Popular MSNBC Host Has Met With Rival Stations And Is Pondering Exit: Report

Yahoo28-05-2025
Ari Melber, the host of one of MSNBC's highest-rated programs, has met with rival networks and is 'in discussions' to leave, Breaker reported Tuesday.
The outlet cited two people familiar with the matter, noting that Melber is also deciding whether to launch his own startup.
Melber has hosted 'The Beat' since 2017. It ranked fourth in the ratings among the news channel's shows as of Friday.
His possible departure comes at time of flux for the station. It's preparing to separate from NBC to join a distinct corporate group under parent company Comcast.
Last month, a network rep confirmed that MSNBC's popular poll wonk Steve Kornacki signed with NBC. That essentially severed his connection to the cable news outlet.
Melber's loss would also prove costly on YouTube, where clips from his show draw hefty views, Breaker noted. In addition, top-rated host Rachel Maddow's return to a once-a-week schedule is likely to diminish MSNBC viewership, so the loss of a proven personality like Melber could be costly.
Melber, an attorney, also serves as MSNBC's chief legal correspondent.
He and an MSNBC rep declined comment to Breaker.
Neither MSNBC nor an Instagram account for Melber's show immediately returned HuffPost requests for comment.

Jamie Lee Curtis Gets Unexpectedly Emotional Over Rumored New Couple

Jamie Lee Curtis is ready to fight for Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson's relationship ― even if they haven't confirmed they're actually together just yet. 'The Naked Gun' co-stars ― who are certainly the 'are they or aren't they' couple of the moment ― already have the support of Curtis, who spoke about their alleged love during a new interview with 'VT.' 'If love has found their way into that relationship, God bless them both,' Curtis says in a clip pulled from the interview. 'Leave them the fuck alone. And let them like each other.' 'Because both of them have had hardship, and they're both beautiful ― makes me cry ― beautiful human beings,' Curtis said as she began to get visibly emotional. 'If they actually have found an intimate love with each other, we should all go to bed tonight feeling better.' 'Because she's a beautiful person, and I worked with her on a movie,' Curtis said, referencing their 2024 film, 'The Last Showgirl.' 'And he suffered an unimaginable loss so young, and he's had a really hard go of it,' the actor said, of Neeson losing his wife, Natasha Richardson, due to a tragic skiing accident in 2009. Followers around the world are also loving Anderson and Neeson's swoon-worthy moments, which include flirty Instagram carousels of photos of the two, a quick smooch on the red carpet and headline-grabbing quotes about working with each other. While it's unclear if it's the ultimate PR move for their new movie, or if these two really are in love, their chemistry is clearly working. Related... 'I don't know what the heck is going to come out': Heidi Klum to start a worm and parasite cleanse

Heidi Klum is planning a worm and parasite cleanse. The 52-year-old supermodel has revealed that she and her husband Tom Kaulitz, 35, intend to try out the cleanse as they attempt to rid their bodies of potentially harmful worms and parasites. Heidi told the Wall Street Journal: "I'm going to deworm and de-parasite for the first time. Everything I'm getting on my Instagram feed at the moment is about worms and parasites. So I'm doing a worm cleanse and parasite cleanse with my husband. "I heard that you're supposed to do this once a year, and I've never done it. So I feel like I'm really behind. I don't know what the heck is going to come out." The model added: "Apparently, we all have parasites and worms. If you are someone who eats raw things every now and then, like, for example, sushi. There are pills (to get rid of them), they have all of these herbs. There's a lot of clove in there. The parasite hates clove. They also hate the seeds from a papaya. We have all this metal inside of us, and it's also very important that you use this de-metaling stuff. "I'm starting this now, and you have to do this for months. It's like a whole thing." Meanwhile, Heidi explained that she is constantly on the go. The former America's Got Talent judge said: "I feel like I exercise every day because I don't sit around on the couch. I'm always moving, doing things. I don't have someone that packs and unpacks for me. I run thousands of errands. "Today, for example, I have a fitting, then I try on I don't know how many outfits. It's clothes on and off, on and off, on and off, on and off. So I feel like I exercise kind of all the time. "Then we have a pool at home, so I swim a little bit in the pool. And we have a trampoline." Meanwhile, Klum is returning to the reality TV series Project Runway after an eight-year absence and is delighted to be revisiting her "first television baby". She said: "Project Runway is my first television baby. It's something that I have helped create, help sell to the network that ended up choosing us at the time. I love the show. I'm proud of the show. "I feel like we've come a long way. We talked about important things on the show that were kind of groundbreaking, I thought, at the time, including body positivity. "So I feel like, 'Yes, I'm coming back.' But you know, in my heart, I was never really gone."

Rachel Maddow Is Not Mincing Words When It Comes To The "Authoritarian" Nature Of The Trump Administration

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow says Americans no longer have to fear potential authoritarianism in their own country, because 'we are there' already — and cited President Donald Trump's widespread immigration raids, detainments without probable cause, and use of military force. 'We have crossed a line,' she said on The Rachel Maddow Show, Monday. 'We are in a place we did not want to be, but we are there. The thing we were all warning about for the last few years is not coming, it is here. We are in it. This is what [it's] like, it turns out.' Maddow argued that large swaths of the country might easily overlook this downward slide, as movies are still being produced, sports continue to be played, and families are still discussing the same old issues they always have around their kitchen table each night. 'But also, at the same time, life in the United States is profoundly changing,' Maddow added Monday. 'It's profoundly different than it was even six months ago, because we do now live in a country that has an authoritarian leader in charge.' Related: She then put it even more bluntly: 'We have a consolidating dictatorship in our country.' While the MSNBC host went on to acknowledge that this might sound 'melodramatic,' Maddow noted the US now seems to have its own 'secret police,' which is commonplace across dictatorships, in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency under Trump. 'A massive, anonymous, unbadged — literally masked — totally unaccountable internal police force that apparently has infinite funding but no identifiable leadership,' said Maddow. 'And they act in ways designed to instill maximum fear and use maximum force.' Related: Maddow continued: 'I mean, when you imagine an authoritarian country, what you imagine is masked secret police breaking people's car windows and snatching people off the streets and out of church parking lots and courtroom hallways and taking them away with no charges, no notice, no paperwork, no explanation, not letting them see lawyers and then moving them secretly to what are effectively black site prisons where they won't tell you who's there and where no one's allowed in to see what's going on.' Experts have already warned that one such prison, Florida's immigrant detention camp that Republicans have dubbed 'Alligator Alcatraz,' is 'a human rights disaster waiting to happen.' Democratic lawmakers initially blocked from visiting were finally granted access last month and confirmed its horrid conditions. Related: The president has justified nationwide crackdowns on undocumented workers, as well as the detainment, arrest, and deportation of college students and professors across the US, as necessary protection against supposedly violent and anti-American immigrants. Maddow argued it won't stop there, however, and that the US military in multiple states has already 'extended the legal boundaries of nearby military bases' by hundreds of miles 'so they can give active duty US troops the power to arrest and search people on US soil.' 'We are not heading toward something like this,' Maddow said Monday. 'We are there. It is here. It is the environment in which we are now living. And so, given that you now live in a country with an authoritarian leader, the question is: What can you do for your country?'
