Juan Jesus: ‘Napoli must never let our guard down again'

Yahoo3 days ago
Brazilian defender Juan Jesus has praised Napoli's defensive improvements and revealed how head coach Antonio Conte has instilled a winning attitude into the side.
Speaking to Radio CRC, with quotes via Alfredo Pedulla's website, Jesus said that 'If a team defends as a unit, it becomes much easier for the back line. We take responsibility for the mistakes we made two years ago, we are not hiding, but those mistakes helped us grow and taught us that we can never let our guard down again.'
Jesus played 15 times in Serie A for Napoli last season and wore the captain's armband in the club's 3-1 Coppa Italia defeat to Lazio.

Napoli boss 'Conte never backs down'
The radio station asked Jesus about his thoughts on the club's pre-season so far: 'I'm happy to be here in Castel di Sangro – I've been coming for several years now. Maybe it is surprising to some who didn't know me well or didn't think I would stay this long but I know my own qualities and what I had to offer.'
Jesus was complimentary of former Napoli head coach Luciano Spalletti, who spent two years at the club between 2021 and 2023: 'The first person to believe in me was Spalletti. Without him, I would not have made history at Napoli. Now Conte is here and I know I have his trust. I'm proud to have spent much time here and to have won two Scudetti. Hopefully, we can continue writing history together.'

On Spalletti, Jesus added that 'With him, I think I played 18 or 19 league matches since he rotated a lot with Kim, Rrahmani and also Østigard. Last year, with Buongiorno's injury I had more opportunities and was able to give my all.'
Antonio Conte has been at Napoli since last summer with Jesus describing the head coach as having 'a very specific method and he teaches you to never give up. Given his career and personality, he has always been someone who never backs down and pushes us to give 100%. You can see that on the pitch.'

Girona on verge of selling leftback Miguel Gutierrez to Napoli

Girona on verge of selling leftback Miguel Gutierrez to Napoli originally appeared on The Sporting News With Girona's La Liga season kicking off just over 10 days away, the Spanish club may still be sorting out its opening day lineup as Miguel Gutierrez is drawing significant interest from Italian side Napoli. In fact, the two parties are in advanced discussions, and a resolution may come as early as this week before each club begins its respective league duties. According to insider Fabricio Romano, Napoli is interested in adding the Girona stalwart to its backline– to the tune of 18 million Euros. Now, that fee appears rather nominal as Gutierrez has operated as a mainstay at leftback for Girona over the past three seasons, amassing 91 starts during that timeframe. At 24-years old, Gutierrez registered one goal and five assists last season across his nearly 2,500 minutes played. One season prior, Gutierrez offered nine goal contributions (two goals and seven assists) as he cemented himself as a productive, pace-laden defender for Girona. Before joining Girona, Gutierrez was a member of Real Madrid for three seasons, though he sparingly saw the field during that time. Now, selling Gutierrez would certainly generate additional funds for Girona to bolster its squad in other areas, but it would be a risky move for a team that already conceded 61 goals a year ago, good for third-most in all of La Liga. Girona will open its La Liga campaign against Rayo Vellanco on Friday, Aug. 15. Torino hard at work on Simeone, Oristanio, Idzes and more

Giovanni Simeone was a surprise report on July 26, but now Torino are on the verge of an €8m deal with Napoli, while talks continue for Gaetano Oristanio, Jay Idzes and Kassoum Ouattara too. It had been an exclusive here over a week ago that the Granata were interested in Simeone and the negotiations have reached the final details to get an agreement over the line. Napoli are ready to give the all clear for him to undergo his medical, with the fee set at a total of around €8m. Simeone's arrival will allow Duvan Zapata all the time he needs to make a full recovery from that serious knee injury. (Photo by) Meanwhile, Torino are also working hard on other deals, as we already saw our exclusives on Ardian Ismajli, Franco Israel and Cyril Ngonge pan out. They remain very interested in Oristanio, a link we made exclusively here on June 27, and over the next few days there will be more discussions with Venezia. A deal could be done on loan without the obligation to buy, but only an option, so we shall see. Their meeting with Venezia could also stretch to a conversation about Idzes, although Sassuolo remain on his tail too, in case Saul Coco is sold. Watch out also for AS Monaco left-back Ouattara, as revealed by ToroZone, who is also on their radar.
