Korea Donates Equipment to Support Parenting Education in Sidi Taibi

Morocco World09-05-2025
Rabat – The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in partnership with the Association for the Promotion of Moroccan-Korean Cooperation (AMACO), today donated 315 items of sports and office equipment to the Al Wafaa Association for Social and Cultural Development in Sidi Taibi, Kenitra.
The handover ceremony took place today at the Sidi Taibi commune headquarters. Hyewon Cho, KOICA's Resident Representative in Morocco, joined Mohamed Moussa, President of AMACO, and Yassin Hafid, President of Al Wafaa Association, to sign the official donation certificate.
The package included tablet chairs, a desk, a printer, sports vests, footballs, basketballs, and other materials specifically selected to furnish a newly established training center for Positive Parenting Education and to support youth development programs.
Speaking at the event, Cho said that KOICA is committed to its belief that sport and education are fundamental drivers of personal growth and social cohesion. He added that with this donation, the agency aims to enrich extracurricular activities and empower both children and their families with the tools they need to cultivate their physical, social, and mental capacities.
After the ceremony, 'children laced up their shoes and poured onto the field, kicking off their first football match with the new donated equipment, showing contagious excitement and renewed energy,' said KOICA in a press release.
This development comes as bilateral relations between Morocco and Korea continue to strengthen across diplomatic and economic fronts. Seoul today took a pro-Morocco stance regarding the Western Sahara issue and acknowledged the country's Autonomy Plan presented to the UN Secretary-General in April 2007.
'Korea takes note of the Moroccan autonomy proposal presented in April 2007 to the Secretary-General of the UN and welcomes serious and credible Moroccan efforts to move the process forward towards a resolution of this issue,' the statement declared.
This diplomatic endorsement marks a significant milestone in the growing political affinity between the two countries, which have been keen on strengthening cooperation in various sectors.
Korea's flagship rolling-stock manufacturer Hyundai Rotem recently announce a landmark agreement with Morocco's National Railway Office (ONCF). The MAD 15 billion (approximately USD 1.5 billion) contract, the largest ever awarded to the company, will supply double-deck train sets capable of speeds up to 160 km/h.
These new trains are set to link Casablanca with key urban centers across Morocco, modernizing the rail network in time for the country's co-hosting of the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

Rabat Erupts in Protest Against Gaza Blockade, IOF Crimes

Thousands of voices rose this Sunday in the streets of Rabat, where a massive demonstration took place to express solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and to denounce Israel's genocide campaign. From Bab El Had to the Moroccan Parliament, the crowd marched with flags, chants, and the tragic message that Gaza's genocide is only getting worse, and silence is no longer an option. For more than 21 months, Gaza has endured relentless Israeli massacres marked by daily deaths, hunger, and an unyielding violence. Israel has carried out a military campaign in Gaza involving mass killings, starvation, destruction of infrastructure and forced expulsions since October 7, 2023. In Morocco, the protest was organized by the 'Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Israeli Ties,' a national coalition bringing together political parties, trade unions, human rights organizations, and prominent public figures. The movement mobilized a wide range of participants, men and women, young and old, united in their refusal to accept the ongoing Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) massacres. Palestinian flags waved over the crowd, while chants echoed through the capital: 'With our souls and our blood, we sacrifice for you, Palestine' and 'Morocco and Palestine, one people, not two.' The march also carried a tone of defiance. Protesters called out Western and Arab governments alike, accusing them of ignoring or enabling the suffering of the Palestinians. Placards and slogans rejected any form of political or economic connection with Tel Aviv, denouncing those links as a betrayal of justice and of Morocco's historical support for the Palestinian cause. On the same day, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) renewed its urgent funding appeals, warning that Israel is deliberately starving civilians. More than a million children are now caught in this humanitarian catastrophe, as the blockade continues to restrict life-saving aid from reaching Gaza. Starvation has become yet another weapon in Israel's arsenal of oppression. Beyond bullets, airstrikes, and surveillance drones, Israel now relies on deliberate hunger as a means of forcing Palestinians to yield. This systematic deprivation of food and aid is part of a wider plan to uproot Palestinians and impose a new reality on historic Palestinian lands. Tags: GazagenocideIOF massacresMorocco Gaza

Stellantis to Produce Fiat Giga Panda, Panda Fastback at Morocco's Kenitra Plant

Stellantis' Kenitra plant will produce two new Fiat models, including the Giga Panda and Panda Fastback, starting in 2026. Automotive-focused news outlet said that the company's strategy is clear, noting that the two models 'represent more than just a model.' 'Its official debut is expected in the coming months, with production set to begin in February 2026,' the report said, recalling Morocco's assets as a new industrial hub promising to 'reshape the game for the automotive group and, more broadly, the entire sector.' Earlier this week, Moroccan officials and Stellantis celebrated the expansion of the Stellantis plant in Kenitra. The €1.2 billion investment includes €702 million dedicated to developing local suppliers. With the expansion, the company aims to double its production capacity, raising the local integration rate to 75% by 2030. The expansion also aims to create 3,100 direct jobs, reinforcing Morocco's position as a key player in the automotive sector. Morocco's automotive production stands at 700,000 vehicles, and by the end of the year, the North African country is expected to produce one million vehicles. The approach also seeks to enhance electric vehicle production capacity by 53%. Morocco's goal is to increase the production of electric vehicles to 107,000 electric vehicles by the end of this year. The automotive sector is Morocco's first exporting industry, which created at least 116,000 jobs between 2014 and 2018. Morocco is also the first automotive manufacturer in Africa. Official: AS Roma Sign Neil El Aynaoui From Lens

AS Roma have completed the signing of Moroccan midfielder Neil El Aynaoui from RC Lens for €25m, including bonuses. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 24-year-old arrived in Rome on Saturday to finalize the move and will sign a five-year contract. It is Roma's first major signing of the summer window. El Aynaoui joined Lens from Nancy in 2023 for €600,000. The French club now make a significant profit, while Nancy will receive €2.3m due to a 10% sell-on clause. He scored eight goals in 25 Ligue 1 appearances last season. Roma moved quickly after the player agreed personal terms a week ago. Lens lowered their asking price during final negotiations. El Aynaoui, who holds dual French-Moroccan nationality, is the son of former professional tennis player Younes El Aynaoui. He will be available for selection immediately after completing his medical. Roma is also preparing to welcome another new face in this summer transfer window. Following the arrival of Neil El Aynaoui, it's Brighton striker Evan Ferguson's turn to begin his new adventure with the Giallorossi. The 2004-born player will land at Ciampino Airport today. Roma and Brighton have finalised an agreement on a loan with an option to buy for €40 million. He'll be Roma's first Irish player in history – handpicked to round off Gasperini's new-look attacking front. Tags: El AynaouiRomaSeria A
