61 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 61?

USA Today2 days ago
The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast.
Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 61 since the inaugural season in 2002.
Texans players to wear No. 61
No. 63 currently belongs to no one entering the upcoming season. That doesn't mean someone won't wear it this year, but it would likely come after roster cutdowns with a new addition off waivers. Even then, it would likely be an offensive lineman who'd come in to backup and compete for a roster spot, if not be on the practice squad.
Let's look back at who has worn the No. 63 in recent memory to sort out the G.O.A.T. for an offensive lineman.
Best Player: No one
At this point in the series, No. 61 is the least worn number in franchise history. While four players wore it over the 20 seasons, no one held the record for the longest tenure, which lasted only 16 games. Cannon, who spent a decade in New England, spent the majority of his time with the Texans on the IR. And Weary switched numbers after the inaugural season in 2002.
Can anyone come up with a reason as to why X person belongs with the G.O.A.T. status next to their name? No? I didn't think so.

49ers WR Demarcus Robinson pleads no contest to misdemeanor DUI after allegedly driving more than 100 mph while under the influence

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge on Wednesday after police say he was driving more than 100 mph while under the influence of alcohol. Per the Orange County Register, citing the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, Robinson was sentenced to three years probation and assessed a $390 fine. He's required to complete a series of programs including a hospital and morgue program and a three-month alcohol program. He's prohibited from driving while under the influence of any measurable trace of alcohol. He will not serve jail time. Advertisement As part of his plea, separate charges of driving with a .08% blood-alcohol content or higher and driving without a valid license were dismissed, his attorney, Jacqueline Sparagna told the Register. The plea stems from a Nov. 25 arrest in the Los Angeles suburb of Woodland Hills when Robinson was a member of the Rams. California Highway Patrol officers say they observed a white Dodge sedan driving more than 100 mph on Highway 101 around 5:13 a.m. on a Monday. Per a CHP statement, Robinson was driving the car and identified himself after officers pulled him over. According to the statement, Robinson demonstrated 'objective signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment." The arrest took place the morning after a Rams home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, a game in which Robinson caught a touchdown pass. "I don't want to bring that type of light, or any type of negative energy, toward the team," Robinson said. "Things like that are not natural for me, in my nature, stuff I usually do.' Robinson was formally charged with DUI in January. Robinson played out the season with the Rams and finished with 505 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while playing in all 17 regular-season games. He signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract to join the 49ers in the offseason.

Rebecca Allen pours in a season-high 27 points in the Chicago Sky's 87-76 win over the Dallas Wings

Rebecca Allen made five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 27 points to help the Chicago Sky beat the short-handed Dallas Wings 87-76 on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena. Angel Reese finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds — her 13th double-double this season — and Rachel Banham had 11 points for the Sky (6-13). Li Yueru had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Wings (6-15). Rookie All-Star Paige Bueckers added 17 points on 5-of-20 shooting and JJ Quinerly scored 16. Allen hit two 3-pointers and a long jumper to cap a 13-2 run that gave the Sky the lead for good and made it 67-57 with 2 minutes, 20 seconds left in the third quarter. Quinerly made a free throw to make it a six-point game with 3:37 remaining, but Reese made a layup, grabbed a rebound on the other end and then converted a three-point play to seal the win. The Sky, who beat the Wings 97-92 on May 29 and 94-83 on May 31, swept the season series. DiJonai Carrington (rib), Arike Ogunbowale (thumb), Maddy Siegrist (knee) and Tyasha Harris (knee) did not play for the Wings. The Sky retired Allie Quigley's No. 14 jersey at halftime. A three-time WNBA All-Star, Quigley grew up in nearby Joliet, played collegiately at DePaul and spent 10 seasons with the Sky, helping the organization to its first title in 2021. Hers is the first jersey retired by the Sky. The Sky play host to Minnesota on Saturday. The Wings play the last of three consecutive road games Sunday at Indiana.
