Will schools and colleges stay open during Bharat Bandh on July 9?

India Today08-07-2025
A nationwide protest has been called for July 9, 2025, by leading Central Trade Unions and farmers' organisations in opposition to the government's policies. The strike is expected to impact several key sectors, raising questions amongst students and parents about the status of schools and colleges on that day.The Bharat Bandh is being organised in response to what protestors describe as 'anti-farmer, anti-worker, and pro-corporate' decisions by the government. Their demands include rolling back the privatisation of power distribution companies in Uttar Pradesh, scrapping new labour laws they claim are detrimental to workers, and putting an end to what they see as corporate-favouring reforms.advertisementAn estimated 25 crore individuals, including rural labourers and farmers, are expected to participate in the demonstration. Adding to this, over 27 lakh employees from the power sector are reportedly joining the strike to oppose the privatisation of two major electricity distribution companies in Uttar Pradesh.
As the protest may affect essential services such as electricity, transport, and banking, many families are wondering if educational institutions will remain functional.ARE SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES CLOSED ON JULY 9?Despite the scale of the protest, there is no official announcement directing schools or colleges to close on July 9. Most educational institutions are expected to operate as usual. However, with potential transport disruptions, students, parents, and teachers are advised to make travel arrangements accordingly.Should there be any last-minute directives or closures announced by local authorities or education departments, updates will be provided promptly. Students are encouraged to stay in touch with their respective schools or colleges for the latest information.- EndsMust Watch

Different PM, different BJP: On Pahalgam, Congress compares Modi with Vajpayee

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, drawing a sharp contrast with the BJP's conduct during the Kargil War under former PM Atal Bihari to Vajpayee's decision to set up a four-member Kargil Review Committee after the 1999 war, Ramesh said that it was a different Prime Minister and a different bears recall that on July 30, 1999, three days after the India-Pakistan war ended, the Vajpayee Govt set up a four-member Kargil Review Committee. This was chaired by K. Subrahmanyam, whose son is now India's External Affairs Minister. The Committee submitted its report 'From Suprise to Reckoning' on Dec 15, 1999. It was tabled in Parliament with suitable redactions on Feb 23, 2000. It was also discussed. But that was a different PM, a different BJP as ruling party, and a different political climate," the Congress general secretary, in-charge, communications, wrote in a post on X. Jairam Ramesh's remarks came a day ahead of the special discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, scheduled for Monday, and in the Rajya Sabha the following in his post, the Congress MP pointed out that the perpetrators of the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22 have not been brought to justice yet."The Pahalgam terror attacks took place on April 22, 2025. The terrorists directly responsible have still not been brought to justice. Reportedly they were involved in earlier terror attacks in Poonch (Dec 2023) and Gangagir and Gulmarg (Oct 2024)," he also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not chairing the all-party meeting in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, questioning the government's seriousness in building consensus during a national crisis."At the request of the INC, an all-party meeting was held and chaired – not by the PM as demanded but by the Raksha Mantri – on April 22, 2025 where questions on intelligence lapses were raised," the Congress leader even targeted the Modi government over President Donald Trump's claim of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, questioning how the Pakistan Army chief was then hosted for lunch."Since May 10th, President Trump has claimed 26 times that he stopped Op Sindoor by threatening to cut off trade with India, and claimed that five fighter jets may have been shot down. He has hosted the Pakistan Army Chief for lunch which has never been done before. The US Central Command Chief, Gen. Michael Kurilla, had called Pakistan a phenomenal partner in counter-terrorism operations. And just day before yesterday, the US Secretary lauded Pakistan in his meeting with its Deputy PM," the senior leader added.- EndsTune InMust Watch
