Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart to SV Ried latest revealed
Amakhosi left Maart behind as the squad travelled to the Netherlands for their pre-season camp, following a reported agreement between Chiefs and Ried. Despite the club recently exercising a two-year extension on his contract, the offer from SV Ried proved too good to turn down.
SV Ried, also known as SV Guntamatic Ried for sponsorship purposes, earned promotion to Austria's top flight after a successful 2024/2025 campaign in the second tier. Van Wyk played a crucial role in that campaign and now welcomes another South African talent to the fold.
The club also boasts South African links in the technical department. Moritz Kossmann, a former coach at Ubuntu Academy and Cape Town City's Diski Challenge team, now serves as Ried's assistant coach and chief analyst. Kossmann moved to Europe in 2024 and has played a pivotal role in integrating South African talent into the Austrian system.
SV Ried have already begun their pre-season preparations and are pushing to have Maart available in time for their upcoming friendly. The club hopes to field him in a crucial match against German third-tier outfit Energie Cottbus at the Innviertel Arena on Friday, 18 July.
Ried's Bundesliga journey begins with a daunting fixture against RB Salzburg on Saturday, 2 August. The coaching staff view Maart as a key addition to strengthen their midfield ahead of the season.
'I think this change is quite possible. Ried is looking for a strong player for the centre midfield. Will let you know when I have more information but apparently he left the airport just after 6pm yesterday,' said a source close to the deal.
Yusuf Maart's move marks another significant step for South African players breaking into European football. With familiar faces around him and a new challenge ahead, all eyes will be on Maart as he looks to make his mark in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Can Kaizer Chiefs thrive with their lineup of ex-Orlando Pirates stars?
Can Ndlovu thrive in Chiefs colours? Former Orlando Pirates star Siphesihle Ndlovu was recently unveiled by Kaizer Chiefs as they prepare for the new BVetway Premiership season. Photo: Kaizer Chiefs Image: Kaizer Chiefs Kaizer Chiefs will begin the new PSL season armed with a number of former Orlando Pirates stars in their ranks. The club announced the signing of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane last week, and followed that up this weekend by concluding the deal to bring Siphesihle Ndlovu to Naturena from SuperSport United. While the jury is still out on Mako and Monyane, the signing of Ndlovu appears to be a shrewd bit of business by the Soweto giants. Mako and Monyane were released by Pirates, which led to many fans seeing their move to Chiefs on a free transfer as the club picking up players who were unwanted by their rivals. The pair will have to hit the ground running if they are to prove their doubters wrong. Get your news on the go, click here to join the IOL News WhatsApp channel. Bradley Cross has been Chiefs' first choice at left back, and Mako is expected to provide the 24-year-old, who made his fair share of mistakes last season, with some strong competition for a place in the team. Meanwhile, Monyane should find it a bit tougher to break into the side given that Reeve Frosler is one of the club's most consistent performers. Ndlovu, on the other hand, looks like he will go straight into the first team. The 28-year-old former Maritzburg United star is a tireless workhorse, and his addition to the club's midfield will give the team a more solid look. Last season, while the club were able to create a number of opportunities for their attackers, it was their porous midfield that sometimes let them down. Teams often found it too easy to pick them apart. Ndlovu's signing will address that. His energy and defensive grit will definitely help the club during intense CAF Confederation Cup and league matches. Of course, it also helps that he's versatile and can play in a number of other positions. This means he can slot into different systems without fuss, thanks to his tactical awareness and adaptability. With Chiefs aiming to reclaim their place among the PSL elite, these signings represent more than just squad additions – they signal a shift in intent. In Ndlovu, they have a player who fits the profile of what the club desperately needs: discipline, endurance, and a winning mentality. If Mako and Monyane can silence the doubts and Ndlovu delivers as expected, Kaizer Chiefs may just have found the backbone needed to mount a serious challenge on both domestic and continental fronts. Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates want ex-Mamelodi Sundowns man!
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have both been incredibly busy in the current transfer market making several signings. Chiefs have made six signings at the moment, while Pirates have made nine with others agreed and set for announcements. On the Amakhosi side, they have announced Nkanyiso Shinga, Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett , Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane and Siphesihle Ndlovu. Pirates have confirmed Sipho Mbule, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Tshepo Mashiloane, Sihle Nduli, Tshepang Moremi , Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Yanela Mbuthuma. They also dropped the bomb of Oswin Appollis while they're yet to announce the signing of Malian midfielder Abdoulaye Mariko. It is not expected to be the end of the transfer business for neither of the Soweto Giants, however. According to FARPost , in fact, both Chiefs and Pirates are interested in recently released Mamelodi Sundowns star Lebohang Maboe. 'Other clubs reportedly vying for Maboe's signature include Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Sekhukhune United. Babina Noko had previously expressed interest in the midfielder before his loan move to SuperSport. For Amakhosi, the interest comes amidst significant squad changes, with captain Yusuf Maart's move to Austria reportedly imminent and Edson Castillo already released.' Wrote the publication. The other clubs who will be competing with Chiefs and Pirates Maboe are Durban City and Sekhukhune United. The midfielder formally played for City but while they were still called Maritzburg United. While at Babina Noko, he could find himself joining an ambitious group of players who finished fourth last season. Looking at Maboe's future prospects at Pirates, the picture looks grimmer. The Buccaneers already have so many top midfielder from last season alone. They then went on to add Nduli, Nemtajela, Kwayiba, Mbule and Mariko. So City, Sekhukhune and Chiefs could offer more game time. Pirates and Chiefs fans, would you take Maboe on a free? Or has that ship sailed? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab.
