Elite Women's Boxing Tournament: Nikhat Zareen starts campaign in style, Anjali upsets Manisha Moun
Telangana, June 28 (UNI) Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen started her campaign with a clinical 4:1 win over Uttar Pradesh's Rashi Sharma in the 48–51kg category while Haryana's Anjali got the better of World Championships bronze medallist Manisha Moun in the 57-60 kg category in the Elite Women's Boxing Tournament at Hyderabad's Saroornagar Indoor Stadium.
Organised by the Telangana Boxing Federation under the aegis of the Boxing Federation of India(BFI) and the Sports Authority of Telangana, the tournament brings together top-tier names and emerging prospects from across the country. The event, running from June 27 to July 1, features 15 participating units- 12 from the recent Elite Nationals, host Telangana, the SAI NCOE Combined team, and the TOPS Talent & Development squad.
Other notable Day 1 results included win for 2023 world champion Nitu (Haryana) in 45- 48kg over Rajani Singh (UP) 5:0 while Telangana's Yashi Sharma defeated K Monisha (Tamil Nadu) 5:0 in the 60–65kg category.
Another standout from the TOPS setup, Laxmi, posted a dominant 5:0 win in the 51–54kg bout against Ragini (UP). Former World Youth Champion Ankushita Boro is also in the fray.
The gold and silver medalists in each of the 10 weight categories will be selected for the elite national camp to be held in Patiala.

Sammy fined for ICC Code of Conduct breach against Australia
Dubai, June 29 (UNI) West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has been fined 15% of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second day of the first Test that the visitors clinched by 159 runs, courtesy Josh Hazlewood's stunning 5-43 in Bridgetown. The sanction relates to comments made by Sammy during a media interaction at the end of Day 2, where he criticised one of the match officials in reference to multiple incidents throughout the day's play. The 41-year-old was found to have violated Article 2.7 of the Code, which pertains to 'public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an International Match or any Player, Player Support Personnel, Match Official or team participating in any International Match.' As a result, one demerit point has also been added to Sammy's disciplinary record, his first offence in a 24-month period. Sammy admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Javagal Srinath of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, after the charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite. Level 1 offences carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of a 50% match fee fine, along with one or two demerit points. West Indies were thumped by the visiting Australian side by 159 runs after the home side lost all ten wickets in the final session on Day three, while chasing the 301-run target in a game that was filled with twists and turns. Chelsea beats Benfica in extra time to reach Club World Cup quarters
Charlotte, June 29 (UNI) Chelsea scored three extra-time goals to reach the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup with a 4-1 win over Benfica in a match interrupted by bad weather. Chelsea captain Reece James opened the scoring with a 64th-minute free kick before the match was suspended for almost two hours due to lightning in the Charlotte area on Saturday. Angel Di Maria equalized from the penalty spot nine minutes after the restart but Benfica was reduced to 10 men early in extra time when Gianluca Prestianni was sent off for a second booking. Chelsea then opened the floodgates as Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall netted in the space of nine minutes, setting up a clash with Brazil's Palmeiras next Friday. The Premier League side dictated terms early at Bank of America Stadium as Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo controlled the tempo in midfield. Marc Cucurella was particularly dangerous with his runs down the left wing and the Spain international was unlucky not to score when his curling shot was cleared off the line by Antonio Silva. Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin kept out attempts from Cole Palmer, Neto and Cucurella as the Portuguese club somehow reached the halftime break on level terms. Chelsea picked up where it left off in the second half, attacking with intent and forcing Benfica's defensive line to retreat deeper. The Lisbon outfit had a rare foray forward in the 57th minute as Fredrik Aursnes' dangerous cross from the right left Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez scrambling to mop up. James finally broke the deadlock just after the hour, catching Benfica's defense napping with a quickly taken free kick from the left wing that beat Trubin at his near post. The London side continued to push, with Palmer and Neto lashing shots wide after finding space around the box. Despite the energy-sapping heat, Benfica raised its intensity in search of an equalizer. Aursnes was proving lively on Benfica's right flank and Prestianni will have rued his wayward effort from 12 yards after the Norway international's clever run and pass. The storm delay failed to derail Benfica's late push. Bruno Lage's men were awarded a penalty in the 93rd minute when Malo Gusto was deemed to have handled the ball during a challenge with Nicolas Otamendi following a Di Maria free kick. The Argentine World Cup winner calmly converted the resultant spot kick to force the match into extra time. But Benfica's momentum was punctured by Prestianni's dismissal as Chelsea regained control. Nkunku restored his team's advantage in a goal-line scramble after Trubin spilled a tame Caicedo shot. Chelsea was suddenly in top gear and Neto extended the lead by calmly lifting a shot over Trubin after Di Maria was dispossessed in the center circle. Wimbledon could be best chance for 25th Grand Slam title: Djokovic
London, June 29 (UNI) Serbian legend Novak Djokovic agreed that Wimbledon could offer his best chance to claim a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. While attending the pre-Championships press conference on Saturday, the 38-year-old was asked if he believed this year's Wimbledon could be his best chance to win the 25th Grand Slam title and could it be his last dance at the grass-court Grand Slam this year. "Whether it could be my last dance, I'm not sure, as I'm not sure about Roland Garros or any other Slam that I play next," said Djokovic prior to his 20th appearance at Wimbledon. "My wish is to play for several more years. I would love to be healthy physically and also mentally motivated to keep on playing at the highest level. That's the goal, but you never know at this stage." "And yes, I would probably agree that Wimbledon could be the best chance because of the results I had, because of how I feel, how I play in Wimbledon, just getting that extra push mentally and motivation to perform the best tennis at the highest level," the seven-time Wimbledon champion continued. Djokovic ranked Wimbledon "maybe the most consistently successful Grand Slam for me in the last 10 years", as he reached six finals in the last six editions of the tournament. He won four titles consecutively before being beaten by Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the last two years. "I don't chase the rankings anymore. I'm trying to play the best tennis in Grand Slams and trying to win Grand Slams. That hasn't changed," he said. Djokovic reached the semifinals at both Australian Open and US Open this year.
