India Today15-07-2025
Ever since Jr NTR was confirmed to star in director Trivikram Srinivas's upcoming mythological film, fans have flooded social media demanding an update, be it an announcement video, first look, or poster. Responding to the growing buzz, producer Naga Vamsi confirmed that the team is working on the announcement and is planning something bigger than the recent 'Ramayana' glimpse that took the internet by storm.advertisementIn an interview with Gulte Pro, Naga Vamsi said, 'We are getting the announcement ready. We had planned it in a certain span. But in my personal opinion, after watching Ramayana's promo, you know what director Trivikram is to us, and with this being his first mythological film, we felt it needed something grand. After Senior NTR garu played Lord Rama and Krishna, this will be our first film showing Tarak as a god. So we want people to talk about it more than 'Ramayana'. So director sir said, no hurry, let's plan it properly and give something bigger.'Director Trivikram Srinivas's mythological fantasy project has been making headlines since it was first hinted at. Initially, reports suggested that Allu Arjun would play the lead. But on June 11, Naga Vamsi dropped a major clue on X, sharing a Sanskrit verse referencing Karthikeya, captioned, 'My most favourite Anna as one of the most powerful gods.' This post confirmed that Jr NTR would now headline the film.
Here's the post:
Interestingly, the project was reportedly first conceptualised with Jr NTR before being pitched to Allu Arjun. With Allu Arjun now committed to a film with Atlee, the makers are reportedly returning to their original plan with Tarak. In the same interview, Naga Vamsi also confirmed that Trivikram's next film before the mythological venture will be with Venkatesh Daggubati. Pre-production is underway, and the film is expected to go on floors in August. It will be a light-hearted family entertainer packed with feel-good moments and music. Here's the teaser of 'War 2': Meanwhile, Jr NTR is gearing up for the release of his Bollywood debut 'War 2', co-starring Hrithik Roshan. He is also shooting for his next film with director Prashanth Neel, reportedly titled 'Dragon'.- Ends

Ramayana, Mahabharata, Panchatantra turn into audiobooks: Audible teams up with Amar Chitra Katha to retell timeless tales

Audio storytelling platform Audible has partnered with iconic comic book publisher Amar Chitra Katha to release a series of audiobooks featuring epics and heritage stories from the latter's vast catalogue. Founded in 1967 by Anant Pai, Amar Chitra Katha is one of India's oldest comic book companies, widely credited with opening a window into a world where gods, kings, and heroes come alive through colourful illustrations and compelling storytelling. Today, the publisher boasts a library of over 600 titles in 20 languages, covering mythology, history, fables, folklore, and classical Indian literature — and sells over five million copies annually. The English-language audiobook collection, now available on Audible, features 111 epics and folktales based on some of Amar Chitra Katha's most beloved titles. Highlights include the Ramayana series, a riveting retelling of Lord Rama's exile, Sita's abduction, and the climactic war against Ravana, and the Mahabharata series, which narrates the story of the Kurukshetra war through the lives of Krishna, Arjuna, Draupadi, Bhishma, Karna, and more. The popular Panchatantra series, which features timeless fables offering life lessons through stories of kings, sages, and animals, has also been adapted into engaging audio narratives. Just in time for Shravan, Audible has also released the Mahadeva series, which explores mystical tales of Lord Shiva and his divine family, including Parvati and Ganesha. 'For decades, Amar Chitra Katha has brought Indian stories to life through art and text. Through this collaboration with Audible, we're taking that legacy into a new dimension where voice, sound, and emotion add a rich new layer to these tales,' said Reena Puri, executive editor of Amar Chitra Katha. 'Listening to these stories is like returning to the roots of Indian storytelling, when tales were passed down orally through generations.' Actor Rana Daggubati, who is also an investor in Amar Chitra Katha, echoed the sentiment: 'This creative alliance with Audible brings them to life through voice in languages children grow up with, think in, and carry in their hearts. Through audio, we're not just sharing tales, but creating moments of wonder, comfort, and cultural belonging that children can return to anytime, anywhere.' While the audiobooks are currently available in English, Hindi versions are slated for release in September 2025, followed by editions in Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, and Telugu in 2026.

Mahavatar Narsimha Director On Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: ‘We Project God Onto Actors'

Ashwin Kumar on Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: 'In India, we project God onto the actor.' Director explains why animation avoids this casting burden. Ashwin Kumar, the director of the animated mythological feature Mahavatar Narsimha, is not only celebrating the film's strong box office opening — ₹7.5 crore over its debut weekend — but also reflecting on the deeper intent behind building India's first seven-part animated mythological universe. Titled the Mahavatar Universe, the ambitious project by Hombale Films will chronicle the stories of all ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, starting with the fierce and divine incarnation of Narsimha. In an interview with Indian Express, Kumar spoke about why India is witnessing a resurgence of mythological storytelling and how the format of animation allowed him to sidestep the celebrity-driven discourse dominating the live-action adaptation space — a subtle nod to the casting chatter around Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana. 'Because it's never enough," Kumar said when asked why now is the right time to revisit Hindu mythology on screen. 'There have been so many outtakes and renditions of the same stories. But when you do it based on the shastras authentically, keeping the spirit and the divinity alive, then the idea is to resonate not just at the individual level, but at the soul level. So that the message, impression, and philosophy go deep into the culture and stay there for a long time." The director pointed out that ancient India had various ways to transmit mythology — sculptures in temples, toli performances in town squares, and the guru-shishya tradition that preserved knowledge across generations. Now, Kumar sees cinema, particularly animation, as the modern medium to continue that legacy. 'The times, the media, and the expression have changed, yet the spirit remains the same. And that's what we seek to do." Kumar also addressed the ongoing debate surrounding the casting of Tiwari's Ramayana and whether certain actors, especially someone like Ranbir Kapoor, can convincingly portray divine figures like Lord Ram. His response was clear — animation offered a unique advantage. 'Yes, that's true. For us, Narsimha Swami is our hero. There's a pro and con to everything," he said. 'From where I see it, in India, we have a habit of projecting the God onto the actor and the actor onto the God. That's something which is difficult to escape. Since we went with animation, we were able to move away from that. That's an advantage we have." By creating animated versions of mythological epics, Kumar and his team have sidestepped the intense scrutiny that live-action actors often face when stepping into divine roles — scrutiny that is often tied to personal image, stardom, and audience perception rather than scriptural authenticity. With Mahavatar Narsimha serving as the foundation, the Mahavatar Universe promises to be an expansive spiritual saga — with the next avatars expected to include Vamana, Parashurama, and eventually Krishna and Kalki. As Ramayana and Aamir Khan's Mahabharata begin to take shape in the live-action sphere, Kumar's animated venture offers a compelling counterpoint — one rooted in devotion, storytelling, and cultural preservation, without the noise of stardom.
