BHOPAL: Two executive engineers were suspended for negligence following the repeated collapse of the newly constructed Chetakpuri (Mahal) Road in Gwalior.
The road, built at a cost of Rs 4.09 crore, has collapsed as many as 10 times within 12 days, raising concerns about construction quality.
While the engineers were suspended for poor supervision, no action has been taken against the company responsible for the construction, sources say.
GMC has paid Rs 2 crore to the company for related storm water drainage work.
Experts attribute the repeated collapses to three main issues: use of clay instead of gravel for filling trenches, inadequate compaction, and the absence of vibrating roller technology required for proper soil compaction.
AAP workers led by district president Amitabh Pandey staged protest and were later detained by the police.

Conned at first sight! 21 held in wine-&-dine dating scam

Mumbai: A lot can happen on a date. Why, one could even get scammed by the partner. In a dating scam case, 21 people, six of them women, have been arrested. The women would scout for targets on dating apps, call the men to restaurants on a "date", connive with restaurant staff to con the man by generating inflated bills. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The scam came to light when a man on one such date sensed something amiss at a restaurant in Borivli and called up the police. The man had matched with a 22-year-old woman, Disha, on a dating app on April 11. They exchanged phone numbers and agreed to meet at a restaurant in Eksar locality a day later. When the man reached the venue around 6 pm, Disha was already waiting for him. The two ordered liquor, a hookah pot, and energy drinks. Eventually, a bill of Rs 35,000 was presented to the man. He refused to pay the "excessive" amount when a restaurant staffer started to threaten him, said an officer from MHB Colony police station. The man dialled up police helpline '100' and called the cops to the restaurant. The staff reduced the bill to Rs 30,000, and the woman offered to pay half of it. Later that day, the complainant realised that the UPI payment of Rs 15,000 he had made was to a personal ID, not that of the restaurant. The police tracked down the UPI ID and also scrutinised the woman's phone call records. They traced the woman, and after inquiring with her, busted the racket. A team led by deputy commissioner Anant Bhoite and senior inspector Ganesh Pawar arrested 21 people. The police said that the women had been conniving with restaurant staff who generated inflated bills. The man was threatened into paying up, and the woman later got her cut from the restaurant staffer. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In another case, a photographer was duped of Rs 32,000 by a woman he met on a dating app in May. The woman, Preeti, called him to a restaurant at Malad where he was forced to pay Rs 32,000. The police said they are are now investigating if the same gang is involved in this case too.

Debock MD had fought LS election in 2019: ED

1 2 Jaipur: Mukesh Kumar , chairman and managing director of Debock Industries Limited, contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat on a Shiv Sena ticket. During his campaign, he enlisted Rakhi Sawant as a star campaigner, but he only received 4,600 votes and secured seventh place. This was revealed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which concluded its raids at the Jaipur-based company. Mukesh also introduced himself as Mukesh Manveer Singh in business circles of Rajasthan and other parts. ED officials said that there could be a possibility that Mukesh aimed to conceal his financial scams exceeding Rs 100 crore by entering politics. "Presently, we are only investigating Rs 100 crore scam, though we are aware of some of his previous cheating cases lodged at various police stations in Jaipur." TOI obtained a copy of the 2019 Tonk-Sawai Madhopur election results in which Kumar received 4,600 votes and lost his security deposit. During that time, Kumar invited Rakhi Sawant as a campaigner and organised a vehicle rally at Sawai Madhopur too. Regarding his name, the ED authorities said that it is not clear why he was changing his name from Mukesh Kumar to Mukesh Manveer Singh. "Many times, people use this trick to avoid their debts. He was introducing himself as Mukesh Manveer Singh in the business circles of Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan," the officer said. Meanwhile, ED raids resulted in the seizure of Rs 78 lakh, four luxury vehicles, and property papers as proceeds of the Rs 100 crore scam. "A few other things are on our radar. A few properties at Chaksu and Tonk could also be the proceeds of crime. We will urge people not to invest in this group or its properties," the officer said.
