Simpsons creator says being 'forbidden' is 'one of best things that happened'
The long-running sitcom boasts a whopping 36 seasons to its name and has been on the air since 1990.
However, from Homer Simpson's lazy approach to his job or Bart causing mischief at school, the series hasn't always been beloved.
Early on in its infancy, the show made headlines as many parents banned their children from watching it.
However, according to its creator Matt Groening, that negativity may actually have helped the show in the long run.
Speaking to Variety , Groening said: 'One of the best things that ever happened in the course of the show was that some people forbade the show.
'It became this exotic, forbidden thing. Bart Simpson Underachiever T-shirts were once controversial and banned in schools. So when we did a Lisa Simpson Overachiever T-shirt, but we got in trouble for that because it said 'Damn I'm Good'.'
Groening went on to add that the show's longevity was helped by its ability to be told through other mediums, such as comics or video games.
The 71–year-old explained: 'It is storytelling. Even merchandise –even a lunch box –we try to tell a little story, include a little joke. We try to avoid what's called in the biz a 'label slap. We actually try to have jokes on everything.'
This comes after the replacement for a long-running Simpsons character was announced last month.
In 1989, Pamela Hayden joined the American animated series, voicing characters including Milhouse Van Houten, Jimbo Jones and Rod Flanders.
But in November 2024, after appearing in more than 700 episodes over 35 years, the 71-year-old revealed she was leaving the show.
'The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons?……not easily,' she shared in a statement.
Six months on, it's now been revealed who will be replacing Hayden as Milhouse, best known for being Bart Simpson's best friend.
Entertainment Weekly has reported he will now be played by singer Kelly Macleod.
The musician has appeared in The Simpsons before — in 2022 she performed the song Two Badges, One Mind in an episode titled Bart the Cool Kid, which also starred The Weeknd and Michael Rapaport.

What is really going on with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson after romance rumours
Speculation has been growing about the potential romantic connection between Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson and the pair put on a show at the UK premiere of the latest Naked Gun movie Pamela Anderson and their cosy-looking appearance turned heads with their cosy-looking appearance at the premiere of their new film. The Hollywood duo are to feature on screen together in the reboot of The Naked Gun. And they got people talking with their actions at the premiere in London on Tuesday. Speculation over their relationship status has been rife in recent months after the Northern Irish star told of his love for his co-star. As they took to the red carpet at the event, they were very hands on with each other. Pamela, 58, was seen giving the 73-year-old star a peck on the cheek as they posed for images. And now a body language expert has revealed their thoughts on whether it is a showmance or a potential romance. Speaking to Mail Online, Judi James claimed: "These red carpet poses are undeniably romantic, flirty, sensual and playful... "But I'd also have to add, in my opinion, "performed" to the end of this list but with no detriment to either of these two popular and talented actors." She continued: "In the photos, we see Pamela with the classic celebrity hand on Liam's chest in a gesture of ownership and their moments of mutual eye contact plus her pucker as she leans up to plant a very tended kiss on her co-star's lips." Judi added that it appeared as thought the former Baywatch star choreographed certain poses, including the cheek kiss. And she labelled Liam as appearing to be the "perfect gent". The expert also said: "'Their 'after behaviour' defines a mutual fondness and respect with signs of friendship and a sense of playfulness. Pamela wipes her lipstick off Liam's cheek, but they couple break quickly to walk off." And Judi concluded that the signals show nothing more than a "warm friendship" with one big tell-tale sign as being how far apart their pelvises are held. It comes after Pamela recently played down any romantic connection, too. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said: "I think I have a friend forever in Liam. And we definitely have a connection that is very sincere, very loving, and he's a good guy." Speaking to The Sun recently, Liam joked that his favourite part of the latest filming was having an "intimacy co-ordinator. "I'd never had one before. But she was in the background. There was no kind of, 'OK! Excuse me!'". The Naked Gun was originally created by Jim Abrahams and brothers David and Jerry Zucker. The plot centres a passionate police detective enduring many comical mishaps. The 2025 instalment is directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins. In the latest offering, Pamela plays a nightclub singer who goes to Police Squad for help after her brother is murdered.

Netflix fans 'can't wait' as Korean thriller set to rival Squid Game gets huge update
The tense Korean Netflix series may well appeal to fans of Squid Game, which recently came to an end. Netflix fans are saying 'about time' and 'finally' as the streaming giant has confirmed production has started for season 2 of one of its biggest Korean dramas. Following the conclusion of Squid Game, which is Netflix's most-watched show of all time, fans of the thriller are urged to check out another popular Korean series. The sci-fi show, which is returning for a second season after first premiering in 2022, has ranked among Netflix 's Top 10 most-watched non-English series of all time. Titled All of Us Are Dead, the thriller series has been billed as a 'catastrophic coming-of-age story in which teens at Hyosan High band together to survive a zombie outbreak'. The official Netflix synopsis reads: 'A high school becomes ground zero for a zombie virus outbreak. Trapped students must fight their way out — or turn into one of the rabid infected.' After season one scored an impressive 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, All of Us Are Dead is making a triumphant comeback. Netflix shared the exciting production update earlier today, posting on X: 'All of Us Are Dead Season 2 is NOW IN PRODUCTION. 'Starring Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, Lomon, Lee Min-jae, Kim Si-eun, Roh Jae-won, and Yoon Ga-i.' Taking to the comments, fans expressed their excitement over the news after what has felt like a long wait. There were plenty of comments like 'FINALLY', 'CAN'T WAIT' and 'ABOUT TIME'. 'WHATTTT ARE YOU KIDDING ME,' one fan enthused, as another chimed in: 'Here we go… It's about time!' 'All of Us are Dead WAITINGGG,' one viewer quipped, as one more wrote: 'Love it. Season 1 was so refreshing. Great story and love the hype that some of these super zombies might bring.' Yet another person remarked: 'Zombie apocalypse incoming! Can't wait to see what happens next. Park Ji-hu and team bringing serious drama this season.' All of Us Are Dead, based on the 2009 webtoon of the same name by Joo Dong-geun, was watched over 474.26 million hours in its first 30 days on Netflix. It also received largely positive reviews from critics, with Caroline Framke of Variety writing: 'Like Squid Game before it, All of Us Are Dead makes the most out of its nightmarish central location to otherworldly, dizzying effect.' Brad Newsome of the Sydney Morning Herald expressed: 'This stunning Korean series shows that it's still possible to make compelling, imaginative, thought-provoking and hugely entertaining zombie splatter more than a decade after The Walking Dead spawned an unending genre glut.' The Daily Beast's Nick Schager wrote: 'This 12-part South Korean Netflix series about zombies invading a high school is gruesome, thrilling, and highly addictive.' However, not everyone was impressed, with IndieWire's Steve Greene writing: 'It's delivered in an oddly-paced season that fights against an intuitive structure as much as these students try to beat back chomps from throngs of kids in uniforms.'

Holland had guided him towards a career in acting through a college production of West Side Story. Ernest revealed: "I was applying to drama schools at the time and she told me which ones to go to.
