In what was his 86th and final T20I, the 37-year-old Russell thrilled the hometown crowd one last time, smashing 36 off just 15 balls, laced with four sixes and two fours. Coming in at No. 7, he provided late fireworks and received a standing ovation as he walked off Sabina Park — the ground where his cricketing journey began.

'I didn't want to finish on a losing note,' Russell said after the match. 'As a kid, you dream about playing here. Thanks to all the fans who came out to support me.'
West Indies posted 172/8, built around Brandon King's 51, Russell's fiery farewell, and a late cameo from Gudakesh Motie (18 off 9). But the score proved insufficient against a dominant Australian chase.
Josh Inglis (78* off 42) and Cameron Green (56* off 29) put on a record 131-run stand for the third wicket — Australia's highest ever in T20Is for that position.

West Indies' cause wasn't helped by six dropped catches, which proved costly as the Aussies ran riot.
Before the match, Russell was honoured with a guard of honour by both teams. A two-time T20 World Cup winner (2012, 2016), Russell ends his career as one of West Indies' most iconic white-ball cricketers — a globetrotting T20 star whose explosive batting and electric fielding left a lasting legacy.

NBA Stars Set to Shine (and Sit Out) at EuroBasket 2025 - Luka and Giannis Take Center Stage; Wemby Benched?

While the tournament will feature several NBA stars proudly representing their nations, it will also miss some big names due to injuries and team decisions. From Luka Dončić suiting up for Slovenia to Giannis Antetokounmpo chasing gold with Greece, here's a complete breakdown of who's in, who's out, and what it all means for Europe's top basketball competition. EuroBasket 2025 Headliners: Luka and Giannis Take Center Court Luka Dončić: Slovenia's Driving Force Luka Dončić returns to EuroBasket 2025 not just as a star, but as a national hero. After leading Slovenia to gold in 2017 at just 18 and delivering more dazzling performances in 2022, Dončić now enters the tournament at the peak of his powers. Fresh off another MVP-caliber NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers, he'll serve as the backbone of Slovenia's Group D campaign, which features tough matchups against France and co-hosts Poland. Backed fully by his NBA team—who even sent a coach to help maintain his fitness—Dončić boasts a staggering 19.4 PPG average in EuroBasket play. Expect plenty of step-back threes, jaw-dropping assists, and Luka magic as he aims to add another medal to his collection. Though progressing well, the 7-foot-4 sensation won't take the court this summer, a cautious move endorsed by France's national program. Khalid, Renedy among three men in contention for next India coach

Former India internationals Khalid Jamil and Renedy Singh are two of the three individuals in contention for the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) next senior team head coach. The post has been vacant after Manolo Marquez mutually parted ways with the side earlier this month. The AIFF had received 163 applications for the top job; the number was eventually trimmed to 20—10 Indians and 10 foreigners—by the National team director Subrata Paul. While the list of foreigners included Australian Harry Kewell, former Tajikistan head coach Petar Šegrt, and Englishman Stephen Constantine, the Indian applicants included Sanjoy Sen, Shanmugam Venkatesh, and Shankarlal Chakraborty. On July 23, the list was presented to the members of the Technical Committee, with an option to vote for their top three. There were suggestions from some attendees, including Subrata, to reinstate Constantine—a coach under whom India had bettered its FIFA rankings from 173 to 97 between 2015 and 2018. The argument in favour of the Englishman was to have him on a contract until India's next Asian Cup qualifier—against Singapore on October 9—and then decide on a long-term solution. READ: East Bengal coach Bruzon: Foreigners Figueira, Sibille not available for Durand Cup opener Renedy played 72 times for India between 1998 and 2011 and was part of the team that won the SAFF Championship (2005, 2011), Nehru Cup (2007, 2009), and AFC Challenge Cup (2008). He moved to coaching after retirement in 2015 and is currently the assistant coach of Bengaluru FC. He has formerly been the coach of I-League side NEROCA FC and also served as the interim head coach of East Bengal in the 2021-22 campaign. He had also been the president of the Football Players Association of India for nearly a decade since 2014, before Mehrajuddin Wadoo took over this year. Meanwhile, Jamil, a former Mumbai FC teammate of AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey, has created a reputation for delivering positive results with limited resources. In 2017, he helped Aizawl—a club that earned promotion from the second division a year prior—win the I-League, orchestrating one of the greatest underdog stories in Indian football. Khalid Jamil had been approached for the job of India Under-23 head coach earlier. | Photo Credit: Shibu Preman / Focus Sports / FSDL It is understood that Jamshedpur—Jamil's current employer—has already had discussions with the AIFF. Sources close to the club have indicated that since the Indian Super League is not starting until late this year, JFC feels releasing him for the national team in the October window would barely affect the club's season. Earlier, Jamil was approached for a job as the coach of the under-23 side, one that did not materialise as he was contracted with Jamshedpur until 2026. However, if and when the future of ISL is ascertained, the Men of Steel would look for a potential replacement in Owen Coyle, under whom Jamshedpur won the league title in 2022.

Soccer-Marc Brys denies he has quit as Cameroon coach

By Amindeh Blaise Atabong HT Image YAOUNDE (Reuters) -Marc Brys has denied he has quit as coach of Cameroon despite the country's football federation confirming his exit on Wednesday, as the Belgian said his email was likely hacked and his alleged resignation letter did not come from him. It is the latest twist in a long-running battle between Brys and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) since his appointment by the country's sports ministry in April 2024. A letter dated July 21, supposedly from Brys to the sports ministry and FECAFOOT, said he had made the decision to terminate his contract "due to the non-payment of my remuneration and that of my staff for more than 60 days." When the letter came into the public domain on Wednesday, FECAFOOT said in a statement they had noted the resignation and would "implement a coordinated response to mitigate the impact of this vacancy at the head of the national team's technical staff." However, Brys later said in a letter to the sports ministry that his email had likely been hacked, and that he had not resigned. Cameroon's sports ministry confirmed that Brys remained in his role. FECAFOOT has not responded to the coach's denial. It comes five months before the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco and with Cameroon's qualification for the 2026 World Cup undecided. Brys has had a testy relationship with FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto'o since taking the job last year, but his position is funded by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education. Cameroon have been drawn in a group with defending champions Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mozambique at the December 21-January 18 finals of the AFCON. They are currently second in their qualifying pool for next year's World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, a point behind Cape Verde with four rounds remaining. Only the top team automatically earns their place at the finals, with Cameroon set for a crunch tie away against Cape Verde in September. The qualification campaign will conclude in October.
