molly, and Sara Scheffler has three sisters, the oldest of whom is Callie. She was born in 1994, while Scottie was born in 1996. '[Callie] was the classic first child. She felt a responsibility to look after her younger brother when she caddied for him in all those big junior tournaments," Scottie's manager, Rocky Hambric, told Power Fades of Callie and Scottie in April 2023. When Scottie competed in the 2016 U.S. Open as an amateur, Callie was his caddie. She played collegiate golf at Texas A&M, and Callie now has two children with her husband, Andrew. Diane and Scott also welcomed two more daughters, Molly and Sara. Molly, who also went to Texas A&M, now works for the PGA Tour as a communications specialist, per her LinkedIn. More specifically, she currently works in "Player & Agent Communications." Sara, like Scottie, graduated from the University of Texas and recently got married.
