Nagaland Cabinet to discuss Centre's directive on creation of frontier territory: Minister
The development follows the third Tripartite High-Level Committee meeting held on July 23 in New Delhi, attended by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Nagaland government, and representatives of the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO), which has been demanding separate statehood since 2010.
'We have a cabinet meeting tomorrow, and we will discuss the matter there. We shall also discuss with the ENPO leaders tomorrow,' Mr. Patton told reporters here on the sidelines of an official programme.
During the New Delhi meeting, several contentious issues were reportedly resolved, barring a few pending ones from the Nagaland government side, ENPO had said in a statement on July 25.
The Centre subsequently directed the state government to resolve the pending issues within a fortnight, it said.
ENPO, the apex organisation representing eight tribes across six districts – Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak, and Shamator – has been demanding separate statehood since 2010, citing 'decades of neglect in governance and development'.
In April, the organisation had announced a temporary suspension of its statehood demand and agreed to the Centre's proposal for a certain degree of autonomy under the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) framework.

Kolkata man found dead, family says he ended life fearing NRC deportation
The family of a 63-year-old man who was found dead in his Kolkata residence Sunday alleged that he died by suicide since he was living in fear of being deported to Bangladesh under the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), police said. A suicide note purportedly written by the victim, Dilip Kumar Saha, an Indian citizen, was found from the spot, police said. Saha, who reportedly moved to Kolkata from Nawabganj in Dhaka in 1972, was found hanging in his room in the Anandapally West area of Regent Park. Police said Saha's wife Arati Saha, and another relative broke into the room after he did not respond to their repeated calls. He was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Arati claimed that her husband was under mental stress as he feared being sent to a detention camp and eventually deported to Bangladesh even as he possessed valid voter ID and other documents. Saha worked as a non-teaching staffer at a private school in Dhakuria in south Kolkata. The matter is under investigation, police said. Meanwhile, local TMC MLA and Power Minister Arup Biswas, who visited the family, said, 'This is what the fear of being thrown out of the country could do to a man. What they (Centre) have started in the name of the SIR shows their anti-people attitude, and the result is in front of you.' Later in the day, the TMC held a press meet, with party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh holding the BJP-led Centre responsible for Saha's death. Ghosh accused the Centre of creating 'an atmosphere of terror' that is causing 'valid Indians' to fear for their lives, especially those who may struggle to produce their parents' documents. Education Minister Bratya Basu also condemned the incident, calling the BJP's 'insulting and harassing' notices to Hindu Bengalis regarding the NRC. Will oppose Banakacherla, protect T's river water rights: Uttam
1 2 Hyderabad: Irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday asserted that the Congress govt will oppose Andhra Pradesh's Banakacherla project at every level. He termed the project, being taken up by AP, as a violation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and the 1980 Godavari River Water Agreement. Speaking at various programmes in Peddapalli district along with ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, D Sridhar Babu, Tummala Nageswara Rao, and Adluri Laxman Kumar, Uttam said the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB), and the Polavaram Project Authority rejected permissions for Banakacherla based on Telangana's objections. The Centre also withheld environmental clearances in response to the state's representations. Referring to the recent meeting of chief ministers of Telangana and AP with the Union jal shakti minister in New Delhi, Uttam said Telangana firmly placed its objections against the Banakacherla project. 63-Year-Old Man Dies By Suicide, 'Feared Being Deported To Bangladesh'
Kolkata: A 63-year-old man was found hanging in his residence in Kolkata on Sunday morning, with his family claiming that he had been living in fear that he would be sent to Bangladesh if the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was implemented. Initial probe revealed that the man, Dilip Kumar Saha, had arrived in Kolkata in 1972 from Nawabganj in Dhaka and had been living in Anandapally West in the Regent Park area, a police officer said. Saha worked as a non-teaching staff member at a private school in Dhakuria in south Kolkata. "This morning, his wife called him several times, but received no response from inside his locked room. She then called their niece-in-law from a neighbouring house. They broke open the door to find him hanging from the ceiling fan," the officer said. The man's wife Arati Saha said her husband had been worried that he would be deported to Bangladesh after implementation of the NRC. "He has been under severe stress for quite some time regarding this. There was no other tension. He came to Kolkata in his childhood. He was afraid that he would be sent to a detention camp and then pushed back to Bangladesh, where he had nobody. He had valid voter ID card and other documents," she said. It is suspected that this fear led him to take his own life, the police officer said, adding that a suicide note has been recovered from the room. The matter is being investigated, the officer said. Power Minister and local Trinamool Congress MLA Arup Biswas reached the place and spoke to the family members. "This is what the fear of being thrown out of the country could do to a man. What they (Centre) have started in the name of the SIR shows their anti-people attitude, and the result is in front of you," Biswas said.
