BCCI is enforcing strict guidelines for IPL trophy parades after the Bengaluru stampede that killed 11. Celebrations need prior clearance and multi-layered security.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in the process of implementing strict guidelines for IPL trophy parades and celebrations in the wake of the Bengaluru stampede that took the lives of 11 people and left several others injured last month.
Thousands had gathered outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)'s maiden title win, just hours after they beat Punjab Kings in the final. Multiple events being held at the same time, and a lack of infrastructural readiness, led to one of India's biggest sporting disasters this century.
The BCCI had initially distanced itself from the tragedy, saying it had no role in it, and then formed a three-member committee led by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, with vice-president Rajeev Shukla and treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as members. India Today quoted Saikia as saying that the board was 'taking every aspect of risk very seriously to avoid any future mishaps.'
The report included a list of guidelines that, according to Saikia, would now be mandatory for all IPL franchises wanting to celebrate a win. These disbar teams from holding celebrations within three to four days of winning the title, and strictly prohibit quick turnarounds or rushed celebrations.
All events will now require prior and written clearance from the BCCI, and formal approval from district police, state governments, and local civic authorities. Further, teams will have to ensure multi-layered security at all venues and during the transit of players and staff, with coverage spanning from the airport to the event venue.
The Karnataka government has already proposed a new crowd management bill, which holds event managers responsible and imposes fines and upto three years of imprisonment.
'Four bills were proposed today — Karnataka crowd control, managing crowd at events and venue of mass gathering Bill, 2025; Karnataka Rohith Vemula Bill, 2025; Karnataka misinformation, fake news prohibition Bill, 2025; Karnataka hate speech and hate crimes prevention Bill, 2025," Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil told reporters on June 19.
'These Bills were proposed at the meeting today. I mentioned that on some Bills there is a need for a detailed discussion. It has been decided that before the next cabinet meeting, concerned ministers will meet and discuss and bring the Bills before the cabinet," he added.

'Wanted To Step Down After 2023 World Cup..': Rohit Reveals Talk With Dravid

Rohit Sharma revealed that he persuaded Rahul Dravid to stay on as coach after India's 2023 World Cup defeat. India ODI captain Rohit Sharma revealed in a recent interview that he told then-head coach Rahul Dravid after losing to Australia in the final of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in Ahmedabad. Despite remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament, India failed to secure the title against the Pat Cummins-led team at Narendra Modi Stadium. Following India's defeat, Dravid expressed his desire to step down from his coaching role. However, Rohit Sharma, the then skipper, persuaded Dravid to stay on until the T20 World Cup 2024. On the anniversary of India's T20 World Cup victory, Rohit recalled his discussion with Dravid. He said, 'Rahul bhai wanted to step down after the 2023 World Cup. But we said, 'There's another World Cup in six months. We've come this far. Let's give it one more shot.' He agreed-and I'm so glad he did. I'm sure even now he feels that he made the right decision," Rohit was quoted as saying in an interview with JioHotstar. Dravid's last assignment as India's head coach ended up being the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa, where India defeated the Proteas by seven runs to win the title. What Rohit Said About T20 World Cup? Rohit also expressed his pride in finally lifting an ICC title as captain in Barbados, calling it the proudest moment of his career. 'For me personally, it was also emotional. My identity as a cricketer began with this format in the 2007 T20 World Cup. To come full circle and lift the trophy again in 2024-it was just fantastic," Rohit said. 'Barbados will forever be in my veins. This is the proudest moment of my cricketing career. To lift that trophy, to be crowned ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Champions-it was surreal. I played in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup and we won under MS Dhoni 's captaincy. And now, to win it again with Rahul Dravid as head coach-it meant everything to this group. We've seen heartbreak. We've come so close. That's why this one was so special. We worked and planned relentlessly every day. And when we finally won, all the emotions came pouring out. The younger players, especially those playing their first World Cup, realised how hard it is to win one. Nothing can be taken for granted. It was magical." After India's T20 World Cup win, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the shortest format of the game, and the BCCI appointed Suryakumar Yadav as Rohit's successor to lead India in T20Is. Following Rahul Dravid, the BCCI appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of Team India. First Published: June 29, 2025, 19:08 IST

Will I ever play again? Rishabh Pant's surgeon recalls rehab process after accident

