Jackie Morales hits three home runs in Notre Dame's upset of Orange Lutheran
Well, the Knights have already arrived after a 9-7 victory over Trinity League champion Orange Lutheran on Thursday in an opening game of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs in which freshman Jackie Morales hit three home runs.

Notre Dame, the Mission League champion, was leading most of the game until Orange Lutheran scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-6 lead. Morales tied the score with a home run in the top of the seventh. Then the Knights scored two more runs on an RBI single from freshman Keira Luderer and an RBI single from junior Ellayne Tellez-Perez.
Orange Lutheran was the Division 1 runner-up last season. For Notre Dame to go on the road and win is quite an accomplishment for coach Justin Siegel and the Knights.
"Big players show up in big situations and Jackie Morales has been a big player for us all season," Siegel said.
Huntington Beach 8, Charter Oak 7: The Oilers hung on for the Division 1 win. Tea Gutierrez and Maleah Humble each had three hits.

Fighting Irish running back will be under the spotlight in 2025. The Athletic has named Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love as the best RB1 prospect for the 2025 season. Love, a draft-eligible underclassman who stands an estimated six-feet tall and weighs an estimated 210 pounds, is author Dane Brugler's clear number one prospect. Brugler says that Love has "instinctive athleticism", though he must get better at pass-catching. Brugler says Love is clearly the best running back in college football and has the talent to be the best playmaker in next year's draft. Here's an example of Brugler's analysis. "It doesn't take a trained eye to spot Love's exceptional talent. A springy athlete, he has the lateral agility to bounce between gaps and the immediate acceleration to burst through holes at full speed. He ties it all together with innate patience and reactionary movements — those traits plus his balance through contact make him a nightmare to tackle." Brugler suggests Notre Dame may have won the national title over Ohio State had Love not been hampered by a knee injury. The Fighting Irish are ready for more cameras in the complex. There will be a second season of "Here Come The Irish", a documentary that provides an inside look at Notre Dame Fighting Irish football. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive back Leonard Moore went on "The Today Show" to discuss the second season of the show. We reviewed season one recently. Freeman joked that "it took some convincing. I said 'there are some things they may have to edit'," while Moore said he took advantage of the chance to discuss his epilepsy. "It's something I remind myself of every time I go out on the field," Moore said. Season two of "Here Come the Irish" doesn't yet have a release date -- it's in production now. Purdue football coach Barry Odom takes shot at Indiana's schedule
Barry Odom is trying to rebuild Purdue football after a disastrous 1-11 season led to the firing of previous coach Ryan Walters. Odom's preparing his team for a nonconference schedule over the first month of the season that includes games against Ball State, Southern Illinois and — gulp — Notre Dame. On 107.5 FM in Indianapolis last week, the coach noted that, while each Big Ten team already plays nine conference games, offering the fans more chances to watch top-flight competition should be the goal. "That is something that sets the standard in college football right now," adding that all conferences should have nine-game schedules. "It's so important to have games that fans are excited about." "I could take the approach of one of the other schools in the state, cancel games and do some of those things, but the schedule is what it is," Odom said. Purdue currently has games scheduled against Wake Forest (2026, '28), Notre Dame (2026, '27, '28), North Carolina (2027), Vanderbilt (2029) and TCU (2030) in upcoming seasons. Indiana's 2025 nonconference slate includes Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Indiana State, all at home. The Hoosiers also recently canceled a home-and-home series with Virginia. At the moment, IU's next power conference-caliber nonconference opponent is Notre Dame in 2030.
