Ministry to press ahead with armed forces modernisation, says Khaled
Khaled said the current state of armed forces operations remained stable, but emphasised the need for forward-looking strategies.
"Everything is going well. But that doesn't mean we don't have plans. We are aware of the aging condition of our assets. All our services are undergoing a process of modernisation.
"As for the navy, they will have the 15-to-5 plan. Previously, there were 15 different types of ships and assets. From those 15 types, they will focus on five main types of assets," he said during a press conference at Terminal 2 Kota Kinabalu Airport here.
Khaled was speaking to the media following the successful live firing of Exocet missiles and a Black Shark torpedo, during the concluding phase of joint naval drills dubbed Eksesais TAMING SARI 23/25 and Eksesais KERISMAS 28/25.
The exercises involved the launch of ship-borne Exocet MM40 missiles by KD Lekiu and KD Lekir, as well as the coordinated underwater firing of an Exocet SM39 from the submarine KD Tunku Abdul Rahman.
For the first time, the exercise also featured the firing of a Black Shark War torpedo in full combat configuration from KD Tun Razak.
"The success of these missile and torpedo firings clearly demonstrates the navy's seriousness in projecting its capability and determination to defend Malaysia's maritime sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Eksesais Taming Sari 23/25 was held together with Eksesais KERISMAS 28/25, running from July 8 to 31.
Both exercises began at the Lumut naval base and would conclude at the Kota Kinabalu naval base, covering Malaysia's maritime zone in the South China Sea.
The joint exercises focused on multi-domain operational capability and interoperability between participating units.
Additionally, the drill provided a strategic platform to enhance synergy between defence and security agencies, involving the army , Royal Malaysian Air Force and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
Present were the ministry secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithna and Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters chief-of-staff Lieutenant-General Datuk Azhan Md Othman.

Nuclear energy under govt review for future power mix
PUTRAJAYA: The government is conducting a structured assessment to explore the role of nuclear energy as a potential source of clean, stable and competitive electricity in the country's future energy mix. This initiative considers the need to diversify energy sources, strengthen long-term energy security, support carbon emission reduction targets, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, in line with Malaysia's climate change commitments and rising energy demand. The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry said the Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organisation (NEPIO), under MyPOWER Corporation, has been tasked with coordinating preparatory efforts based on guidelines recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). "This preparatory phase is being carried out through the coordination of an organised framework via a technical committee mechanism involving ministries, departments and agencies to ensure a comprehensive and integrated national approach. "Its implementation will be guided by the IAEA Milestone Approach, which includes national positioning, the development of legal and regulatory frameworks, stakeholder engagement and human capital development," it said in a statement today. However, it said that no decision has been made at this stage regarding the implementation, type of technology or capacity of any nuclear reactor to be developed. The ministry said the government's priority is to ensure that any future decision is based on comprehensive technical analysis and aligned with national development priorities, while also complying with international obligations. "This is in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, which emphasises long-term national planning that is grounded in knowledge, sustainable resource use and the well-being of the people and future generations." On Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), said the government is considering nuclear energy as one of the safe, competitive and clean energy sources for the future. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang was reported as saying that a bill to amend Malaysia's atomic energy legislation may be tabled in the current parliamentary session. – Bernama

Felda free to steer FGV post-delisting: PM Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) can begin to independently determine FGV Holdings Bhd's direction once the company completes its delisting process from Bursa Malaysia, which will commence on Aug 28, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said that this move will enable Felda, together with its cooperative and settlers, to fully focus on the agency's original mission of safeguarding the rights, returns, and interests of the settlers. 'We can proceed with the delisting starting Aug 28. This means Felda is no longer bound. Felda is a strength and can decide its own direction and provide assurances to the Federal Land Development Authority Malaysia Cooperative (KPF) so that the benefits and interests of the settlers remain the top priority. 'As soon as this matter is settled, I, together with Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and colleagues, will ensure clear guidance from the government -- namely, to make sure FGV returns to Felda's original mission,' he said during the launch of the Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D) 2025 here today. Anwar added that the delisting of FGV is a result of Felda's efficient management, and the focus now must be on ensuring that Felda's projects are implemented smoothly in line with the settlers' needs. Earlier, the media reported that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that Felda now holds 92 per cent of the shares in FGV, paving the way for full ownership and restructuring of the company. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday, FGV announced that Felda has acquired 91.73 per cent of FGV's total issued shares. FGV's shares are expected to be suspended from trading five market days after the offer for all remaining shares closes on Aug 15. - Bernama

FGV delisting to begin Aug 28, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: The process to delist FGV Holdings Berhad from Bursa Malaysia starts on Aug 28, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said the move was possible due to sound management, and praised Felda's leadership. "Because of good management – thank you to the Director-General and the entire Felda management – we can begin the delisting on August 28," he said on Saturday (Aug 2) at the National Felda Settlers' Day Celebration and Rural Entrepreneurs' Carnival. "This means that Felda is no longer bound. Felda is a strength. FGV can now determine its own direction and provide assurance through the cooperative so that settlers' interests and benefits are prioritised,' said Anwar. Anwar added that the government would ensure FGV remains aligned with Felda's founding purpose. "Once this matter is settled, I, together with Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and our colleagues want to ensure a clear directive from the government; ensure that FGV returns to Felda's original objectives." He emphasised that FGV's focus must be on the settlers. "The priority is the settlers – their rights, their returns, and the cooperative they themselves have determined," he said, referring to Koperasi Permodalan Felda Malaysia Bhd. Anwar also stated that FGV's next phase would be critical. "Next, they will manage the initial few months so that Felda projects will succeed as intended," he said.
