How's the fixtures looking, Oggy?

It's been confirmed that Coventry's opening game of the season will be against last season's relegation-strugglers Hull City.
The Tigers just avoided the drop to League One by goal difference last season - but Sky Blues commentator and former goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic believes it's not guaranteed to be an easy start.

"Hull are underachievers, I think, they tend to buy in foreign markets. I thought they would have had a better season last year than what they did," Ogrizovic told BBC Radio CWR.
"New manager, doubtless number of new players as well. It's an unknown quantity.
"But on the face of it, it looks a nice start."
Coventry will not face any team that made the top 14 last season in August however, the following month will see them take a short trip to freshly relegated Leicester City before hosting newly promoted Birmingham City in a West Midlands derby.
They open September by hosting Norwich City, a team who beat them in both fixtures last season.

"Coventry can do themselves a lot of good in August if they start well," Ogrizovic added.
"But then in September, it really hits you because Norwich are always a difficult fixture. We struggle against them for some reason.
"By that time, players are starting to get into the season, they've found their feet. That'll be a truer test of what kind of side we are and what we are going to do that particular year."

Star player says YES to Liverpool transfer

But probably the transfer that is of the highest importance is the centre-back position. With Jarell Quansah expected to imminently complete his move to Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool are left really short in that department. That's why it's important to bring in a replacement for Quansah and it looks like Hughes is already nearing a move for an England international. Advertisement Marc Guehi seems to be the club's first priority and now it seems like the Crystal Palace star has helped Liverpool's cause by saying yes to a potential move to Anfield. According to journalist Nicolo Schira, Guehi has 'given his availability' to join Liverpool and sign a contract until 2030. The report goes onto say that Liverpool are now working on reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace. What that agreement will look like remains to be seen. Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool are looking to agree a £40m deal, which would be an absolute bargain. Guehi has been the star of a really exciting Palace team for some time now. He's their club captain and he is also a regular at international level for England. Advertisement Bringing in a player with that kind of experience to replace Quansah's role in the squad is a huge upgrade. Not to mention, Guehi only turns 25-years-old next month - meaning he is extremely young. And on top of that there's the bonus that ex-Chelsea players always tend to do well at Anfield. From Daniel Sturridge to Mohamed Salah, Guehi might be the next one. He definitely seems keen on the move. Now it's just up to Liverpool to strike an agreement.

Tottenham Hotspur Are Eyeing A Move For This Championship Midfielder: Should Spurs Snap Him Up?

Tottenham Hotspur Are Eyeing A Move For This Championship Midfielder: Should Spurs Snap Him Up? In a recent interview with EFL Analysis, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney. Bailey said, 'So yes, I do expect Hackney will go. The likes of Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Man United, and West Ham have watched him. Advertisement 'You could even see Burnley coming in for him to replace Josh Brownhill. I wouldn't rule that out necessarily. I think there are a host of options for him that will present themselves over the coming weeks. 'Will he be there to start the season? Possibly. But by the end of the window, I think it'll be a different situation.' Hackney's Impressive Form In The Premier League Hackney enjoyed a good run of form at the English club as he produced a series of impressive performances for them in the middle of the park. The English sensation made 44 appearances for Middlesbrough last season, netting five goals and picking up three assists across various competitions. Advertisement The 23-year-old deserves some credit for 1.90 shots per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He kept 30% of his shots on target. Hackney even distributed the ball accurately from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 83.7% in the English second tier (stats via SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND – FEBRUARY 12: Hayden Hackney of Middlesbrough reacts during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sheffield United FC and Middlesbrough FC at Bramall Lane on February 12, 2025 in Sheffield, England. (Photo by) Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Snap Hackney Up? Hackney is an energetic runner with the ball and can create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. He can strike the ball with power from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team in the final third. Advertisement The English sensation is primarily a holding midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if needed. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. We can expect him to bring more quality to Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank's midfield. He has what it takes to compete for a regular starting place at the North London club next season. At 23, the future looks quite promising for Hackney. Therefore, Spurs would be wise to go all out to snap him up in this summer transfer window.

Liverpool Transfer News: Starting pistol FIRED for colossal striker race

Liverpool are after a striker this summer but have had to bide their time. Things appear to have finally kicked off, however. Liverpool want to sign a striker this summer. Arne Slot just couldn't get what he wanted from the position last season, with his two first-choice options, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, struggling with consistency. Advertisement For completely different reasons, mind you. Nunez just isn't reliable whatsoever in front of goal and it's become completely clear that he'll never be that kind of striker. Not at Anfield, anyway. Jota is reliable in front of goal - he's a wonderful finisher - but he just can't stay on the pitch. The Portugal star featured in around one third of Liverpool's Premier League minutes. Luis Diaz was the makeshift centre-forward and while he was solid there, Liverpool don't want to consider him a primary option for the role going into next season. That's where signing someone comes into play. Now, Alexander Isak is the dream. Liverpool have also looked at Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres, and Victor Osimhen... Advertisement But everyone is looking at them. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United want to sign strikers this summer and the above options are reportedly on their shortlists, too. Juventus are another linked with strikers, again complicating matters. Only, none of these clubs have actually completed deals for strikers and that's primarily because prices are so high. No one wants to be the club to blink first and overpay. Price likely only drop when competition for strikers drops and that only happens when some transfers happen. That, however, may actually be happening. Finally. The striker fight starts Sky Sports revealed on Sunday that both Chelsea and Newcastle United have bid for Joao Pedro. Brighton rejected both offers, however. Advertisement It signals the start of it all, with Chelsea on the brink of taking themselves out of the market for strikers if they do sign Pedro. Newcastle, on the other hand, would conceivably open the door to Isak moving on. But wait, there's more! Fabrizio Romano then moved to confirm later this evening that Brighton have now accepted an offer from Chelsea for Pedro. They'll pay more than £50m for the Brazilian and that now changes things. Chelsea are out of the push for Ekitike, who was seen as their most likely signing up top. Liverpool might be the only club still in for the Frenchman, depending on United and Arsenal's moves. There's also no more Pedro for the Reds, even if we didn't see him as a top target this summer (as much as we rate him). Advertisement The effect on Newcastle is notable, too. They've failed to land another target here, having already seen an offer for Anthony Elanga rejected. Do they need more money and PSR space? Because we know one way that can happen - and ultimately, it's the way Liverpool will hope this goes. Let's see how things play out, then. We've been waiting for the starting pistol for the great striker race this summer and here it is.
