AP: Ethiopian Delegation visits RTGS cent

Vijayawada, June 12 (UNI) A delegation from Ethiopia visited the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) located in the Secretariat on Thursday. The 10-member delegation, led by Girum Ketema Teklemariam, Director of Ethiopia's Digital Agriculture and Finance Program, is currently touring Amaravati. As part of their visit, the delegation toured the RTGS facility.
RTGS Deputy CEO M. Madhuri welcomed the delegation and explained the functioning of RTGS. She described how RTGS is acting as a technological bridge between the government and the people. She stated that the RTGS system took shape from the visionary ideas of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in the country to implement such a system.
She mentioned that a comprehensive data lake is being developed by integrating data from all government departments, which will help make governance more streamlined and effective. The government aims to deliver all services directly to citizens via their mobile phones, eliminating the need for people to visit government offices.
As part of this initiative, a WhatsApp Governance system under the name 'Mana Mitra' has been launched. Currently, 455 types of services are being offered through WhatsApp Governance, to expand to over a thousand services shortly.
An 'Aware Hub' has also been set up to provide real-time information on weather changes to the public. RTGS is continuously monitoring weather conditions in collaboration with ISRO. To ensure greater transparency and efficiency in government operations and to deliver better services to citizens, RTGS is extensively utilizing Artificial Intelligence. A dedicated AI Hub is being established within RTGS for this purpose.
RTGS is also providing the necessary technological support to government departments to ensure that the benefits of government schemes and programs effectively reach the people. The Ethiopian delegation expressed appreciation for the functioning of RTGS and praised the Government of Andhra Pradesh for establishing such an impressive technological system.
Accompanying the delegation were Agriculture Department Joint Director Balasubramanyam, Assistant Director VUV Ramana, and others.

Andhra Pradesh government conducts rigorous scrutiny to ensure Annadata Sukhibhava benefits reach eligible farmers

1 2 Vijayawada: In a decisive move to ensure that every eligible farmer receives financial support under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme, the Andhra Pradesh govt has launched a rigorous pre-verification process. This marks the first time such detailed scrutiny is being conducted ahead of the scheme's rollout. The department of agriculture, in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS), reviewed the data of 47.41 lakh farmers who successfully completed their eKYC. While the majority are active in the NPCI system, nearly 1.21 lakh farmers still face issues that could block their access to the benefits. Specifically, 76,705 farmers were found to have dormant or inactive bank accounts, and another 44,977 farmers were not found in the NPCI database due to lack of Aadhaar-bank linkage or NPCI mapping. "These technical issues have in the past deprived many deserving farmers of their benefits," said agriculture department director S Dilli Rao. "This time, we are committed to ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left out. We are verifying every account in advance so that the financial assistance reaches the right hands without delay. District officers and field-level staff have been instructed to identify and guide these farmers to complete eKYC, Aadhaar linking, and ensure their bank accounts are active," he added. List of affected farmers have been made available at Rythu Seva Kendras (RSKs) and through Mandal Agriculture Officer (MAO) login portals. Based on updated and verified information, the final list of beneficiaries will be prepared by RTGS and APCFSS. By addressing these issues before disbursing funds, the govt aims to avoid pitfalls of previous years and set a new benchmark in transparency and effectiveness in farmer welfare schemes.

India, UK sign landmark Free Trade Agreement

New Delhi/London, July 24 (UNI) India and UK today signed the landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) after three years of hectic parleys, bringing in the promise of a major boost to the economies of both countries. The Agreement was signed in London by Union Minister Piyush Goyal and his British counterpart Jonathan Reynolds in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a two-day visit to UK, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Prime Minister Modi described the Agreement as a ''plan for shared prosperity.'' ''The Agreement is not just an economic agreement but also the plan for a shared prosperity. New opportunities will emerge in the UK market for India's agricultural produce and processed food industry. This agreement will especially benefit Indian youth, farmers, fishermen and MSME sector. For people in India products made in UK will be available at reasonable and affordable prices," the Prime Minister said. The UK PM described the Agreement as a ''big win for Britain''. ''India deal is a big win for Britain that will improve people's lives,'' Mr Starmer said on X. ''A landmark deal with India means jobs, investment and growth here in the UK. It creates thousands of British jobs, unlocks new opportunities for businesses and puts money in the pockets of working people. That's our Plan for Change in action,'' he said. The agreement, okayed by the Union Cabinet early this week, includes lower tariffs on cars, clothing and footwear and jewellery and will involve reduced levies on British exports to India including on gin and whiskey, cosmetics and cars. The lower tariffs will make Indian exports cheaper and Indian manufacturers will gain access to the UK market for electric and hybrid vehicles. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said both countries had finalised the Agreement on May 6. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal described the FTA as a ''big win'' for farmers, ensuring duty-free exports on nearly 95 per cent of agricultural products. Duty-free access for about 99 per cent of Indian exports unlocks nearly 23 billion Dollars in opportunities for labour-intensive sectors, he said adding that artisans, weavers and daily-wage labourers employed in MSMEs would usher in a new phase of prosperity. He said the FTA is a big leap for women through improved access to finance and deeper integration into global value chains and will provide Indian consumers high quality goods at competitive prices. IEX shares in free fall, nosedive 28%. What should investors do now?

Shares of Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) plunged 28% to Rs 135.26 on NSE on Thursday after the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) formally approved the implementation of market coupling for India's power sector. ADVERTISEMENT The regulatory development comes just hours ahead of IEX's first-quarter earnings for FY26, heightening investor anxiety over the company's near-term outlook. In an order issued late Wednesday, the CERC said it would initiate market coupling in a phased manner, beginning with the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) by January 2026. This move follows extensive consultations with Grid-India and other power sector stakeholders. Market coupling is aimed at unifying price discovery by pooling bids from multiple power exchanges and clearing them centrally. The mechanism is expected to improve efficiency and reduce regional price disparities, but it may also disrupt the existing revenue model for dominant players like IEX operates independently as a leading player in the DAM and Real-Time Market (RTM). The introduction of coupling would mean bids from IEX and other exchanges will now be centrally matched, potentially eroding IEX's competitive advantage. ADVERTISEMENT Bernstein downgraded its target price to Rs 122 from Rs 160, maintaining a 'Market-Perform' rating. The brokerage noted, 'Coupling… as bad as it gets,' citing risks to IEX's transaction charges and market share. 'With the moat of liquidity gone, the only way to compete is transaction charge,' it however, maintained a 'Buy' call with a target price of Rs 285. While acknowledging the move was a negative surprise, the firm pointed out that the Grid-India report estimated only a 0.01–0.3% benefit in terms of savings or volume cleared. It also noted that RTM coupling would be considered in later phases. In FY25, DAM and RTM together contributed nearly 80% of IEX's revenue. ADVERTISEMENT Axis Capital highlighted the earnings risk, estimating that had market coupling been in place in FY25, IEX's EPS could have been around 30% lower due to loss of market the regulatory update lands just ahead of IEX's Q1FY26 results, which are expected later today. Analysts and investors will focus on management commentary around the implications of market coupling, expected volume trends, and how IEX plans to adapt ahead of the January 2026 implementation.
