Qatar reiterates firm support for Syria's unity, sovereignty

Qatar has reiterated its firm and supportive stances on the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as on the realisation of the aspirations of its fraternal people for a dignified life and the building of a state of institutions and law.
This came as Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani received a high-level Syrian ministerial delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic HE Asaad Hassan Al Shaibani, accompanied by seven ministers, in Doha on Tuesday. The visit comes within the framework of strengthening the solid fraternal relations and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
At the outset of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates conveyed the greetings of President of the Syrian Arab Republic HE Ahmed Al Sharaa to His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his wishes for the State of Qatar, its government, and people, continued progress and prosperity.
The Syrian minister also expressed Syria's deep appreciation for the State of Qatar's initiatives and continuous efforts in support of the reconstruction process in Syria, praising Qatar's firm stances toward supporting the Syrian people.
In turn, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed the greetings of HH the Amir to the president of the Syrian Arab Republic, and His Highness' wishes for continued health and happiness for His Excellency, and for continued progress and prosperity for the government and people of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The meeting discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries, emphasising the depth of fraternal ties that unite them and their mutual commitment to strengthening and developing cooperation in various areas of common interest.
The meeting also discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the energy, economy, trade, finance, tourism, communications, information technology, higher education, development, and other sectors, including:
• Support and supply the Syrian Arab Republic with electricity.
• Settling the Syrian Arab Republic's debt to the World Bank, jointly by the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
• Providing joint financial support from the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the salaries of public sector workers in the Syrian Arab Republic for a period of three months.
The Qatari side reiterated the State of Qatar's firm and supportive stances on the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as on the realization of the aspirations of its fraternal people for a dignified life and the building of a state of institutions and law. It also categorically rejected any attempts to undermine Syria's unity or undermine its national sovereignty.
For its part, the Syrian side affirmed its pride in the State of Qatar's supportive stance towards the Syrian people, praising its supportive role at various stages and reiterating the Syrian Arab Republic's commitment to the principles of respecting the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.

60,000 people in Sri Lanka to benefit from QC's relief and development aid project
Tribune News Network Doha With support from philanthropists in Qatar, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a relief and development aid distribution project in Sri Lanka. The launch event was attended by representatives from the Sri Lankan government, the Embassy of the State of Qatar, civil society, and several other donors. This initiative forms part of QC's broader collaborative efforts to respond to the aftermath of natural disasters, support individuals with special needs, and empower vulnerable families. The project targets approximately 60,000 people from vulnerable and displaced groups, covering 14 product categories, including grain and spice grinding machines, sewing machines, manual and electric wheelchairs, furniture and desks, blood pressure monitors, and other tools that contribute to improving the daily lives of sisterly families and joint development efforts. In his speech, Mahmoud Abu Khalifa, director of QC's office in Sri Lanka, stated that the project aligns with the organisation's vision of ensuring a dignified life for all. He explained that the distribution of aid is not a substitute for long-term support, but rather a strategic step towards economic empowerment and poverty reduction—particularly for vulnerable, displaced, and disaster-affected families. The credit goes to the people of Qatar for their ongoing support of charitable, humanitarian, and development initiatives around the world, including their meaningful collaboration with government and local bodies in Sri Lanka, he said. Speaking on behalf of Munir Muzafer, deputy minister of justice and national integration, he expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity for its significant efforts in supporting the people of Sri Lanka over the past six years. These efforts included addressing the needs of individuals and families in need, as well as providing relief to those affected by floods. He also extended thanks to the State of Qatar and the Qatari Embassy for their vital role in supporting the Sri Lankan people, stressing the urgent need to facilitate continued cooperation and ensure the sustainability of these initiatives. At the launch, Ali Hassan Al-Emadi from the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sri Lanka highlighted his direct contribution to the important work carried out by Qatar Aid, which reflects the civilised and humanitarian values upheld by the State of Qatar in promoting human dignity and civil peace. He also emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between Sri Lankan government agencies and Qatar Aid to ensure the sustainability of various contributions for the benefit of Sri Lankan society. R M Madhushika Kanchanamalisaid: 'I am very grateful for this assistance at a time when I was in dire need of support. Now I want to start a small business that will help ease my children's suffering. My thanks go to the donors and for the drops of gratitude they offer through New Hope. I hope this assistance reaches many more women like me.' It is worth noting that the Qatar Charity office in Sri Lanka, alongside the distribution of these items, is currently implementing several development projects. These include the construction of schools and health centres, the drilling of water wells, the establishment of housing for Qur'an readers, and a variety of social and community development initiatives aligned with Sri Lanka's strategic development goals across various sectors.

Qatari students discuss cultural identity at Arab Parliament for the Child
Tribune News Network Doha A delegation of Qatari students participated in the second session of the fourth session of the Arab Parliament for the Child, hosted by the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates from July 22 to 26, 2025. Fifty-six members representing 14 Arab countries participated in the event, which strengthens the voice of Arab children and refines their leadership skills. The Qatari delegation comprised students Tarf Abdullah Al-Afeefa, Maryam Ali Al-Namlan, and Fahad Abdul Aziz Al-Maliki, along with educational supervisors Amer Al-Naimi and Shaima Kamal. They contributed to rich discussions centered around the 'cultural identity of the Arab child,' as one of the fundamental pillars in building generations and strengthening national and patriotic belonging. The sessions are held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and under the direct supervision of HE Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
