Similipal to close for tourists from July 1
Baripada: TheSimilipal Tiger Reserve will be closed for tourists from July 1 because of monsoon, an official order said on Sunday.
In a notification, STR Field Director Prakash Chand Gogineni stated that the exact date for reopening of the national park would be announced later.
However, the ecotourism complex at Jamuani, Gurgudia, Kumari, Barehipani and Ramtirtha will remain open for tourists, he said.
Gogineni said in all 38,483 tourists, including 12 foreigners, visited Similipal in 2024-2025, generating a revenue of Rs 4.26 crore.
'While Rs 1.22 crore was earned from jungle safaris, Rs 2.75 crore was collected from nature camps inside the national park and Rs 29 lakh from entry permits,' he said.
Spread over 2,750 square kilometres, the reserve has a variety of plant species and 96 types of orchids.
It is also home to 42 species of mammals, 242 varieties of birds and 30 reptile categories.

Railways rationalises basic fare for passenger train services, details
To streamline fare structures and ensure better financial sustainability, the Ministry of Railways has announced a rationalisation of basic fares for passenger train services, effective from July 1, 2025. The revised fares are based on the updated Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA).According to the new fare structure, there will be no increase in ordinary non-AC class fares for journeys up to 500 km. For longer distances, a nominal hike has been introduced: Rs 5 for distances between 501 km and 1500 km, Rs 10 for 1501 km to 2500 km, and Rs 15 for journeys between 2501 km and 3000 Mail and Express trains (non-AC classes), the basic fare has been increased by 1 paisa per kilometre across Second Class, Sleeper Class, and First Class categories. In AC classes, including AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, and Executive Classes, fares will rise by 2 paisa per single journey fares and season tickets, for both suburban and non-suburban routes, remain unchanged. Reservation charges, superfast surcharges, and other ancillary fees also remain the same. GST will continue to be applied as per existing rules, and fare rounding principles will remain revised fare will apply to tickets booked on or after July 1, 2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the old rates, and no fare adjustment will be made. Land along Ganga e-way, airport link can't be sold in Noida
Noida: There will be no land deals along a proposed route connecting under-construction Noida International Airport (NIA) with Ganga Expressway. Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) officials have warned that "any violation could lead to strict administrative action". UPEIDA has finalised the alignment for a 74.3km-long greenfield link expressway that will directly connect NIA in Jewar with the ambitious Ganga Expressway. To curb speculative land deals and keep the project on schedule, UPEIDA has ordered a complete halt on the sale and purchase of notified land along the proposed route. Estimated at Rs 4,000 crore, the link expressway project aims to create a seamless high-speed corridor connecting the Ganga with Yamuna expressways. Rail fare hike for AC & non-AC classes kicks in from today
NEW DELHI: The hike in passenger fares will come into effect Tuesday after the railway ministry notified the revised fares for both AC and non-AC classes. The new fares will not apply for tickets issued at pre-revised rates, meaning passengers who booked tickets before Tuesday won't have to pay any extra charge. While fares have increased by 2 paise per km for passengers travelling in AC classes, the hike for non-AC class is 1 paisa per km. A rough calculation shows that one-way travel in 3AC in Rajdhani trains from Delhi to Mumbai, Kolkata or Patna would get costlier by Rs 20-30, while a non-AC journey in mail and express trains would cost around Rs 10-15 more. There is no hike in fares for trains on the suburban rail network and monthly season tickets for both suburban and non-suburban trains. Similarly, there is no increase in fares for passengers travelling in second class on ordinary (non-mail or express) trains for distances up to 500km. Beyond this, they will have to pay extra half a paisa per km. Passengers of ordinary sleeper class and first class in non-mail or express trains will also have to pay half a paisa more per km from Tuesday. "The fare revision also applies to premier and special train services, such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat and Tejas, and ordinary non-suburban services," the ministry said. As per estimates based on the Budget document, which projects passenger km, railways were likely to earn an additional Rs 1,100-1,200 crore due to the fare hikes in the entire financial year. But since one quarter is already over, the national transporter it may garner additional revenue of Rs 800-900 crore from the passenger segment in this fiscal. The maximum additional revenue, of approximately Rs 534 crore, is expected from AC3 category, followed by Rs 458 crore from second class travel in mail and express trains.
