The slasher scandal of 1984 gets an update in Silent Night, Deadly Night remake teaser
More than 40 years later, here's the synopsis for the Cineverse remake: 'When Billy witnesses his parents' grisly murder on Christmas Eve at the hands of Santa, it ignites a lifelong mission to spread holiday fear. Every Christmas, he dons the jolly red suit and delivers a blood-soaked massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice. This Christmas Eve, Billy wants to know: 'Have you been naughty?''
The Silent Night, Deadly Night teaser gets right to it with ax-wielding action and blood splattering on Santa's (fake) snow-white beard. Audiences are probably more desensitized to the shock of a killer Santa in 2025, but in 1984 parents protested that the depiction—even just in the marketing—was traumatizing for kids. The outcry ultimately led to the ads being pulled from the press and later the film being pulled from theaters. Critics didn't dig it either, with Gene Siskel calling out everyone involved with making the movie and declaring 'Shame on you' on At The Movies. In 2012, The A.V. Club's Noel Murray had a milder view, observing it was 'as run-of-the-mill a slasher film as the '80s produced, enjoyable today primarily for its kitsch value.'
Despite the controversy or the quality, the film was successful enough to spawn four sequels and a 'slick but soulless' (in Murray's words) remake starring Malcolm McDowell, Jaime King, and Donal Logue. Cineverse's new take stars Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends) as Billy, with an ensemble cast that includes Ruby Modine, Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson. We'll see where this one fits into the Silent Night pantheon.

Nancy Meyers reacts to ‘The Holiday' series at Apple TV+: ‘News to me'
'The Holiday' without Nancy Meyers? Something's gotta give. After it was revealed that Apple TV+ is developing a limited series based on her 2006 Christmas romcom, Meyers, 75, shared that she was unaware of the upcoming project. 'News to me,' she wrote on her Instagram story over an article about the series from the Hollywood Reporter. 'Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw.' Of course, along the way, the women each find the perfect romantic pick-me-up in Jack Black and Jude Law, respectively. According to Entertainment Weekly, Krissie Ducker is set to write and executive produce the new series alongside Rob Delaney as a consultant. In 2022, Meyers revealed she had no plans to revisit the movie. Tom Holland Just Gave Us a Proper Look at the ‘Brand New Day' Spider Suit
Friday was Spider-Man Day (maybe), and to mark the occasion, Sony teased the hero's new suit for his next movie, Brand New Day. Now, Tom Holland's gone and shown the full thing. Most of it, at least. On his Instagram, the actor released a video this morning of him walking into a room, stepping into the light to display the new costume in its full glory as a new version of Michael Giacchinno's Spider-Man theme plays. 'We ready?' he asks to someone offscreen, before going off to shoot the movie. Beyond the raised webbing first shown in the teaser, the biggest change is the spider on the chest, which looks to be a little bigger here than it was in his Final Swing suit at the end of No Way Home. Compared to Tobey Maguire's suit and Andrew Garfield's second Amazing threads, it looks in between those in terms of size and length. View this post on InstagramSpeaking of Brand New Day, we also learned on Friday the film would see the return of Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Michael Mando as Mac Gargan, aka the Scorpion. The former will mark his first appearance in the Spider-Man corner of the MCU, and Gargan's been MIA since 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. (However, the MCU's last few Phases have been big on bringing back its surviving villains.) Ruffalo and Mando are the latest additions to the cast, which includes Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas in mysterious roles. It's still unclear if Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are back as MJ and Ned, and if so, in what capacity.
