Shoppers 'blown away' by £18 earbuds that 'sound just as good as Apple AirPods'

Daily Record18-07-2025
This set of popular earbuds has had more than 45,000 five-star reviews.
A set of wireless earbuds has become an essential item that the vast majority of us carry around on a day-to-day basis. Whether commuting, at the gym, or catching up on your latest binge watch while on-the-go, these handy earphones are easily accessible from their charging case and don't come with annoying wires.
However, with so many brands on the market, it can be difficult to decide which set to go for. While many high tech brands have their own models on the market with the most up to date features, these also come with a hefty price tag.
But it seems like you don't need to break the bank to buy a high quality set of earbuds, as Amazon is selling a set for under £20 that shoppers say "sound just as good as Apple AirPods". Normally retailing for £29.99, shoppers can now grab the black edition of the soundcore by Anker P20i True Wireless Earbuds for £18.
Shoppers can also choose from a range of other colours, including white, pink and blue, for the slightly higher price of £19.99. Designated as an Amazon's Choice product, these soundcore earbuds offer users a personalised listening experience. By using the soundcore app, shoppers can customise the controls and choose from 22 EQ presets.
Additionally, the app also comes with a useful 'Find My Earbuds' feature for when you accidentally misplace one of your earbuds. Boasting oversized 10mm drivers, these earbuds will deliver powerful sound with boosted bass so users can completely immerse themselves into their favourite music or tv show.
With 10 hours of battery life on a single charge, this can be boosted to 30 hours with the handy charging case. And if shoppers are in need of a little power boost, a quick 10 minute charge will provide two hours of playtime.
Users will also experience AI-enhanced calls via the earbuds as they come with two built-in mics to provide a clear sound. However, it should be noted that these earbuds do not come with a noise cancellation feature.
For those set on buying a set of earbuds with noise cancellation, Amazon is also selling the soundcore P30i by Anker Earbuds for the slightly higher price of £33.99 (RRP £49.99). Available in a variety of colours, these earbuds can reduce noise by up to 42 dB with its active noise cancelling system.
Alternatively, Argos is selling the JLab Go Pop ANC True Wireless Earbuds for £29.99. Also equipped with noise cancelling features, these earbuds have a total battery life of up to 24 hours with the charging case and shoppers can customise the sound via the JLab App.
Back to the P20i earbuds, they currently have a 4.4 star rating on Amazon and boast over 45,000 five-star reviews. Many customers were surprised by the sound quality of these earbuds, with many saying they would buy them again.
One happy shopper said: "I've tried countless wireless earbuds, but the Soundcore P20i by Anker have shot straight to the top of my list. From the moment I popped them in, I was blown away by the crisp, detailed audio—deep bass, sweet mids, and clear highs—with zero muddiness."
While another five-star reviewer added: "For sub £20, what can I say? I've used Apples AirPods since forever but lost a bud and thought I'd buy these temporarily until I got AirPods. But I won't bother now, these sound just as good, if not better."
However, one shopper grumbled about the fit, writing: "The bud is a bit wide. If you have small ears, they don't fit well and work loose and drop out."
While another noted a different issue: "Fit in ears nicely, however the sound is a bit weak."
But someone else who also compared these to Apple, said: "I bought these as a spare set to my existing AirPods and have to admit they are well worth the money. The bass is great and the charge time is beyond what I had hoped.
"I would buy these again and to be honest, for the money they are better value than the Apple earbuds, albeit they don't have quite the same range in terms of treble to bass or the noise cancelling functionality."
And another five-star reviewer wrote: "These earbuds are an excellent value for money! The sound quality is surprisingly good, definitely on par with some of the more well-known (and much pricier) brands. They're comfortable, reliable, and deliver great audio whether it's for music, calls, or podcasts. Highly recommend if you're looking for quality without breaking the bank!"

Amazon tumbles after cloud computing growth disappoints investors

Aug 1 (Reuters) - shares fell 7% on Friday as the tech giant's results fanned investor fears its cloud unit was falling behind Microsoft and Alphabet in the artificial intelligence race. Amazon Web Services, long the cloud-computing market leader, edged past Wall Street estimates for June-quarter revenue on Thursday with a 17.5% increase, but it widely lagged the 39% growth seen at Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud's 32% gain. That disappointing growth came even as Amazon shelled out $31.4 billion in capital expenditure, more than rivals, and suggested it would spend a more-than-estimated $118 billion for the year. Google and Microsoft also pledged higher spending, but were rewarded from investors on signs AI was already becoming a major growth driver across their businesses, justifying the bill. The companies have been spending billions of dollars on datacenters and cutting-edge chips that they say are necessary to overcome supply constraints hampering their efforts to capitalize on soaring demand for AI services. "The spotlight was firmly on AWS and it didn't quite shine as brightly as expected," said Matt Britzman, senior equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown. "While Microsoft and Alphabet have already shown strong momentum in cloud growth, AWS wasn't the knockout many wanted to see." Growing expenses have also started to take a bite out of AWS's margins, the business that has long been Amazon's profit engine, accounting for about 60% of its operating income. AWS margins contracted to 32.9% during the quarter, their lowest level since the final quarter of 2023, and Amazon also issued a current-quarter total operating income forecast that was lower than market estimates. CEO Andy Jassy told analysts on a post-earnings call that it was still "very early days" in the AI race and that Amazon's massive cloud business, much larger than rivals, was primed to perform well once the AI capacity constraints start to ease. The stock, now down 1.5% for the year, was at $216.2 in late morning trading. The drop was set to erase around $170 billion from Amazon's market value, if the losses hold. The company still trades at a relatively high premium, with a 12-month forward price-to-earnings ratio of 33.87, compared with Microsoft's (MSFT.O), opens new tab 34.19 and Alphabet's (GOOGL.O), opens new tab 18.64, according to data compiled by LSEG. At least 30 analysts raised their price targets on the stock, while three lowered, giving it a median view of $260. Some of that analyst confidence comes from the strong performance of Amazon's retail business, which has remained resilient in the face of Trump administration tariffs that have hobbled many retailers and their supply chains. Amazon has yet to see a drop in demand or a notable rise in prices in the first half of the year, Jassy said, as its online store sales jumped a better-than-expected 11% in the second quarter. Manufacturers and suppliers have shouldered most of the tariff impact so far, analysts said, but noted that much of the inventory Amazon sold in the quarter arrived in the preceding three-month period. "If Amazon's retail business was a standalone entity, it would be trading dramatically higher following the near-perfect results," said Michael Morton, analyst at MoffettNathanson. "Unfortunately, as we all know, the success of the retail business is not what's going to matter in the near term for Amazon's stock price."
