ED questions Yuvraj Singh, Urvashi Rautela in endorsements of betting apps
As part of the ongoing investigations into promotional links with banned betting platforms, including 1xBet, FairPlay, Parimatch, and Lotus365, the agency questioned former Indian cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, and Yuvraj Singh, along with actors like Sonu Sood and Urvashi Rautela.
Citing an ED official, the report added, "These betting platforms are using surrogate names like 1xbat and 1xbat sporting lines in advertising campaigns. The ads often include QR codes that redirect users to betting sites, blatantly violating Indian law." While notices have been issued to some of the celebrities, others are yet to receive them, the official added.
The report said that these platforms often promote themselves as skill-based gaming platforms but operate on luck-based outcomes, by using rigged algorithms that categorise them as gambling operations according to Indian law.
The report suggests that initial findings show that these endorsements violate several Indian laws, including the Information Technology (IT) Act, the Foreign Exchange Management Act (Fema), the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and the Benami Transactions Act. It further stated that such endorsements also violate the advisories that have been issued by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Earlier in March this year, actors from the Telugu industry, including Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Devarakonda, Manchu Lakshmi, and Nidhi Agarwal, were booked for allegedly promoting betting apps, according to a report by Telangana Today.

Bihar: NIA charge sheets another accused in the PFI case, funds traced to Dubai
Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charge sheeted Md Sajjad Alam of East Champaran, Bihar, in connection with the anti-national activities of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), making him the 18th accused to be arrested and charge sheeted in the case. The NIA filed its supplementary charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Patna, charging Sajjad under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A). Sajjad, an active PFI cadre, was arrested at Delhi's IGI Airport in January this year upon his arrival from Dubai. According to NIA investigations, Sajjad was channelling illegal funds from Dubai to PFI operatives in Bihar through a syndicate operating in Karnataka and Kerala. These funds were allegedly used to further the criminal and unlawful activities of PFI even after the organisation was banned by the Union government. The NIA stated that the broader PFI conspiracy aimed to 'establish' Islamic rule in India by 2047 and involved activities designed to terrorise people and disrupt peace by spreading communal enmity. The case was originally registered on 12 July 2022 at Phulwarisharif Police Station, Patna, against 26 individuals under IPC sections. The NIA took over the probe, invoking the UA(P)A and previously charge sheeting 17 accused. The PFI module was initially busted by the Patna Police and the ATS in 2022 while conducting physical training camps for Muslim youths at Phulwarisharif under the PFI banner. The camps, held at the house of Mohammad Jalaluddin, a retired Jharkhand police sub-inspector, along with Athar Parvez, allegedly aimed at brainwashing youths against India. Athar Parvez's brother, Manzar Alam, was involved in the 2013 Patna Gandhi Maidan serial blast during Narendra Modi's 'Hunkar Rally'. The then Patna SSP, Manavjeet Singh Dhillon, had recommended handing over the case to the NIA, following which the agency began its probe. The NIA has indicated that further investigations in the case are ongoing to uncover deeper financial and operational networks of the banned PFI in Bihar and other states.

Directed by Anurag Singh, "Border 2" stars Sunny Deol, and Varun Dhawan in pivotal roles, along with others. Presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series & JP Dutta's J.P. Films, the drama is expected to be based on the 1999 Kargil War. "Border 2" is likely to be released on January 23, 2026.

Indian-Origin Woman Assaulted By Pedestrian In UK, Dies In Hospital
London: A 56-year-old Indian-origin woman succumbed to a head injury suffered during an assault while out on a street in the eastern England city of Leicester and a 23-year-old male suspect charged with her murder has been remanded in custody. Nila Patel died in hospital from her injuries last week after being attacked as a pedestrian and Leicestershire Police has said a post-mortem examination gave the "provisional cause" of her death as a head injury. Michael Chuwuemeka appeared before Leicester Crown Court sitting at Loughborough on Tuesday charged with her murder and also faces additional charges of dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply Class B or banned drugs, attempted grievous bodily harm relating to a prior incident and assault of an emergency worker following an alleged assault on a police officer after his arrest on June 24. He has been additionally charged with causing actual bodily harm in connection with a separate victim in London earlier. "A post-mortem examination has been conducted and a provisional cause of Nila's death has been given as a head injury," Leicestershire Police said. The force also shared a statement on Tuesday issued by Patel's son Jaidan and daughter Danika in tribute to their "kind-hearted and devoted" mother, who was a "loyal friend, and an incredibly hard worker". "We are heartbroken, but we want the world to know who our mum truly was - a beautiful, vibrant soul who deserved so much more," reads the statement. "Her love was quiet but powerful - shown through warm meals, thoughtful words, and a smile that could light up any room. She always put others before herself, offering comfort without ever asking for anything in return. Even when life was hard, she carried on with strength, dignity and a smile on her face," they said. Jaiden and Danika said she raised them with patience, love, and unwavering support, and that their greatest wish was always to make her proud. Their statement adds: "Mum's life was full of love, and the stories we've heard from those who knew her have reminded us of just how deeply she touched the lives around her. She was truly rich in love and generosity. "We will miss her more than words can ever express. We didn't get the chance to say goodbye, and that pain is something we carry every day.
