Liam Neeson stars in ‘The Naked Gun' reboot: Trailer, release date, and first look

Express Tribune03-04-2025
Paramount has officially released the first trailer for the highly anticipated The Naked Gun reboot, starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's iconic detective from the original franchise.
Directed by Akiva Schaffer (The Lonely Island), the reboot blends absurdist comedy, high-energy action, and nostalgic humor, including a nod to O.J. Simpson from the original trilogy.
The trailer, unveiled at CinemaCon 2025, showcases Neeson's comedic transformation, including a scene where he disguises himself as a schoolgirl with a lollipop before taking down a gang of criminals. Fans can expect a fresh take on the 1988 cult classic, which was celebrated for its over-the-top humor and slapstick action.
Produced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) and Erica Huggins, the film follows in the footsteps of the original trilogy, which includes The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991), and Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994).
Originally planned as a reboot starring Ed Helms, the project has been in development since 2013. In 2021, McFarlane took over to rework the film, leading to its current iteration. The Naked Gun reboot is set to hit theaters nationwide on August 1, 2025.

Pamela Anderson kisses Liam Neeson on red carpet following his comments on working with her

Pamela Anderson kissed Liam Neeson on the cheek at the London premiere of The Naked Gun, following his previous comments about working with her on the upcoming film. Anderson wore a deep purple strapless Rodarte gown, while Neeson attended in a grey suit with a black shirt. The two posed together on the red carpet, with Neeson wrapping his arm around Anderson as she leaned in for the kiss. In October, Neeson shared his experience working with Anderson on the comedy, telling People, 'With Pamela, first off, I'm madly in love with her. She's just terrific to work with. I can't compliment her enough, I'll be honest with you.' He added, 'She just comes in to do the work. She's funny and so easy to work with,' describing her as someone without a 'huge ego.' Anderson also spoke about working with Neeson, calling him 'the perfect gentleman'. She said, 'He brings out the best in you … with respect, kindness and depth of experience. It was an absolute honour to work with him.' Anderson shared that she would bake bread and cookies for Neeson and leave them in his dressing room, while Neeson would look after her during filming. '[He] sincerely looked after me — wrapped his coat around me when I was cold,' Anderson said. The Naked Gun, starring Anderson and Neeson, is scheduled for release on August 1.

South Park season 27 premiere skewers Donald Trump with bold satire

South Park returned to Comedy Central on July 23, 2025, with the premiere of its 27th season. The episode, titled 'Sermon on the 'Mount,' directly targets former US President Donald Trump in a surreal blend of animation and AI-generated visuals. In the episode, a miniaturized, Canadian-animated version of Trump, voiced by series co-creator Trey Parker, shares a bed with Satan. -Comedy Central The exaggerated storyline also shows Trump suing the town of South Park for $5 billion. Later, a lifelike, AI-generated version of Trump appears nude in a desert-themed public service announcement, adding to the episode's shock value. The episode aired shortly after Paramount secured a five-year, multi-billion-dollar deal with the show's creators to produce 50 new episodes, following a brief delay linked to corporate negotiations and legal settlements. Beyond the satire, the premiere reflects South Park's ongoing mission to address real-world political and media dynamics in provocative and often controversial ways. The episode also nods to the show's evolving animation style, blending traditional 2D visuals with live-action and AI elements. Following its television debut, the episode was made available for streaming on Paramount+. Fan reactions have ranged from praise for its boldness to criticism of its shock tactics, reinforcing South Park's reputation as a cultural lightning rod nearly three decades after its debut.

Pamela Anderson opens up about career reset in Naked Gun reboot

At the UK premiere of The Naked Gun reboot on July 22, Pamela Anderson, 58, described her new role as a creative rebirth: "I feel like I've just started my career now." The film marks her return to mainstream comedy, with Anderson playing femme fatale Beth Davenport alongside Liam Neeson, her first major on-camera role since her Golden Globe nominated performance in The Last Showgirl. Anderson shared that she nearly missed the opportunity to audition, as her former agent initially declined to send her the script, until director Gia Coppola intervened by sending it through one of Anderson's sons. She said the unexpected chance to portray a complex character in a comedic setting still 'has me really excited.' Her co-star Liam Neeson praised her presence and professionalism: 'I can't compliment her enough … no huge ego. She's funny and so easy to work with. She's going to be terrific in the film.' Anderson described their collaboration as meaningful, noting a genuine connection: 'I think I have a friend forever in Liam. We definitely have a connection that is very sincere, very loving.' This role follows Anderson's acclaimed performance in The Last Showgirl, which earned her a Golden Globe nod and helped shift perceptions of her beyond the Baywatch image. At this stage in her career, Anderson says she's 'just really excited to be such a part of this and to play a real character.'
