Bhubaneswar/Koraput: The state vigilance directorate on Monday discovered 84 acres of land, allegedly acquired through corrupt means by a govt official, Dayanidhi Bagh, at different places in the state.
The anti-corruption wing's official statement confirms this "as the largest land detection" in a disproportionate assets (DA) case in vigilance history.
The vigilance technical wing is currently assessing these properties' value. On Monday, several teams conducted property searches linked to Bagh in Bhubaneswar, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi, investigating claims of substantial illegal asset accumulation.
"The record 84 acre land findings include a farmhouse spanning 40 acres in Bijraguda, Nabarangpur, equipped with drip irrigation and farming equipment investment worth Rs 1 crore.
Additionally, a six-acre farmhouse in Phatakote, Nabarangpur, also featuring drip irrigation, was discovered," a senior vigilance official said.
Investigators also located 27 acres in Nabarangpur district and 11 acres near Bhabanipatna in Kalahandi district.

Vigilance sources indicate that the previous record holder was Pravas Kumar Pradhan, former chief construction engineer of Anandpur barrage project in Keonjhar. In Aug 2024, the vigilance officials arrested him for owning 105 plots (85 in Odisha, 20 in West Bengal), totalling about 15 acres.
The investigation revealed Bagh and his family owned two multi-storey buildings, one 3-BHK flat in Bhubaneswar, 312 grams of gold, Rs 58 lakh in bank/insurance deposits, and an undisclosed car. This investigation stems from an earlier case where four watershed office officials in Rayagada were arrested on May 22 for allegedly misappropriating over Rs 20 lakh allocated for 23 farm ponds under the MGNREGS scheme in Kashipur block.
"As Bagh was the Watershed project director at that time in Rayagada district, he came under the vigilance scanner," read the vigilance statement. Bagh has been detained for questioning.

Forest minister orders audit of tiger deaths in Karnataka over past 5 years
Bengaluru: Following the poisoning of five tigers at MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, forest minister Eshwar Khandre on Tuesday ordered an audit of tiger mortality in various tiger reserves (national parks) and wildlife sanctuaries of Karnataka. Delving into the activities of the wildlife wing, shortly after sending errant forest officials of MM Hills sanctuary on compulsory leave, the minister sought within 10 days a complete review of tiger deaths over the past five and a half years. As per the All-India Tiger Estimation report of 2022, Karnataka stood second in the country in tiger population, with 563 tigers in five reserves. However, subsequent surveys of big cats reduced these numbers to 408 in 2023 and 393 in 2024. Further, reports based on the tiger mortality details available with the National Tiger Conservation Authority revealed the death of 82 tigers in Karnataka over the past 5.5 years. Shocked by the alarming number of tiger deaths in the state, long known for its conservation practices, Khandre has directed both the additional chief secretary of forests, environment and ecology department and the principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) to review the 82 deaths. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo In his letter to the bureaucrats, he wrote: "Enumerate how many of these 82 tigers died natural deaths and how many met with unnatural deaths and the reasons for the unnatural deaths. Noting lapses on the part of foresters, as acknowledged in the MM Hills case, the minister also questioned whether the department has initiated action against any official held guilty in any tiger mortality case, besides demanding details of the conviction rate in unnatural death cases. Nod for Palar checkpost After drawing criticism for ignoring the pleas of Chamarajanagar police to set up separate checkposts along the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border at Palar, the forest department has finally given approval to construct a checkpost. TOI had reported on the department's silence over the checkpost plea of the Chamarajanagar SP. The outgoing chief wildlife warden, Subhash Malkhede, on Monday approved the request to sanction 15x15 land within MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary at the intersection of Palar and Gopinatham near Palar bridge. UP Board introduces online attendance for teachers, students
1 2 Prayagraj: The UP Board on Tuesday implemented an online attendance system for both teachers and students of all govt, aided and private secondary schools across the state to ensure transparency and efficient monitoring. The move is part of the Yogi Adityanath govt's ongoing efforts to incorporate technology and innovation into the educational sector to improve governance and outcomes. This new system enables real-time tracking of attendance through a dedicated portal developed by the board. The initiative covers 29,183 schools, including 2,547 govt, 4,522 aided and 22,114 non-aided private schools. The UP Board designed a specialised online platform to facilitate this process, accessible via the link ( Board officials said school principals must log into the portal using a secure username, password, and security code. Upon logging in, they access a dashboard displaying class-wise sections along with lists of registered students. The attendance can be marked under three categories — present, absent, and leave — with an obligatory reason to be entered for any leave marked. Similarly, the attendance for teachers is recorded using the same portal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The attendance marking is required to be completed once daily by 11am, rather than tracking entry and exit times. This streamlined approach ensures uniformity and ease of use across the large number of institutions. Board secretary Bhagwati Singh said: "The daily attendance data submitted online allows for real-time monitoring at the board level. This will greatly enhance transparency within schools and help curb fraudulent enrolments. The system assists officials in closely monitoring dropout rates and the teacher-to-student ratio, both critical indicators of educational quality." Principals in Prayagraj have welcomed the move and underscored its potential to improve discipline and learning outcomes. Principal of KP Inter College Yogendra Singh said making attendance mandatory through this system will encourage students to attend regularly. "When more students attend classes consistently, teachers will be motivated to engage more deeply with their teaching and assign relevant homework," he added. Similarly, KK Prasad, principal of CAV Inter College, said: "Regular attendance is vital for an effective learning process, and this digital system will support sustained classroom participation by students."
