David Brooks drops major Rangers transfer clue as response to Russell Martin 'career contract' quip leaves little doubt

Brooks played for Martin at Southampton and admitted he's willing to follow Martin wherever he goes in the game
David Brooks left the door wide open for Russell Martin to come back and sign him during their time together at Southampton.
And the Rangers boss may have the chance to step through it with a proposed switch to West Brom seemingly off.

The Bournemouth midfielder - who beat a devastating diagnosis of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2022 to return to playing - worked under Martin at St Mary's after joining the club on loan from the Cherries for six months in January 2024.

Martin was taken with the Wales international, and didn't play it cool whatsoever when asked if he would like to make the move a permanent one.
"If I had the opportunity I'd sign Brooksy to a contract that he has to stay with me until he retires," he said. But that's not an option. There's no option at all at the moment.
"I'm really enjoying working with him as a player and as a person. He's fantastic.
"He's even better than I thought he was and I had a really high opinion of him in the first place."
And Brooks' response suggests that working with Martin again would certainly appeal. He said: "If he wants to, I'm open to it!

"His style of play and the way he is as a guy, I think he's an extremely good manager and he's going to do great things.
"If he wants to take me wherever he ends up, then he can do."
Brooks underwent a medical with West Brom over the weekend, but reports now claim that the deal is off.

Brooks is in the final year of his contract with Bournemouth and is likely to leave this summer. Martin has already raided the south coast club twice this summer to sign Max Aarons and Joe Rothwell.
Now with Brooks available and in need of an alternative to the Hawthorns, he's already admitted he'd need little persuading if Martin was to come calling.

Rangers closing in on fifth summer signing as medical booked for target with two other stars lined up

SunSport understands the Norwegian international is set for a medical ahead of his proposed move to Ibrox. 3 Thelo Aasgaard is set to be announced by the Light Blues Credit: Alamy 3 Russell Martin is wasting no time in the transfer window Credit: Willie Vass The 23-year-old midfielder, one of Russell Martin's top targets, would become the Gers gaffer's fourth summer recruit. Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell and Emmanuel Fernandez have all checked in, along with pre-contract signing Lyall Cameron and now Aasgaard, who only moved from Wigan to Luton in January, looks set to follow as the new Rangers regime ramps up its recruitment drive. The Liverpool-born star shone for Shaun Maloney to earn his mid-winter switch to Kenilworth Road. But the Hatters' plunge into League One will see him move on, with Martin keen to add the Anfield academy graduate to his attacking options. Leicester's Conor Coady remains a target at the back, with £10million Wolves defender Nasser Djiga also on the radar for a loan deal. It's understood talks have already taken place with the ex-Red Star Belgrade man — who has eight caps for Burkina Faso — over a season-long switch from Molineux. Martin is likely to hand debuts to his new arrivals in Sunday's Ibrox friendly against Club Brugge. Scotland defender John Souttar is likely to miss out as he recovers from post-season groin surgery. Gers will then head to a pre-season camp at St George's Park to hone their prep for the Champions League second qualifying round first leg against Panathinaikos on July 22. Coaches Mike Williamson and Sal Bibbo have also now joined Martin's backroom staff as part of the summer shake-up. Ex-Rangers supremo David Murray on the club's new owners and why Gio shouldn't have been sacked Ex-Newcastle centre-half Williamson has had spells as manager of Gateshead, MK Dons and Carlisle. Former Arsenal goalkeeping coach Bibbo takes Allan McGregor's spot after his role in Barry Ferguson's interim regime. Martin said: 'I'm delighted to have Mike and Sal join. 'I played with Mike at Wycombe Wanderers, so we go back a long way, and I know the qualities he can bring. 'He played at the very top level and is an experienced coach, having been a manager himself. 3 'Sal also has a lot of experience and a strong track record of developing goalkeepers. 'After speaking to him it was clear his knowledge and character will be a real asset.' Meanwhile, back-up keeper Kieran Wright, 26, has signed a one-year extension at the club. Wright, who has been at Gers since 2016, spent the second half of last season on loan at Airdrie. He'll work with first-team keepers Jack Butland and Liam Kelly, as well as teen hopeful Mason Munn. The Cesc Fabregas promise that sold Kuhn on Celtic exit as 'several phone calls' sealed Como transfer for German

Kuhn is set to join Como in the latest glowing testament to Celtic's transfer policy Cesc Fabregas reportedly made several phone calls to Nicolas Kuhn to convince him Como was for him – leading to the winger rejecting RB Leipzig today to seal a move to Italy. Kuhn is on the brink of a £17.2m move to Serie A with Celtic set to bank a major profit on a man they paid £3m for a year ago. ‌ He's the latest glowing testament to the Hoops' formidable transfer policy, coming and going within 18 months and leaving behind a tidy eight-figure jackpot. ‌ The German will miss the their friendly with Queen's Park tomorrow night as he turns his attention to getting a move to Italy over the line, and Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg has a bit more on how the transfer came about. It's claimed the winger took 'several phone calls' from Como boss Cesc Fabregas today where they discussed exactly how the wide man would be used. And after Fabregas told him he had plans to make him his primary right-winger, Kuhn is said to have rejected Leipzig in favour of the four-year deal on offer in Northern Italy. The 25-year-old is expected to take the weekend before flying to Europe next week to undergo a medical on Monday or Tuesday. A deal could be announced shortly after with Celtic poised to turn a £14.2m profit on Kuhn within 18 months of signing him. Brendan Rodgers has already moved to sign Benjamin Nygren in a £1.7m deal and he may be viewed as the replacement for Kuhn. But given how short things are in the attacking positions, with Jota expected to be sidelined until the new year, the Kuhn windfall is likely to send Celtic back into the market for another winger. ‌ That's on top of their existing plans to add another striker and midfielder to Rodgers' squad. Interest in longstanding target Michel-Ange Balikwisha, who appears set to leave Antwerp whatever happens this month, could then be intensified once the Kuhn cash is in the bank.
