Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show brings show jumping back to the city
Inspired by the London International Horse Show, which launched in 1907, this elite event aims to establish itself as an annual fixture in Hong Kong's sporting calendar, and expects to attract more than 25,000 visitors from home and overseas. The three-day programme will feature a series of high-profile competitions, including a 5-Star International Showjumping event, one of the most prestigious classifications in equestrian sports, where more than 30 top-tier international show jumpers such as Scott Brash and Max Kühner will compete alongside local talents including Clarissa Lyra and Patrick Lam , vying for a prize pool of about HK$6.5 million. A total of 70 horses will be flown in to take part.
In addition to the main events, there will be plenty to keep fanatics on the edge of their saddles, including dressage exhibitions and the much-anticipated Shetland Pony Grand National, where the diminutive ponies will race over miniature brush obstacles.
For a dose of four-legged theatre, Spanish equestrian artist Santi Serra will convince the audience of his horse-whispering abilities as he coaxes his four Arabian horses into a precise dance routine without saddle or bridle.
As with any major event in Hong Kong, retail therapy is part of the equation. More than 100 booths covering fashion, food, homeware and, of course, equestrian goods will be bolstered by rider interviews, hobby-horse riding for children and up-close viewing of the warm-up ring, where riders can be found exercising their horses before each competition round.

Anime and comic fans, gaming enthusiasts, and cosplayers are flocking to the 26th edition of Ani-com & Games Hong Kong (ACGHK) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), which runs until Tuesday. Dozens of people lined up outside the halls from early morning on Friday, hours before the doors opened at 10am. On the other side of the hall doors, photographers and video journalists set up their cameras to capture the moment the first attendee entered the hall. The first person to step through the door this year was from Macau, local media reported. As in previous years, the first attendee spun 360 degrees as he entered the venue, with a group of reporters following him to his first stop at the event. A steady trickle of attendees followed. Some ran across the hall to get a head start in the lines, possibly to secure access to exclusive products. By midday, the crowds became increasingly bigger. The city's Financial Secretary Paul Chan visited the expo on Sunday, taking photos with various cosplayers, according to his Facebook post. First held in 1999, the summer mega event attracts thousands of cosplayers, comic, anime and gaming enthusiasts every year. This year's event featured around 160 exhibitors, up from over 140 in 2024. The venue space for the five-day event expanded this year, with 788 booths exhibiting in halls 1 and 3 of the HKCEC. General admission ticket prices also increased to HK$45, from HK$42 last year. Running concurrently are the Hong Kong International Art Toys Expo, with over 40 renowned art toy designers from around the world exhibiting, as well as the International Comic Masters Gathering (CMG) and the International Comics Exhibition. Many ACGHK attendees on Friday carried large bags of their purchases and took selfies and photos with cosplayers. In 2022, the organiser of the convention introduced new guidelines for cosplayers' attire, calling on female cosplayers to avoid showing their underboob and wearing stockings that revealed 'too much skin,' while male cosplayers were told their bottom costume must be 'larger than briefs.'

More than half of the proceeds will fund the transformation of certain areas in eight public hospitals, while the remainder supports broader youth development programmes. At Tuen Mun Hospital, a beneficiary, Managing Director Michael Moriarty said on Saturday the multi-phase project would elevate the in-hospital experience for child patients. Tuen Mun Hospital pioneered the initiative in early July with immersive Disney murals and a mobile movie theatre. "This marks a meaningful new chapter in our journey, growing our legacy of care, bringing comfort to young patients and creating moments of joy where they're needed the most," Moriarty said. "I'd like to thank the committed staff here at Tuen Mun Hospital, our passionate volunteers and cast members, and everyone who supports being behind the scenes to make a dream like this come true." "Every small act counts and when you see the smiles on the faces of these children it's worth all the effort that goes into bringing these ideas to life." Hospital Authority Chairman Henry Fan highlighted the initiative's alignment with patient-centred care, stating that the revitalised environments would ease anxiety for young patients and their families during waiting times, enhancing their overall experience. The impact resonated with 12-year-old anemia patient, An Yu, who expressed excitement after seeing the brand-new hospital environment for the first time. "I visited the hospital every few months for follow-up since I was a child. I used to be nervous while waiting. The refurbished waiting area is now totally different. The whole place is so colourful with murals of many Disney characters. It made me so happy and relaxed," she said.
