Back in 2012, in a quiet Dutch town called Haren, a teenage girl made a simple mistake: she created a Facebook invitation for her 16th birthday party and accidentally left it public. Within days, the invite went viral across the Netherlands. Inspired by the wild Hollywood film Project X, where a teen's house party turns into chaos, thousands of teenagers RSVP'd.
Despite growing buzz, local authorities underestimated the scale. No crowd control, no security, and no official events were organised to manage the unexpected flood of teens. When they showed up anyway, with no party in sight, things took a dark turn. Frustration led to destruction. Cars were overturned, shops were looted, and fires broke out.
The small town was overwhelmed, and what was meant to be a birthday bash turned into one of the most chaotic riots the country had ever seen. The event shocked the Netherlands and made global headlines. It also raised important questions about social media responsibility, law enforcement preparedness, and mass behaviour in the digital age.

5-yr-old video of firing comes to haunt woman now studying in Canada
Rajkot: A five-year-old video showing a woman firing a single shot into the air has come back to haunt her, with the Devbhumi Dwarka police registering an FIR against her under the Arms Act. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the district police lodged a complaint at Jam Khambhaliya police station on Tuesday against the woman and her relative, after the video recently surfaced and went viral on social media. Police confirmed that Nandini has been living in Calgary, Canada, for the past three years for academic studies. The FIR was filed by Pabu Mayani, a constable with the SOG, following a preliminary investigation into the video. Speaking to TOI, he said, "We received information that she fired a shot into the air five years ago using a licensed double-barrel firearm belonging to her relative. The video of this incident is now being widely circulated on social media. We traced the video to a Facebook account." Police stated that the manner in which the shot was fired appeared reckless and could have endangered human life or personal safety. The 53-year-old co-accused was summoned for questioning and presented the firearm licence to the authorities. He admitted to lending the weapon to the woman. He was detained for violating provisions of the Arms Act.
