Alsharifi represents Bahraini Banking sector on Union of Arab Banks' board
Alsharifi received an official letter from Dr. Wissam H. Fattouh, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Banks, congratulating him on his appointment as a member of the Union's Board of Directors in its eighteenth term. In the message, Dr. Fattouh welcomed Alsharifi as the representative of the Bahraini banking sector and commended his anticipated role in strengthening the Union's efforts to advance Arab cooperation and establish a solid foundation for the Union to fulfil its mission in supporting the development of Arab economies and societies.
In a statement issued on the occasion, Alsharifi underscored his commitment to sharing Bahrain's pioneering experiences in the banking industry, fostering the exchange of best practices, and collaborating with fellow board members to shape forward-looking banking policies that respond to global economic shifts and promote sustainable development across the Arab region.
Alsharifi took part in the 120th ordinary meeting of the Board of Directors of the Union of Arab Banks, during which key leadership positions were elected as part of the Union's eighteenth term. This included the election of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board, the selection of Board members to serve on the Executive Committee, as well as the appointment of the Chair and Vice-Chair of that committee. The meeting also saw the election of members and the Chair of the Audit Committee, and the formation of the Investment Committee tasked with mobilising financial resources, including the election of its Chair and members. In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed to establish the Islamic Banks Committee, and two members were nominated to join the Board of Trustees of the Arab Academy for Administrative, Financial and Banking Sciences.
Alsharifi also participated in the Arab Banking Conference 2025, held in Cairo under the patronage of Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt. Convened under the theme 'Public-Private Partnerships for Financing the Economy,' the conference brought together an esteemed assembly of leaders, policymakers, and key stakeholders from across the Arab financial landscape.
The conference featured awards ceremony recognising the recipient of the 'Arab Investment and Banking Personality' accolade, followed by a series of high-level sessions. The first addressed 'The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Financing Economic Growth,' while the second explored 'The Contribution of Islamic Banking to Financing the Economy and Sustainable Development.' The second day included a session on 'Innovative Financing Mechanisms for Public-Private Partnerships,' a panel on 'The Role of Multilateral Development Banks and International Financial Institutions in Financing PPP Projects,' and concluded with a session examining 'The Regulatory and Policy Framework for Enabling Effective Partnerships.'

Through expert mentorship and networking opportunities, I gained insights that would've taken years to uncover on my own,' she explained. She encouraged fellow businesswomen to apply, saying: 'Even participating opens doors to invaluable learning and growth.' Fatima Al Ansari, owner of Fatima Al Ansari Design Studio, described Imtiaz as a game-changer. 'The award boosted my credibility, expanded my client base, and gave my brand stronger visibility both locally and regionally,' she said. The announcement came during a high-level reception hosted at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters on Tuesday, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The event brought together leading Bahraini and American business figures and marked the unveiling of transformative partnerships in technology, aviation, infrastructure, and industrial investment. Strategic collaborations The reception featured the signing of landmark agreements, including a digital solutions project for Bahrain's government telecoms network with Cisco and the development of a major undersea fibre-optic cable linking Bahrain to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. The cable, stretching 800 kilometres, is being executed in partnership with U.S.-based SubCom. New air connectivity was also unveiled, with plans to launch direct flights between Bahrain and New York. This move is expected to boost business and tourism ties while underscoring Bahrain's ambitions to become a central regional hub for U.S. firms. Aluminium and capital flow In addition to infrastructure deals, Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat announced USD 2 billion in strategic cooperation with U.S. firms focused on aluminium-related downstream industries. Meanwhile, Bahrain-based private and financial institutions are investing USD 10.7 billion in various American ventures, reinforcing a two-way channel of economic cooperation. Bahrain appointed Chair of Arab Space Strategy Committee
The Kingdom of Bahrain was selected to chair the committee responsible for developing the Arab Space Strategic Plan during the 11th meeting of the Arab Space Cooperation Group, held in Egypt. This appointment recognises Bahrain's growing leadership role in the regional space sector, its institutional strength in strategic planning, and its notable success in advancing international cooperation. Rasha Al Amad, Chief of Strategic Planning at the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), has been appointed to chair the committee, which includes representatives from eight Arab space agencies. She will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Arab Space Strategic Plan. The committee aims to coordinate efforts at both national and regional levels to enhance collaboration, positioning the Arab region as a competitive force in the global space sector. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of BSA, welcomed the appointment as recognition of the Agency's strong regional capabilities. He underscored BSA's commitment to close cooperation with Arab space agencies to establish a unified space strategy that promotes innovation, capacity-building, and enhances the region's position in global scientific and technological advancement. He further noted that through this structured and collaborative process, the committee will work on establishing a comprehensive and unified strategy for the Arab space sector. She added that once the strategy is approved, the committee will oversee its implementation, monitor progress using agreed performance indicators, assess results, and issue regular reports on achievements and areas for improvement. This leadership role underscores the BSA's growing expertise in space governance, strategic planning, and international collaboration.
