This drive will be conducted every Saturday in all the circles under GHMC limits. According to officials, at least one road per circle will be targeted during each drive. Zonal commissioners will monitor the operation and ensure these drives are conducted regularly in their respective circles. Civic officials have observed that certain types of encroachments - mostly established on a temporary basis - are occupying footpaths and road margins, posing recurring challenges across various parts of the city.
According to Section 405 of the GHMC Act, any wall, fence, rail, post, step, booth, or other structure - whether fixed or movable and whether of a permanent or temporary nature - set up in or upon or over any street, can be removed without prior notice.

At the national level, Hyderabad ranks just behind Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Lucknow, Raipur, and Jabalpur, marking its best-ever performance since the formation of Telangana. In previous years, the city's ranking hovered between 26 and 35, making this a significant leap forward. According to the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA), Hyderabad scored 11,805 out of 12,500 points across three key areas — Swachh Survekshan assessment (phases I-IV), ODF (Open Defecation Free) and water plus status, and star rating for garbage-free cities. The city was also recognised as the 'Promising Swachh Shehar of the state'. A few months ago, the GHMC applied for the 7-star garbage-free city certification and water plus recertification as part of its push to boost rankings in this year's Swachh Survekshan. Speaking at the award ceremony on Thursday, where Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar presented the recognition, GHMC commissioner RV Karnan said, 'In the coming days, we will focus on strengthening door-to-door collection. This achievement is the result of consistent efforts by citizens and staff. We have progressed from last year's 5-star rating and 9th rank to 7-star and 6th place — a sign of improvement.' SCB recognised cleanest among 58 cantonments The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has been recognised as the cleanest among 58 cantonments in the country for its efforts in solid waste management and the implementation of innovative best practices under Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. Additionally, it received a three-star certification for being a garbage-free city and earned water++ status in the ODF classification. Under solid waste management, SCB initiated doorto-door garbage collection in all wards with 95 GPS-enabled garbage collection vehicles for daily monitoring and tracking of waste collection. As part of Swachh Survekshan, the board revived Ramannakunta Lake through desilting, garbage removal, and inlet purification and planted over 15,000 saplings in the past two years across public spaces, parks, lake fronts, and school campuses. Officials said the award highlights dedication to building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment for its residents and sanitation workforce alike.

Swachh Survekshan feat: Hyd'bad gets 6th cleanest city tag in country
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad has been ranked the sixth cleanest city across the country, and gets seven-star rating under the Swachh Survekshan rankings. The rankings are conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission (SBM), which is the world's largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey. In 2023-24, the city secured the ninth position, while in 2022-23, it stood in the tenth spot. Hyderabad City has also received a seven-star rating in the Swachh Survekshan Survey for its garbage-free city status, making it the first and only city in Telangana to achieve this distinction. Hyderabad has also been re-certified as a 'Water Plus' city for the fourth consecutive year. Hyderabad was ranked sixth among the Million Plus Cities, those with a population of over 10 lakhs. In seven out of eight categories, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) received 100 per cent marks. The categories - door-to-door collection of waste, waste generation & processing, cleanliness of residential areas, cleanliness of market areas, cleanliness of water bodies, and cleanliness of public toilets. It scored 93 per cent only in category source segregation. Moreover, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) ranked first among all Cantonment Boards in the country and secured the 11th position in the national rankings in the medium cities' category with populations between 50,000 and 3 lakhs. Accordingly, GHMC received the 'State Level Award' as the most promising clean city of Telangana State, presented by Manohar Lal, during the 'Swachh Survekshan 2024 Awards Ceremony' at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event was presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, who presented the awards to the cleanest cities across India. The GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi extended her sincere congratulations to the GHMC Commissioner, relevant officers, staff, and sanitation workers who were instrumental in securing the award. 'This Swachh Survekshan Award has heightened our sense of responsibility. Motivated by this recognition, we will strive even harder to position Greater Hyderabad as a frontrunner in cleanliness, greenery, and health across the nation,' the Mayor said. She emphasized that this special recognition and award have been achieved thanks to the ongoing cleanliness initiatives by GHMC, the commitment of sanitation workers, and the support from the community.

Rundown Fatehnagar Road over Bridge set for revamp
HYDERABAD: The Fatehnagar Road over Bridge (RoB) is in a state of distress, with its rundown structure making it impassable and frequently clogged due to the narrow stretch. GHMC has proposed restoration including repairs to damaged footpaths, medians, and utility ducts. According to GHMC officials, the main objective is to conduct non-destructive testing to assess the extent of distress, particularly in damaged expansion joints, and to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the repair of the Fateh Nagar RoB. The consultant will perform UPV (Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity) testing at a minimum of 900 points, covering girders, diaphragms, bearing regions, and pier caps, with necessary scaffolding access. The testing reports must be submitted as part of the process. Further deliverables include preparation and submission of general agreement drawings of the bridge, a proposed restoration scheme, and recommended materials and methods for various structurally distressed components of the RoB. The entire process is expected to take around two months.