Rishabh Pant's surgeon, Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala recollected the rehabilitation made by the Indian wicketkeeper as he made a full recovery after being involved in a car accident. Pant was involved in the horrific incident in December 2022 while he was heading to his hometown from Delhi as his car hit a divider, leaving the wicketkeeper in a critical had his right knee dislocated along with many other injuries, which saw him be out of the game for around 16 months. Speaking to the Telegraph, Pardiwala said that Pant was extremely lucky to be alive and not lose the blood flow to his right leg, given the injuries he be in an accident like this, where the car actually overturns and blows up, the risk of death is extremely high," said Pardiwala "When your knee dislocates, and all the ligaments break, there's a high possibility of the nerve or the main blood vessel also being injured. If the blood vessel gets injured, you typically have about four to six hours to restore the blood supply."Otherwise, there's a risk of losing your limb. The fact that his blood vessel wasn't injured despite having a severe high-velocity knee dislocation was extremely lucky," said Pardiwala.'Am I ever going to play again?'Pardiwala said that the first question Pant had when he came to the hospital was,"Am I ever going to be able to play again?"The surgeon said that Pant needed a full reconstruction of the right knee given the extent of the injuries he had a lengthy discussion about the fact that these are grievous injuries – we would need to reconstruct the entire knee. Once we reconstruct the entire knee, we're going to have to then work through a whole process of letting it heal, letting it recover, then get back the basic functions – the range, the strength and the stability," said Pant was making progress after the surgery, Dr. Pardiwala was sceptical of his chances of making a comeback to the field. The surgeon said that he was keeping things straightforward with Pant and to take it one step at a time."Typically, when we reconstruct these patients they are happy just to get back to normal life. If they can walk and do some minimal amount of recreational sports, they're happy. I said: 'We can certainly make sure that he walks again. I'm going to try my best to make sure that we can get him back to playing again.' We didn't really want to offer him too much initially, but we did want to give him hope. So I said: 'We'll break it down into steps.' Step one, of course, has to be the surgery."'When we discussed it just after the surgery, the way I told him is the fact you're alive, the fact that your limbs survived – that's two miracles down. If we get you back to competitive cricket, that's going to be a third miracle. Let's just hope for everything, and then take it a step at a time," said magical return to the fieldadvertisementPant made his return to the cricket field in IPL 2024 and scored 446 runs in 13 matches. This earned him a call-up to India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, which went on to win the title. Pant also made a fantastic return to the Test arena, where he became India's new vice-captain ahead of the England the first Test, Pant became only the second wicketkeeper to score twin centuries in a single game.- EndsMust Watch

Shubman Gill behind Harpreet Brar's surprising appearance during India's training session as captain's 'text' revealed

India's training session ahead of the second Test against England at Edgbaston had a surprise visitor: left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar. The Punjab Kings bowler, who impressed in IPL 2025 as the side reached the final of the season, was spotted bowling to Indian batters in Birmingham, just days before the July 2 clash. While Brar is not part of the official Test squad, he was invited as a guest net bowler at the request of India captain Shubman Gill. Shubman Gill (L) texted Harpreet Brar to train with the Indian Test team(PTI/BCCI) India endured a tough defeat against England in the opening Test of the series in Leeds. The side had flown with two spinners in Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, with another all-rounder in Washington Sundar. Hence, it may be possible that Gill's invitation to Brar was part of a tactical call to have the Indian batters train against spinners. The BCCI shared a video confirming the circumstances of Brar's appearance. In it, the 29-year-old revealed that he had been staying in Swindon, where his wife is from, when he got a message from Gill. 'My wife is from Swindon. And it's quite close to Birmingham, it's a 1-1.5 hour drive. I was talking to Shubman (Gill). He texted me yesterday, so I said, Okay, let's go and practice here,' Brar said. Alongside Brar, pacer Jagjit Singh Sandhu from Chandigarh also bowled in the nets, another indicator of India's intention to refine their preparations ahead of the critical second Test. Bowling attack under fire India's bowling unit is under the spotlight after the Headingley defeat, where England chased down 371 with five wickets in hand. Although Jasprit Bumrah took a five-for in the first innings, he looked less threatening in the second. The supporting pace attack lacked discipline, and Ravindra Jadeja, the lone frontline spinner, managed just a solitary wicket in the match. The poor returns have prompted discussions around personnel changes. Kuldeep Yadav could be considered to add variety and bite to the spin attack. Further complicating India's plans is Bumrah's fitness workload. As per his management strategy, the India skipper is expected to be rested for one or more matches this series, and Edgbaston could be on that list.
