Scattering grass seed is the only way you can boost growth in sparse patches of lawn.
However, this solution often faces a significant problem when it comes to wildlife.
Birds often feed on grass seeds, swooping into your garden to peck them from your lawn.
But don't worry, a simple trick can protect your grass seed while you wait for growth.
DIY hack
TikTok user Paynton Anderson (@payntonanderson) shared the hack with his followers.
In the videp, the patches in his dried and dying lawn were clear;y visible.
Before he began recording, the lawn expert spread grass seed across his lawn.
Paynton began scattering grass clippings across the areas where he had placed the seeds.
"Cover your grass seeds with grass cuttings to protect them from the birds," he explained.
The TikToker revealed an additional benefit to this DIY gardening trick.
'I was quoted £10,000 for a garden renovation but did it MYSELF for £1,000 using ChatGPT to show my kids what single mums can do'
"Grass cuttings hold a lot of water so [they] will make it grow faster, proper green fingers," Paynton said.
Benefits of grass cuttings
In terms of protecting your grass seed from being eaten, this hack proves to be effective.
Since birds rely heavily on their eyesight when sourcing food, simply shielding your grass seed should be enough to save it.
Meanwhile, leaving the clippings has also been proven to help boost grass growth.
This process is referred to as "grasscycling" and helps provide a natural fertiliser for your lawn, releasing nutrients back into the soil.
How to stop yellow patches on your lawn
STEVEN Bell, Managing Director of Paving Shopper, shared his insights on the true causes of lawn discoloration and how to maintain a lush, green lawn…
1) Sharpen mower blades
2) Prevent fungal disease with nitrogen fertiliser
3) Mow frequently
4) Aerate lawn with a fork

Girl, 19, struck by lightning inside her home after making terrifyingly common mistake

An Alabama woman has revealed the terrifying moment she was struck by lightning while scrolling TikTok in bed. Lisa Henderson, 19, was curled up at her home in Russellville on a rainy Sunday afternoon, enjoying a cozy moment with her fiancé when disaster struck. 'As I was watching a video, that's when something struck,' she told Times Daily. 'After that I heard a loud pop. After the loud pop all I heard was ringing in my ears.' A lightning bolt had surged through her bedroom outlet, traveling up an extension cord and into her phone charger, zapping her through the device. Her hands went numb and painful as the electric current shot up her right arm and into her shoulder. 'She was bawling her eyes off,' her fiancé, Conner Welborn, said. 'She had thrown the phone on the bed.' Panicked, he rushed her to the front of the house while calling 911 and yelling for help from relatives. Henderson meanwhile, was dazed and confused. Although astonishingly, it was not the first time she has been struck by lightning. 'I don't remember walking from the back to the front of the house,' she said. 'I just remember standing by the door, while I was still crying and the lightning striking. 'I was still terrified of it. I was sitting there just looking around and hearing the ambulance. All I know is I was in pain. It hurt, and I didn't know what was going on.' Paramedics arrived and started asking her questions, but Henderson couldn't remember the basics, like her age or what month it was. 'They asked me my birthday, and it took me a minute,' she said. 'I was having trouble processing. I could understand people but was having trouble communicating with them.' At the time, her blood pressure had spiked dangerously high, hovering between 160 and 170, according to Welborn. Though she's now recovering, Henderon says the pain in her right shoulder still lingers. 'Luckily, I tossed my phone out of my hand, because it could have been worse than it was,' she said. 'You know how it feels when you're brushing with an electric toothbrush, that kind of vibration that is in your hand? It was kind of like that but stinging. The back part of my shoulder blade hurt worse than the rest of me.' Her pinky finger, which had been resting on the charger, also took a hit - but has since healed. She also said she's lucky to be alive and credits her survival to God. 'I think he was protecting me because if not I would probably have been electrocuted,' she said. 'He gave me enough strength to at least throw my phone away from me.' Although the common understanding is that lightning doesn't strike the same spot twice, Henderson is living proof it does. She explained the first time she was struck was when she was a child. 'I was just outside,' she recalled. 'I wanted to play. That's all I know. I was taken to the hospital. I remember they gave me a popsicle.' She spent two days hospitalized before making a full recovery. According to the National Weather Service, the odds of being struck by lightning in the U.S. are around 1 in 15,300, meaning Henderson has defied the odds twice. She now jokes about her seeming bad luck. 'In a situation like that I find it funny because I tend to have bad luck,' she said. 'I fell through my apartment floor before. I fell onto this woman's couch. She looked at me. I looked at her. She led me out of the apartment.' After Sunday's incident, she texted friends and family with a tongue-in-cheek message: 'Hey, if you want to know how my day went, it was a shocking experience.'

Expert shares 35p white vinegar hack that cleans patios

While you might reach for the jet washer when your patio becomes discoloured, it's not an essential tool for the job, according to experts. In fact, a simple kitchen cupboard ingredient will do the trick just as well – let's take a look. Have you tried this jetwasher alternative? (Image: Getty) Lucy Steele, a paint expert at Valspar Paint, suggested cleaning your patio with white vinegar – a cheap alternative to jet washing. White vinegar will clean a patio and remove any stains, but that's not all, as it can kill weeds in between paving stones too. A 568ml bottle of distilled vinegar (sometimes used instead of white vinegar) costs 35p at Tesco and Aldi. To use this hack, you'll need to mix together white vinegar and water at a 50:50 ratio, then apply it to your patio and leave for around 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, scrub the patio with a hard brush and wash it down with clean water. If you've got tougher stains on your patio, you'll need to repeat this method. Retailer B&M said: 'Although multipurpose cleaning products are certainly convenient because they can be used on a range of surfaces, many of them aren't good for our health or the environment. 'White wine vinegar, on the other hand, is a powerhouse of an ingredient when it comes to natural and eco-friendly cleaning. Vinegar is also made of acetic acid, which is a natural disinfectant for killing some of the most common germs like salmonella and E. coli. The bargain retailer shared some items around the house that can be cleaned with white vinegar including washing machines, coffee makers, blenders and food processors, windows, cloudy wine glasses and more. Esparto local Bryan Sandoval told the Sacramento Bee: 'All we felt was everything shake.' He and his family evacuated immediately as smoke and fireworks lit up the sky. Footage from the scene shows white smoke billowing from the roof of the warehouse before it is engulfed by a fireball in a violent explosion. Fireworks burst midair above the wreckage, crackling and exploding as if part of a chaotic, unplanned display. A massive column of smoke soared up to 15,000 feet, visible for miles around. Videos also captured the terrifying sight of rogue fireworks firing in every direction, igniting spot fires in dry grass and fields around the warehouse. The flames quickly spread across an estimated 80 acres of surrounding land, threatening nearby highways and farmland. Several commercial buildings on the property were completely consumed by fire, according to Esparto Fire Protection District Chief Curtis Lawrence. Fire crews responded to the incident shortly before 6pm and "a few commercial buildings well-involved, as well as numerous explosions and numerous spot fires throughout the area," Lawrence said.
