Provided you were born of course, 24 June 1995 will forever stick in the memory bank as Francois Pienaar accepted the trophy from Nelson Mandela following a nail-biting extra-time victory over the All Blacks.
Personally, I watched the match at friend's house then headed to that infamous watering hole in Claremont called 'Green Man' (remember it?) where they rescreened the Test. We drank beer, we drank more beer, and then around 05:00 the next morning they kicked us out.
There are also vague recollections of street lights being climbed and flags stolen along Main Road in Rondebosch, but that might just have been the beer talking …

On this day 30 years ago Joel Stransky landed an extra-time drop goal as the Springboks beat the All Blacks 15-12 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
It was the first of a record four Rugby World Cup titles for the Springboks, who would go on to win the 2007 World Cup in France under captain John Smit and coach Jake White, the 2019 edition in Japan with Siya Kolisi and Rassie Erasmus as skipper and coach, respectively, as well as the 2023 tournament in France with Kolisi and Jacques Nienaber at the helm.
Anyone betting against the Springboks making it a hat-trick of titles – and five overall – in 2027 in Australia?
That day – Saturday, 24 June 1995 – remains arguably the greatest ever sporting occasion in South Africa's history.

History The Boks and Italy have met 16 times, with the South Africans enjoying a 15-1 record against the Italians. The first meeting between the teams took place on 12 November 1995 in Rome, when the Boks, then also newly crowned world champions, won 40-21. The Boks have scored 764 points in total in these 16 meetings, while Italy have scored 195. The Boks have scored 102 tries to Italy's 16. The biggest winning score is 101-0 to the Boks, recorded in Durban in June 1999. Italy's only triumph The Italians have beaten the current world champions only once, in Florence on 19 November 2016. On that day Italy won 20-18 to shock the rugby world. The Boks' tries were scored by Bryan Habana, in his 124th Test, and Damian de Allende, with Pat Lambie kicking a conversion and a penalty, while Elton Jantjies also slotted a penalty. Coach Allister Coetzee's Bok team on the day included Willie le Roux at fullback, Damian de Allende at inside centre, Rudy Paige at scrumhalf, Warren Whiteley at eighthman, Lood de Jager at No 5 lock, Pieter-Steph du Toit at number 4 lock, Vincent Koch at tighthead and Adriaan Strauss at hooker, and the captain. Matches in South Africa The Boks have played Italy seven times in South Africa, but this will be the first Test between the sides at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, where the hosts have a 78% win record overall (32 wins from 41 Tests). British and Irish Lions send shock SOS to Owen Farrell
Owen Farrell received a shock British and Irish Lions call up Thursday after utility back Elliot Daly was ruled out of their Australia tour, with his father, head coach Andy Farrell, citing experience in defending the decision. The 33-year-old former England captain, a three-time Lions tourist, earned the last of his 112 Test caps at the 2023 World Cup and has not played any rugby for nearly nine weeks after suffering a concussion. But the flyhalf is a proven international performer and his father said the call-up was justified. 'When you look at the experience that Elliot's had, I mean the experience isn't just the playing side, it's how you make the group feel, the little chats that you have around the place to make sure that everything's gelled together,' he said. 'And obviously Owen would bring a lot of that into the group.' While Finn Russell is the clear favourite to start the three-Test series against the Wallabies at flyhalf, Owen Farrell can also operate in the centre and has a trusty boot for goal-kicking. But his call-up is a surprise with the Lions having plenty of options in the backs and the likes of Scotland's Tom Jordan and Wales' Blair Murray also seen as in the running as replacements. 'Well, he's fit otherwise he wouldn't be picked,' said Farrell when asked about his son's lack of recent rugby after an injury-plagued season with Racing 92. But Josephs, who spent five years at Pirates and also played at the 2010 World Cup in the country, has voiced his concerns about Mofokeng moving to Israel.
