Austin Stacks in pole position for Kerry Division 1 League title after derby win
Both sides were level at the top on 15 points coming into Sunday afternoon's encounter as Stacks chose to start Kerry panelist Armin Heinrich while Kerins O'Rahillys chose to play Kerry's late scoring substitute against Cavan, Tomas Kennedy, in the second period.
The first of two Paddy Lane two-pointers put Stacks 0-4 to 0-1 ahead after 12 minutes but Strand Road punished them on the break by scoring two goals from Daniel Bowler and Darragh O'Connor, although O'Rahillys would regret missing another two goal chances by full-time.
The visitors' advantage at half-time stood at 2-5 to 0-8 but O'Rahillys failed to score in the third quarter as five unanswered Stacks points put the hosts 0-13 to 2-6 in front.

Stacks had decided to chance some of their U21 contingent like Murphy, who face a Kerry U21 final meeting with St Kierans on Wednesday night. But it had the desired outcome although Ben Hanafin would soon end O'Rahillys' long wait for a score before Padraig Griffin got a third goal in the 52nd minute to put them 3-6 to 0-13 ahead.
It looked like Strand Road might push on to win but Murphy's first point along with Niall Fitzmaurice and Sean Quilter scores gave Stacks the lead again before Conor Hayes levelled the game again at 0-16 to 3-7 on 59 minutes.
Murphy remained composed though and he put Stacks back in front for the final time as four additional minutes saw Strand Road miss two potential levelers while substitute Ronan Carroll was dismissed late on for the hosts.
The result means Stacks only need to avoid defeat to Laune Rangers on the last day to win Division 1, a year after winning Division 2. Kerins O'Rahillys need to defeat already relegated Glenbeigh/Glencar in their last game and hope for a favour from the Killorglin side to force a playoff for the title.
Rangers are in the relegation zone themselves heading into the final day as they lost a relegation 'four-pointer' away to Rathmore, 2-16 to 1-10.
They must better fellow Mid Kerry side Beaufort's result on the final day to stand a chance of staying up as Beaufort had started the weekend with a 1-14 apiece draw away to Glenbeigh/Glencar.
In the last round, Beaufort face a Kilcummin side that are officially safe after a 0-23 to 1-20 draw at home to Glenflesk who are also now assured of another year in Division 1.
Spa gave their hopes of staying up a major boost by defeating Dr Crokes 2-13 to 0-17 meaning they only need to avoid defeat to Glenflesk on the last day to stay up.
Ballymacelligott, meanwhile, became the second side relegated from Division 1 despite putting up a good show in their return to their home pitch against Killarney Legion before going down by 0-22 to 2-14.
The result means their four year stay in the top flight will end in 2026.

Oisin Murphy to ride in €636,000 race day after court appearance
Oisin Murphy is booked to ride in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes on Friday - and is set to jet off to America shortly after appearing in court. The Kerry jockey is to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday on charges of drink driving and failing to take a roadside test after a car crash in April. Murphy was charged by postal requisition on June 19 with one count of driving a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit of alcohol and one count of failing to co-operate with a preliminary test at the roadside by Thames Valley Police. The charge is in connection with a single vehicle road traffic collision at about 12.05am on April 27 when a grey Mercedes A Class left the road and crashed into a tree in Hermitage, West Berkshire, the force said. Murphy has been booked to partner New Century for owners Qatar Racing, who the British champion jockey is retained rider for, in the Grade 1 at Saratoga on Friday. The $750,000 (€636,000) contest is run over 1m1f and has a post time of 10.45pm Irish time. Murphy rode New Century in all seven of his starts when he was trained in the UK by Andrew Balding. He also steered the three-year-old to Grade 1 success in Canada last September when winning the Summer Stakes at Woodbine. New Century has since moved to American trainer Brendan Walsh and finished third on stable debut under Irad Ortiz Jr in the Grade 1 American Turf Stakes back in May. Murphy has ridden more winners than any other jockey in the UK this year and leads the jockeys championship with 55 victories. He rode five winners at Royal Ascot last month. The British Horseracing Authority said in a statement after the announcement of the charges: "The BHA is aware of an update issued by Thames Valley Police this afternoon regarding Mr Oisin Murphy. "We are now seeking to gather as much information as possible in order to consider what, if any, implications there are as a result of this development." Murphy has four rides at Thirsk on Wednesday, but isn't in the saddle on Thursday, the day he is due in court. He will return to England from the States for six rides at Sandown on Saturday, including Almaqam in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse.

Derek Lyng: Kilkenny will need to manage discipline against Tipperary
Derek Lyng says both his Kilkenny team and Tipperary will have to be diligent about their discipline in Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final. In the second half of the counties's Division 1 meeting in March, Kilkenny lost three players and Tipperary one to red cards largely because of a crackdown on head-high fouls. While Lyng was exasperated with the decisions at the time, he later accepted it was an area his team had to work on. 'There was a lot of frustration there,' he admitted. 'I think that common sense approach is important but I also think the responsibility is on the two teams as well. 'It's not an easy job, refereeing, and I know what they've been asked to do but I think since then, we've had to look at our own discipline – and you have to. You can point the finger at everybody else but it's something we've looked at as well. 'At the same time, I do feel sorry for incidents where a collision is unavoidable. It's just the pace of the game. I don't think any players out there go out with the intent to hurt anybody. I just think sometimes that needs to be taken into account. 'It's easy to say that from where I am but I think we'll get a really good game. There's experienced officials there. They have a job to do and we respect how they go about it and we'll just have to manage our own discipline and make sure we come out the right side of that.' Lyng looks back on that game where David Blanchfield, Mikey Carey, Jordan Molloy (second yellow) and Alan Tynan were dismissed in the space of 10 minutes and feels there was an onus on referee Seán Stack to take a sterner approach. 'There were a few incidents that weekend. Unfortunately, there was an added focus to it. When you're looking at the game, in other games they wouldn't have been red cards, it's as simple as that. 'But we have to take into account that's how it's going to be refereed now. Take it on the chin and learn from it. And that's what we've tried to do. That doesn't mean you're not going to get a red card or yellow cards down the road.' Lyng continued: 'I do think all teams have appreciated how it's going to be refereed now and tried to work on keeping the head high contact to a minimum if at all possible.' While forwards Harry Shine (cruciate) and Marty Murphy (hamstring) are unavailable this weekend, Eoin Cody is back to full fitness following his hamstring injury. Cody missed four provincial games. "Eoin is available for selection now again,' Lyng reported. 'He's come through the last few weeks and he's done very well. He's worked hard. Even in the run-up to the Leinster final, he was pushing hard. He was just kind of a week off at that stage and we didn't take the chance with him.' Kilkenny supporters face their second All-Ireland semi-final ticket increase in as many years. While a stand ticket for their 2023 game against Clare cost €50, the same admission is €60 on Sunday after another €5 jump. Lyng believes more ticket incentives are required for supporters as there is a lot of pressure on them. "It definitely does and I think it's been reflected in attendances all year. Families probably have to pick and choose. A lot of people will wait and hope their team gets further in the competition, so I definitely think it could be looked at. We want to get as many young people to these games as possible. We need to make that attractive. 'I'll be honest as well, I'm not sure of the packages for the weekend and things like that, but certainly for provincial and things like that, I thought what happened for the Leinster final (making 20,000 free tickets available for underage teams) was an excellent move from Derek Kent in trying to get more people into the stadium. "I think that was an excellent move to try and promote the game and to get as many people in. I think we need to be looking at that as well."
