Whitehead finished second in Hickory High School history and among the top 10 in county history with 1,837 career points.
He earned first-team all-state honors as a senior and was named Pennsylvania Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year.
UNC-Greensboro is an NCAA Division I program that competes in the Southern Conference.

UNC football flips 4-star class of 2026 recruit from SEC program
The Tar Heels earned a major football recruiting victory on Friday afternoon. The North Carolina Tar Heels, exactly a month away from the start of their highly-anticipated 2025 football season, continue to make positive impacts in their 2026 recruiting class. This time, UNC's latest addition involves stealing a talented recruit from a regional SEC program. On Friday afternoon, class of 2026 tight end Carson Sneed flipped his commitment from Tennessee to North Carolina. Sneed's flip now gives the Tar Heels 35 commitments in their next recruiting class, which ranks nationally and continues to grow. The 247Sports Composite rankings tab Sneed, a 4-star recruit, the 13th-ranked player from Tennessee, 18th-ranked tight end overall and 404th player nationally. Sneed is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Dayton, who transferred to North Carolina in April – from the Volunteers. UNC currently lacks a true number one tight end on its roster, but former Texas A&M transfer Jake Johnson is poised to be the top 2025 guy in Chapel Hill. Outside of Johnson, collegiate experience drops off, but Arkansas transfer Shamar Easter was amongst the 2023 recruiting class' top-ranked players. Currently a 2-way player at Donelson Christian Academy in Nashville, Sneed is coming off a junior season in which he caught 33 passes, adding 409 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, Sneed recorded 44 tackles, 10 TFLs, three sacks and an interception. With Bill Belichick now leading the Tar Heels, recruits want to play in Chapel Hill. DaRon Holmes II appears in 'Rookie Diaries' video released by Nuggets
Denver Nuggets forward DaRon Holmes II appeared in a new behind-the-scenes documentary video released by the team, detailing his experience at the NBA Summer League. Holmes returned to play with the Nuggets earlier this month after missing last season because of a torn Achilles tendon sustained during his debut last year. He started ramping up activity during the playoffs and was on the court for much of the summer before suiting up in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 22nd pick in the 2024 NBA draft was commended for the way he approached his rehab, while maintaining a high spirit. The medical staff helped ensure a smooth recovery process, which was on display in the first episode of "Rookie Diaries" released this week. Holmes was a consensus second-team All-American at Dayton during the 2023-24 season, averaging 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 blocks on 38.6% shooting from 3-point range as a junior. He was also the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. The 22-year-old made four appearances with the Nuggets in summer league, averaging 13 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and one steal on 42.1% shooting from 3-point range. He registered two double-doubles, including a 19-point, 17-rebound and five-assist performance on July 17. Holmes was understandably nervous to return to the site where he was injured, but the 6-foot-9 standout settled in and dazzled with the team. He was highly valued by the team entering the draft last year, and the organization will certainly be excited to watch him next season.

Dahmen grabs first-round lead at PGA Wyndham Championship
Joel Dahmen, fighting to make the season-ending playoffs, fired a nine-under par 61 on Thursday to seize a one-shot lead in the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina. Dahmen arrived at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro ranked 101st in the tour's FedEx Cup standings. The top 70 advance to the playoffs that start next week with the St. Jude Championship. Dahmen attacked the challenge with 10 birdies, including three in a row to cap his round at the seventh, eighth and ninth. "I don't know if you ever see 61 coming, but I saw good golf coming," Dahmen said, pointing to a stretch of some 45 holes without a bogey last week. A victory would move Dahmen into 48th place in the FedEx Cup standings, although the 37-year-old -- who has one win on his resume -- was quick to note there was a lot of golf left to be played. "The playoffs are a bonus for me," he said. "I'm just going to go out and try to play good golf and I guess if I play really well then I get to play another week." Dahmen had a one-stroke lead over Sweden's Alex Noren, whose eight-under round was highlighted by an eagle at the par-five fifth hole. England's Aaron Rai, Colombian Nico Echavarria and Americans Mark Hubbard and Cameron Young were tied for third on seven-under. bb/acb
