New Black Caps head coach named

Former South Africa, Otago, and Central Districts coach Rob Walter has been appointed as the Black Caps' new coach in all formats.
The 49-year-old, who replaces Gary Stead, said he was "honoured and excited" to be given the responsibility to carry on the work of his predecessor.
'The Black Caps have been a successful and highly-regarded team on the world scene for some time now and it's a real privilege to be given the chance to add to that," he said.
"It's an amazing opportunity to work with such a talented group of players and support staff through a period of time in which so many global events, as well as massive bilateral series, will be contested."
Walter has been appointed on a three-year deal, beginning in mid-June through until October/November 2028.

He was most recently head coach of South Africa's white ball teams.
During his contract term, he will see the Black Caps through the ICC World Test Championship, the 2028 LA Olympics, and three major ICC events: the ICC 2026 T20 World Cup, the ICC 2027 Cricket World Cup, and the ICC 2028 T20 World Cup.
"I just can't wait to get started. It's exciting, it's challenging, and the opportunity is enormous for everyone," Walter said.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief executive Scott Weenink said it was the right time and place for Walter to join the team.
'His success in New Zealand's domestic game, combined with his recent achievements on the global stage with South Africa, makes him the ideal candidate to lead the Black Caps."

Cricket: Matt Henry guides Black Caps to Tri-Series final triumph

Matt Henry celebrates a wicket for the Black Caps. Photo: AFP New Zealand seamer Matt Henry restricted South Africa to three runs from the last over to seal a dramatic three-run victory in the Twenty20 International Tri-Series final in Harare. Chasing 181 for victory, South Africa needed eight off the last eight balls with six wickets in hand, and seven from the final over, but brilliant catches in the outfield by Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell helped restrict them to 177-6. Dewald Brevis looked as though he had won the game with 31 from 16 deliveries and was an inch or two from completing the job as he launched Henry towards the square-leg boundary, only for Bracewell to juggle the ball as he stepped over the rope back into play to complete the catch. Mitchell took a superb diving effort at long off to dismiss George Linde, who looked as though he would win the game for the South Africans with a big hit down the ground. Senuran Muthusamy could not get bat to ball on the final delivery of the game from Henry, who finished with figures of 2-19 from three overs. "As a group we have been playing some really good cricket and to get over the line in a really tight game, I am proud of the guys," Henry said. "It is credit to the attitude of our team, making sure we stay in the fight and knowing that wickets can change things." New Zealand were sent into bat and amassed 180 for five. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra both scored 47. Teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored 51 from 35 balls in South Africa's reply and they looked to be coasting home before Brevis' dismissal and the excellent final over from Henry. "We played a pretty good game, it was a match of millimetres," South Africa captain Rassie van der Dussen said. "We have had guys making debuts and experimented a bit (in the series), so for the young guys to come in and get so close, we will learn a lot from this." Zimbabwe were the third team involved in the Tri-Series, but lost all four group games. - Reuters

Black Caps v South Africa: Live updates as New Zealand meet Proteas in Twenty20 Tri-series final

All the action as the Black Caps meet South Africa in the final of the Twenty20 Tri-series Seifert and Sodhi shine as Black Caps thrash Zimbabwe Tim Seifert hit a second successive half-century and Ish Sodhi took four wickets as New Zealand beat Zimbabwe by 60 runs in their T20 tri-series match in Harare today. New Zealand won all four matches in the round robin phase of the tournament. They will play South Africa in the final at the same venue on Saturday. Seifert hit 75 in a New Zealand total of 190 for six - the highest of the tournament – and Sodhi took a career-best four for 12 as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 130. Seifert and Rachin Ravindra (63) put on 108 for the second wicket to set up New Zealand for the highest total in the six round robin matches. Zimbabwe scored 21 off the first two overs in reply before leg-spinner Sodhi came on to bowl in the third over. He struck with his second ball and took three wickets for five runs in two overs in the powerplay. Sodhi came back later to claim a fourth wicket and become the third player to take 150 wickets in T20 internationals on a list headed by fellow New Zealander Tim Southee with 164. It was his fifth and least expensive four-wicket haul in the format. 'It was nice to contribute in a slightly new role for me. I haven't bowled a lot in powerplays in my career,' said Sodhi after being named player of the match. 'It was nice to put a score on the board batting first,' said New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner who chose to bat on a pitch which has favoured teams batting second. He said the number of players who had 'put their hands up at different times' gave New Zealand a selection headache ahead of the final.
